Joey Margolian the literal black and white one I watched when it was on TV at 1am, I believe it's Pakistani or something in that area? I vaguely remember it, didn't understand it what with it being an accent I wasn't familiar with, especially at 1am XD I recognise the claymation one with the guy as well, I wish I knew the others' titles so I could look them up.

Hand-Drawn anination is dead in theaters for a reason, and independent films is where it is best handled since 1999. If you like hand-drawn animation, support those movies.

Maybe because it's now getting the acclaim it deserves? For example, other underrated movies he considers in this list is Hunchback, which can still considered by many to be too dumbed down compared to the novel as a result of Disneyfication. Anastasia (at least from my point of view) can be seen as underrated because people like me feel the magical elements are unecessary and tacked on to make it feel like a Disney movie, or Rescuers Down Under is in debate with the fans of the first movie. When Treasure Planet is considered bad is because of nitpicks, like the annoying side characters or the science fiction setting, not because it has faults that make it devisive.
Treasure Planet for the win though

@@orangeslash1667 I honesly would have liked it to be just the romance adventure movie with the conflict at the end not forcefully solved with a magical battle, but by understandable characther dynamics paving the road. I really feel everything regarding Rasputin is brought on just to appeal to the kids, and the movie would have been fine to me without it (the train sequence, for example can be reimagined as a robber attack with explosives in the wagons instead of the villain doing his schemes)
I don't need it to be historically accurate

secret of the kells and song of the sea are some of my fav films. I come from an irish/ french canadian heritage with my great granny from nova scotia and my grandfathers grandfather coming from ireland. My family takes a lot of pride in our irish heritage. It was a joy to see them, no matter how many times I watch it, song of the seas ending chokes me up.
the art style reminded me of samurai jack at first, then i started to se a lot of celtic aspects such as celtic illumination, and the celtic knot art design.
there is a good amount of social commentary, like with the secret of kells shifting from pagan beliefs to catholic ones.
and song of the sea showing a family who is a blend of fairies and humans. And doing commentary on bottling up ones emotions and how cold you get when doing so. Both being represented by the grandmother and her pill bottles all over her house. And the owl lady and her literally bottling her emotions, and the emotion of others.
All set on the backdrop of Halloween, which as a pagen holiday was about spirits, fairies and other fayfolk walking the earth before returning to their realm.

As an Italian I thank you ElectricDragon505 for the first spot on the list, in the past Italy's reputation was tainted by Mondo TV and their god awful Titanic's Movies but in recent years we got better, we started to show at Cinema animated movies like Red Turltle, Ma vie de Courgette, Song of the Sea, Your Name and many other less popular movies from all around the world (this kind of thing was unthinkable back in the 90s), not only that but by the skills and patience of Alessandro Rak we finally created 2 other little masterpieces of italian animations: "L'arte della felicità" (2013) and "Gatta Cenerentola"(2017), the road for give animations the right respect in Italy is still long but currently we are on the right foot and who knows, in the future things can be become even better.

Have you heard the Italian animation studio, Rainbow S.r.l. the studio behind Winx Club, Huntik, Monster Allergy, Regal Academy, 44 Cats, etc. By a guy, Iginio Straffi. I describe Rainbow as the "european content creator"

@@Oscar95451What about the Nickelodeon revival, it killed off whatever reputation Winx Club had with its disregard for continuity, stunt casting with Nickelodeon stars, Stella’s fashion humor, watered down spells, and the desparate need to follow the increasingly young age demographic. The list just goes on. Even Straffi stating that it was necessary for the show to continue feels like salt to an open wound.

    3. Loving Vincent (I adored nearly every second of it.100%deserved those nominations.)

Tarlo When I first saw footage of Felidae it terrified me but after
watching it in full Felidae actually strongly reminded me of a more
mature rated version of a cat book a grew up with 'Varjack Paw',
(That book too had cats being mysteriously murdered, with a
protagonist that had strange dreams, and an chilling revalation
when you discover what's been happening to the cats.)
and with each viewing the film grew on me more and more.

    • @YamiSpyroX
      @YamiSpyroX 6 лет назад

Alex F I love WatershipDown but I don't think it's that underrated of
a film. I personlly think the late 90's/early 2000's Watership Down
animated series is much much more underrated.
Sure the animation wasn't as beautiful and it subverted from the
source material(Especially in Season 3) but it handled world building,
character development, and 'believe it or not' had more mature themes,
      than the movie did.
Watership Down was amazing but the series was even more
      amazing!
Hopefully the upcoming Netflix Mini-Series will be comparatively good.

That includes there newest film Bread winner (not to be confused with TV shows of the same name) Such a great movie and no one I know has seen it other than the people I watched it with.

I definitely agree with your honorable mention. But for me I think Studio Ghibli is the most highly underrated movie company of all time. We have Spirited Away, Ponyo, Howl's moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, The Wind Rises and so many others. What makes these movies perfect in my opinion is that they always take me on a journey into new worlds in their movies. That's the main reason Spirited Away won an Oscar. But yes people need to forget the mainstream movies and take a journey with the independent ones.

Definitely glad TINTIN made the list! Honestly my favorite Spielberg movie since 2000 (and easily the best Motion Capture Film ever done; Spielberg used every great technique in animation while perfecting the actors' performances). Apparently, Henge' LOVED Raiders of the Lost Ark and thought Spielberg would be perfecting in adapting TINTIN for the screen. Sadly, he died before he and Spielberg ever met to discuss the comics and Spielberg was always hesitant that TINTIN would feel more carbon copies of INDIANA JONES. But Jackson was also a fan of the comics, so when he ended up getting the rights to the comics after his LORD OF THE RINGS success, he met up with Spielberg in using Motion-Capture, and THAT is what got Spielberg onboard..........and he made AN AWESOME FILM!!

Their are some Disney animated films that are underrated to me like:
    1. Hercules (not accurate to greek mythology and doesn't have a focus but it still so much fun) "I CAN Go THE Distance!"
    2. Atlantis: The Lost Empire (I know people hate the villain and the motivation and has a vague target audience that's hard to please but it's just stunning to watch and listen to in most areas)
    3. Sword in the Stone (it might not feel like a film but it has some entertaining scenes that are worth taking away from it)

I just watched Allegro non Troppo last night and enjoyed it. Thanks for recommending it, AniMat. It was really cool. I think my favorite segment would have to be the one with the marching monsters. That one is just sooo well done and fun to watch. Not to mention it feels very reminiscent to the Rite of Spring segment in Fantasia.
The cat one is good as well even though it's also pretty depressing. 😿

I only recall Tin Tin in cartoon form airing briefly in the US as a kid. The comics were around too but weren't akin to nor drawn like DC or Marvel so they get largely overlooked. Also doesn't help "Rin Tin Tin" is another series here and slightly older American (and young ones) get the two easily confused as both feature dogs.

Cheese Prime actually, the Lorax and hotel Transylvania films can be quite the exceptions, while the others can barely be exceptions like boss baby, and probably the further ice age sequels and Sherlock gnomes (although I did like all those films I mentioned). In other words, ignoring about the senseless norm of the north film (a film I never seen, but I see it is not worthy unlike other guilty pleasures), the only popular cult thing that the emoji movie can get from itself is the animation from the characters (along their designed aspects), since they are supposedly useful for the emoji expressions from the typical devices and in the end not giving a care to the bad reputation movie, I think

    4. As soon as this film started, I was immediately hooked. I think everybody's already described how fantastic this film, and I agree with them 100%.
    3. I actually remember first seeing this one back in my third grade class, and I last saw it on RUclips some odd years ago. I ought to rewatch it at some point.
    2. I used to own a little book based on Tintin (not a comic, more of a 'moving-objects-on-the-page' kind of book) and watched the cartoon from time to time. Seeing this film adaptation was a real delight and my family and I got to rewatch the cartoon sometime afterward, also enjoyable.
    1. "Allegro non Troppo" looks very fascinating. I'm putting it on my must-watch list right now!

  • @skaiiravenom

i totally agree with everything! i love the movies you put in this positions! expecially for Tintin and Nym, my favourite ones.
but i also loved that you mentioned the hindi animated movies, gosh they're pure poetry ad almost nobody wacth them!
i'm an animation lover and animation student and as like you i'm always at "hunting" for movies i never saw before.
I have a large library of films from all over the world and from every age, and I never get tired of looking for new ones.
how I wish the amateur films had more visibility... 🙄
and remaining in the argument, I wanted to thank you for putting Allegro Non Troppo in your top.
as an Italian, I can confirm that Italian animation has low popularity; exept for Bozzetto.
(or Rainbow animation studios, mother of the "Winx" brand)..
and it's sad because there are a lot of wonderful movies as this one, in italy.
for example, almost nobody (foreigners and Italians included) knows about "Mad Entertainment",
the animation studios of Naples, who created movies like L'Arte della Felicità or Gatta Cenerentola.
they are real "small" masterpieces, the films that produces this company, and if you wanted to recover them,
I recommend them to you a lot! 😊
(hoping they have doubled them in English, or at least subtitled to expand the business 😂
otherwise we have another problem to add in the list... hahaha)
    love you!

That rant about hand-drawn animation is so true. It never left. It just isn’t in the main stream anymore.

It drew me in from the beginning even with no experience with the franchise. Now I am reading the Tintin comics and loving them. I really hope they made a sequel in the future. It truly is one of the best under-rated films I've ever watched.
