When it comes to "Anastasia", what makes it great is the animation and the awesome Oscar-nominated music. The songs are catchy, the animation is stunning, and the characters are great.
Also, "The Prince of Egypt" is an amazing adaptation of the story of Moses. Love the music and the animation is amazing!

The Prince of Egypt is the only adaptation to me that made the Pharaoh more human instead of just a cartoonish villain like most other versions. Funny enough... being an actual cartoon.

It feels really insulting. Just animation-wise for comparison, the best of Boss Baby is seriously horrid, I was taken aback at how the visuals felt so pathetic and LACKING, even compared to the worst of Sinbad. I don't know what's gotten to DreamWorks, but they really been hitting rock bottom in recent years. I'm counting on HTTYD3 to bring them back to good shape (It's their best franchise, after all).

I was told the issues were the "meh" reviews from the US stage version, Disney being fearful of backing an even less family friendly adaptation and not wanting to pay for the large choir needed as Disney is like _"Ain't nobody got money for that!! _*_continues counting the BILLION+ DOLLARS from Frozen alone_* . Not sure if this is ALL true but from listening to the Paper Mill cast soundtrack (listen to it if you haven't) we're clearly missing out on a wonderful production.

What a great list! I remember they showed Twice Upon a Time on Cartoon Network AGES ago, when I was a kid. Back then, I only watched cartoons just for the sake of watching cartoons, not appreciating the art of animation, so that movie put me off just a little, since it looked weird. Now that I'm in love with the art of animation, I'd love to give this movie a try!
I also remember how beautiful the movie Anastasia was! (Before I knew the name Don Bluth, I'll admit I also thought it was a darker side of Disney, too.) The Rescuers Down Under to me was a case of the sequel being so much better than the original, something that in the 90's was a bit of an issue with Disney, considering their "Direct to DVD/VHS" phase XP
The 2d animated Dreamworks films were also wonderfully done, I had fun with El Dorado and only recently watched The Prince of Egypt, and it was so well done!

...gonna get back to enjoying your work now >w> sorry

Yes you put Anastasia on here!! I can’t agree with that enough-it’s one of my most favourite animated movies of all time! The animation, the music, Anastasia herself-perfect! The story I’ll admit is a bit eh, but that’s easily overlooked.

    10 - Don’t know
9 - Know it, love it
8 - Know it, traumatised me as a child
7 - Know it, it was the first film I ever saw on the big screen. In a small cinemathat have since closed.
6 - Know them and love them all, it was Dreamworks golden age.
5 - Know it and it would be my favourite Disney film if the gargoyles weren’t there... Actually, if one scene, one single scene wasn’t there...

5:12-8:57 I do want to say thank you adding the Resucers Down Under in your Top 10 Underrated Animated Films. I truly love and admire this animated movie in my childhood and as a kid. I'm going to make my own animated Australian film that would be a spiritual successor to Disney's The Rescuers Down Under. If I have kids, I would let them watch the movie with me to show how much "daddy" truly love this movie and gain more attention.

Nothing personal, but I think need to call you out on what you said about animal farm. I have read the book, and seen the animated movie you are referring to; not only was the ending changed like you mentioned, but so was the windmill's destruction and the death of Mr. Jones. I could go on about even more events that were different between the book and the movie, but the point is that it's nearly as different from its original book as the Hunger Games movie.

I've known someone who made the mistake of calling Anastasia a 'Disney' movie, it was way back when the film was actually released and this person was a friend/loved one who was going shopping and they assumed that merchandise from that movie would be at the 'Disney Store'....although they should have known that Anastasia was not made by Disney. Also and Megamind in my opinion is extremely underrated.

A few of those animated movies you mentioned I really really enjoy a whole lot.
Such as Fantastic Mr. Fox, All Dogs Go to Heaven & The Iron Giant.
I would even put in Cats Don't Dance & Animaniacs: Wakko's Wish as very underrated animated films for me personally.
And while the latter wasn't at all released in cinemas (Which it originally was planned for after extremely positive reception from test screenings, and that Warner Bros. didn't want to spend a ton of money on marketing for a wide release and put it straight-to-video), it's still a pretty great animated feature.

Very cool video as always, Matt! If you wanna see more obscure and underrated films, I can recommend you some that I have seen or heard ; some kind of well known, some pretty unknown, but definetlly worth checking out :
    1)Kirikou and the Sorceress (1998)
    2)Help! I'm a Fish! (2000)
    3) Birdboy : The Forgotten children(2017)
    4) Penguin's Memory : Shiawase Monogatari (1985)
    5) Fantastic Planet (1973)
Also, I kinda expected other rare movies here like The King and the Mockingbird, The Thief and the Cobbler, the fantasy movies from Rankin-Bass, or the Brave Little Toaster, but a good top nonetheless.

I am hoping that Treasure Planet is somewhere in the top 10, everyone does, sure Disney likes to claim Lilo and Stitch as their flagship early 2000’s film. But this deserves respect as a great animated adaptation of a children’s book. The film does look visually unique with some CGI included. The character of John Silver, specifically, is designed to be a somewhat 2.5D character

Also, (since I'm a bit of a history enthusiast) I like hunchback of Norte dame because I can see judge frollo actually being a real historical figure. In the Middle Ages, there were a lot of corrupt people and frollo fits right in. The burning of the windmill scene is very simalar to the atrocities committed by the many medieval figures. A few historical figures that remind me of frollo are: John the first, Richard the third (although some of the bad things he may have done could have been made up by the Tudors), George the third and many others.

You guys might not know about this, but there's actually a 5th Dreamworks hand drawn animated film: it's called "Joseph King of Dreams" and it serves a prequel to Prince of Egypt
Granted, it was only a direct DVD released film but i thought it was worth bringing up

Why should Dreamworks be ashamed of making Road to El Dorado, Prince of Egypt, and Spirit? Those movies are masterpieces and, in my opinion, better than most of their movies nowadays. (Sinbad was alright but not a fave of mine. The other three are in my top 5 favorite Dreamworks films. Just the same, I'm glad all four are getting some deserved recognition.)
Also, I am absolutely ECSTATIC to see The Hunchback of Notre Dame on this list! 😍

YYYYYYAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY FOR NUMBER 10! HOLY SHIT! TWICE UPON A TIME!!!
I had vague memories of seeing commercials for it at some point in the 90's (I guess when it aired on Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theater), and (obviously) forgot what it was and couldn't even look it up years later on RUclips - I had no f-ing clue what it was called. It was like a dream that only I had and no one else could recall and I was crazy. Eventually I kinda just gave up and assumed I was mis-remembering "The Thief and the Cobbler" when I found out what that was, because that also looked like kinda weird and similar enough too and - hey - it's been a few decades; maybe my brain just warped what it looked like. But I knew - _I knew_ - that was *not* the movie I was thinking of.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GIVING ME THE INFORMATION MY BRAIN HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO FILL IN FOR LITERALLY DECADES! Holy Hell is it nice to know what this damn movie was and that it actually existed! Peace of mind at last!

I LOVED Anastasia growing up. I wasn’t super familiar with animation studios at the time, so I didn’t know if it was a Disney film or not, so finding out it wasn’t made by Disney was surprising. More surprising, however, was when I found the movie on Disney+.
