i personally find family guy much worse than south park, because south park is usually on the good side with harsh social commentary towards racism and antisemitism whereas family guy is LITERALLY antisemitic and racist, portraying it in a way that makes it look good. Whenever South Park is controversial they (USUALLY!) make it pretty clear that it is a BAD thing (eg represented in the entire character of cartman) I mean that show even created such terms as "TOKEN" character. there is a BIG difference.
Brony Gamer Shut the fuck up, we get it, your tastes are quite mediocre. If shoving them down our throats is all you're gonna do, then go play some MLP flash game if you truly live up to your name
Brony Gamer that's really strange because Family Guy is extremely offensive, mean spirited and the best example of white male middle class supremacy in our western world. if south park criticizes something it's made so that you can clearly see who the evil guy is and that is portrayed so. most of the offensive jokes in family guy are made by the main character which we as the viewer are supposed to empathize with whereas in south park our main characters are thrown into offensive situations, they realize are not good and are so portrayed as the only real "thinking" individuals of their entire town. EG Cartman is the worst character of south park and is portrayed as such, he is supposed to be hated by the audience and our "good" main characters. If you would put Cartman in Family Guy he would basically be Peter and and the baby(forgot his name) combined who are the "stars" of the show and so portrayed in a more positive way than the "fat" sister. (the best example is also how family guy dedicates an entire episode to poke fun at jews while the entirety of south park criticizes cartman for being antisemitic with kyle as a hero)
I agree. South Park at least has some good morals and doesn't use excessive forms of violence, meanwhile family guy goes overboard with violence, shitty jokes, and morals like if you're in an abusive relationship, stay in it so the abuser can benefit from it. While some enjoy new family guy, I personally don't like it.
Also Trey Parker and Matt Stone seem to actually know how to talk about hard topics. Seth McFarlane just thinks he is right about everything, when really he has no idea what he is talking about. Example: Seahorse Seashell Party and Screams of Silence. In SSP, Meg finally stands up to her family's abuse and calls them out on their behavior. The episode's climax involves the entire family devolving into fighting. The episode ends with Meg thinking that her purpose in life is to take her family's crap so they don't turn on eachother. Moral: abuse victims should stay in abusive relationships for their abuser's benefit. Seth realized his error and made Screams of Silence to cover his ass...but made the issue worse by then suggesting that people who stay in abusive relationships are all stupid. Both of these episodes show Seth McFarlane has no real idea how abusive relationships work, but he is still insistant on giving his two cents because he can. Trey Parker and Matt Stone also talked about abuse, but they did a "sillier" version of an abuse story by having the worse abuse come from a prissy dad that just likes to bitch slap people. They were never saying anything big with the episode. (edit) Scratch that, Seth knows that abuse does not work the way he is portraying it, he was giving a middle finger to his viewers
According to Isaac Hayes III, his grandfather had actually had a stroke that took his ability to speak, and for whatever reason, his PR representative gave the excuse that he was mad about the Scientology episode of “South Park” as a means of getting him off the show without coming forward with the news of the stroke. And that honestly makes sense to me. I just wish they’d told Matt and Trey about the situation, ’cause it would’ve saved them from needing to make “The Return of Chef.”
I learned that the REAL reason Isaac Hayes quit South Park was because he had a stroke, and one of his fellow Scientology members resigned on his behalf without Hayes knowing.
So since the release of this review, I finally got a chance to see Song of the South. And I must say that Uncle Remus himself is not racist. The problem is that he's a servant on a southern plantation, and the movie seems fine with that. I definitely see why people would be mad at this movie, but I don't think it should be hidden for the public to see. I say Disney releases the film as a straight to DVD movie with a little opening akin to the one on the Looney Tunes Censored 11 that explains how this film is a product of the time. And as much as Disney and the African American community WOULD like to forget this film, that isn't going to be possible. Because of how legendary the backlash against this movie is, the public has become curious about the film and has gone out of its way to find out what is so bad about it. And I say we should be allowed to see what problems this movie has and make our own judgements about its content.
The problem is people are ignorant. First of all, video is after the civil war so not a slave. Second of all, if these people weren't so worried about confirming victimhood and gave a crap about history they'd know that many house slaves were actually treated well, and chose to remain in the employment of their former masters when slavery was abolished.
Sari Beep o.O I feel like that should have been established in the movie. Something along the lines of "We hired these people after the Civil War. They've been working for us ever since." It would make the implications of the movie much clearer.
***** Well back then the majority of society wasn't run by SJWs. Back then, most people had to see racism before they started screaming racism. So, obviously, in the video, the'd see this happy black man, singing and doing what he does, and that was enough to know he was being portrayed in a respectful, meaningful way, therefore no racism. Notice it was just some nutcases who didn't seen the movie and/or were people specifically paid to go around finding racism wherever they can that caused an uproar?
It's been 8 years since I saw the film. I don't remember it being too mean-spirited. And I do recall loving the guy who played Uncle Remus, because he was just a charming cinnamon roll.
Sari Beep o.O Back then? What you forgot the bullshit censoring of nes/snes games and 4kids? We actually allow way more stuff now, moralists will always exist
Animat wasn't kidding when he said that the censored 11 where out on boot leg videos. I actually watched one of then called "jungle jitters", and "all this and rabbit stew" on a dvd called "100 warner bros cartoons." as a kid. Out of all of the cartoons that where shown, theses left me the most confused. Like I honestly thought, "why do they look so funny?" "Why are they acting so funny" "Where's the joke? Usually these cartoons would have a funny joke, but this one seems to keep, going and going." I was legitimately confused. And when I discovered that the whole joke revolved around the idea that "they are black" I wasn't amused. Hell even my younger siblings watched it with me, and they thought that "this was stupid."
even then those cartoons were mostly for adults since at the time most cartoons were made for everyone especially those of warners and mgm from the mid 1930s to the 40s by Tex Avery the same guy that did Jungle Jitters and the Bugs Bunny one
In high school I did a paper on the controversy surrounding pokemon, and that's how I discovered the banned episodes. Lucky for me, youtube was still young enough that I was able to watch them.
The Jynx controversy was so dumb on my opinion. Japan doesn't even know what "blackface" is, why would they use it? Where have you seen a black woman with naturally straight white hair? Jynx is primarily based on a Nordic princess because of its Ice-Type. The blackened skin is there because Nordic legend states that a princess' skin turns black because of the cold. Furthermore, Jynx fulfills the stereotype of the "fat lady" in the opera with the large circles covering her breasts and long red dress, who are often depicted as vikings. Jynx is in no way an offensive design unless you happen to be terrified of operas and Nordic princesses.
+Genesis Calderón (ZimVader0017) Yes! Someone who understands! Jynx is also based on ganguro, a 90s fashion trend in Japan where girls and women would bleach/dye their hair blond, darken their skin, and wear light makeup as a form of rebellion toward the Japanese standard of beauty, ebony hair and ivory skin. They're not racist but they're showing admiration; Jynx can be considered a testament to that. She is a Pokemon with a unique and quirky design, and not once does anyone in-universe mock her for the way she looks.
both blackface and asian face(I said asian cuz it originally use to portray chinese but was reuse for the japanese during ww2) were popular in cartoons in the 1940s
Apparently, on Cartoon Network in 2002, they had a marathon called "Every Single Looney Tunes Cartoon Ever Made"; they were going to air the Censored Eleven for the first time on Adult Swim at midnight during the marathon. However, the Censored Eleven was pulled from the airings, and Turner Broadcasting was sewed by somebody claimed that they used false advertising.
From what I understood from reading about the history of Song of the South, it was to take place after the Civil War, when a lot of former slave owners allowed their former slaves to still live on property since many of them had nowhere else to go. They even went as far as to improve their homes and give them their own homes to live in besides the standard, cramped slave homes. The actual film NEVER clarified that fact, which was the biggest mistake Disney made in my opinion. The rest of the film is fine in itself, just the questionable content is the uncomfortable part.
Maybe if they did address that the black people were no longer slaves, then maybe "Song of the South" wouldn't have been so controversial. That's just my opinion.
I'm so annoyed at those people who threatened Trey and Matt. I see nothing wrong with what Trey and Matt wanted to do, but no people have to get offended. It's okay to feel that way, but seriously threatening their lives went WAY TOO FAR, and it feels everyone gets offended by just about anything.
I have a DVD copy of Song of the South that I got for Christmas a few years ago. I've noticed that DVD copies of that film can be sold at the general store in Black Mountain close to where my family has a mountain house. I was pretty amazed. I didn't think the movie could ever be found on DVD anywhere in the USA. Plus, I hope this doesn't sound insensitive in any way, but I never really found Song of the South really that offensive. I can understand how it's controversial but to me, it seems mostly harmless.
I honestly think people today are way too sensitive. Some of these I can understand, but many are just dumb. For instance, criticizing a movie without watching it? What the chickensex? And in many other cases, people will just have to learn how to take a joke. I've seen people poke fun of swedes a lot, and I usually don't mind. Heck, every time a Swedish character is in the Simpsons or Futurama they are what some would call offensive stereotypes, and I just take that as the joke it's supposed to be. And censoring South Park? Why? They may be shocking and bizarre, but they have good morals. They are criticizing what many dare not to speak about but that needs to be brought up. Many people should really grow a spine and learn to separate pointless offensiveness from harmless jokes or satires criticizing the issue instead of being part of it.
***** Cold. Alone. Under pressure. Kept from suicide only by the thought of the eternal void that most likely follows. In other words, pretty good. And you, internet stranger?
Willcraft Animations Annoyed with college(specifically my English class.), dealing with having two family members with cancer, paranoid that my pet rats will drop dead and eat eachother. In other words, awesome.
Neither of them were "criminals." Porygon was perminately removed from the show because like Animat said, the creators didn't want to remind people of the Pokemon Shock.
Pokémon doesn’t want Pikachu their MASCOT to get banned because he’s the money maker. They used Porygon as the scapegoat to keep their golden mon safe.
About Song of the South: -James Baskett (the guy who portrayed Uncle Remus) died 2 years after this film. -But he recieved an honorary Oscar which was given to him by none other than Ingrid Bergman -Ruth Warrick, who portrays Johnny's mother, portrayed Charles Foster Kane's first wife in Citizen Kane -Hattie McDaniel, who portrays one of the slaves at the plantation, was also a slave in Gone with the Wind -Bobby Driscoll, who portrays Johnny, also voiced Peter Pan in the film of the same name. Unfortunely, he died at the age of 31 years -Baskett also voiced one of the crows in Dumbo -Baskett was born the same year as Cary Grant
For those who are searching for Song of the South online, it's impossible to find the whole movie. Once it's been uploaded it's usually taken down immediately due to "copyright issues" which is code for Disney wanting to scrub it from their records
I remember "All this and rabbit stew". Watched it all the time when I was little. I'm black and I have to admit I still find it pretty funny. The guy is just so... Over the top with how he looks, acts and talks.
After actually having seen Song of the South I gotta say Its decent, definitely not Disney's worst but not their best either. I do find it a bit overhated though.
During the time of the controversy, Isaac Hayes was in a hospital dying from a stroke. His son came forward to say that his father had a good nonhypocritical sense of humor and that the official release was fabricated in his name by officials within the Scientology church.
3:30 As someone with photosensitive epilepsy...I'm thrilled to call this episode the one episode that's so messed I never have to watch it FOR MEDICAL REASONS.
*NOTE NOW THAT ANNOTATIONS ARE DEAD* there used to be an annotation correcting the porygon timestamp, 1:42 is when the flashing colors start. go to 1:48 instead!!
While Song of the South has always been controversial and problematic, I think it's overall reputation (and Disney's) would not be nearly as toxic if Disney had released it on DVD in the early 2000s (possibly as part of its Walt Disney Treasures series) with an introduction putting the thing into historic context and explaining how it's offensive depictions do not reflect what Disney is today. They could then have a documentary talking about the making of the film, and it's reception over the years. There may have been some media fuss when first released, but afterward I think the movie would have just slowly faded from people's minds since, with the exception of the animated segments, it's so dated that most of today's children wouldn't want to rewatch it over and over. However, by not releasing the movie, it's developed a notorious status as the "racist Disney movie that got banned." The controversy and the lack of home video release has made the film the thing of legend. Whenever some lazy clickbait writer wants to discuss Disney controversies, you can guarantee that Song of the South will always top the list due to it's status as "the film Disney does not want you to see!"
Even if it's not on here: "Where the Dead go to Die" I heard it's so unknown and disturbing it should remain staying like that... plus I heard it on one of his videos after the Scanner Darkly review.
Maurice Bear It actually began to bore me. When you throw shocking material at the screen as often as that movie, you get desensitized pretty quick. Plus it graphically looks like ass.
The Ultimate Sagavan I felt that the real criminals were the animators, no one didn’t even double check if they should include or edit that flash. Pikachu and Porygon are not the criminals in this situation.
Like the rest of your videos this was a great top ten, a couple of the controversies I wasn't even aware of. I must say though, I was a bit surprised that the Drawn Together series didn't make it onto the list, then again I trust your judgement more than my own. Keep up the great work!
When I searched up song of the south, the one I found never popped up with the not for sale thing, but I had to keep it paused for a long time because of buffering.
I didn’t expect that statement to become dated, but it’s official, when it comes to song of the south, Disney is scared of both showing the movie itself, and even merely mentioning it. What with them retheming splash Mountain to the Princess and the frog and removing Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah from area music at the Disney parks. we have now reached a point where Disney officially wants ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Song of the South
For the Porygon episode, the news network in Japan showed the seizure clip even after it already caused enough to the Pokémon audience. What idiots. That being said, Pikachu, everyone's beloved mouse mascot akin to Mickey Mouse, was the one who did this! But they couldn't remove the very face of Pokémon, now would they? Another episode, "Legendary Island Battle! Barboach Vs. Whiscash," never saw the light of day because of all the earthquakes in the Japan, and that showing the episode would be in bad taste.
sakuraslicer19 Reason why Porygon has not appeared is to not remind people about it. Actually nurse Joy is to blame, she activated the anti computer virus vaccine that sent those missiles.
Boltscrap It's been almost twenty years, and Porygon should appear in an episode that redeems its reputation and humble out Pikachu! This whole Porygon fiasco is already old, and the "Arnold Betrays Iggy" effect (removing a character from the show because of another character's faults) has to end now! Nurse Joy launched those missiles, but she didn't know that the main characters were in the computer. Pikachu blowing up all those missiles was the very thing that made the explosions happen themselves.
sakuraslicer19 Yeah but in the case of Arnold Betrays Iggy, it wasn't Arnold's fault, the "betrayal" was accidental and Iggy was being a brat about it and it implies that he was sorry about blaming the wrong person rather than being a brat (I'm not allowed to cuss) to Arnold. Pikachu was the one at fault but what would they do other than make sure they don't give Pikachu that effect people still remember that episode and the best to ease the incident is to not have the titular Pokemon featured in the episode, ever again rather than taking the five main characters (Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket) out and effectively canceling the show.
McKenzie Eby To be more specific about "Arnold Betrays Iggy," Sid and Stinky were the ones who caused the conflict of the Hey Arnold episode, and Iggy, who had a chance to be in the spotlight, had it all taken away from him by the end. Porygon didn't do anything wrong, and it's been too long to keep brooding on about that episode. Porygon needs to star in another episode, as well as its other family members, and save it from the bad publicity caused by the series mascot. The creators tried to make us forget the GS arc, and we never did, so why forget Porygon?
+DarkStone94 +McKenzie Eby Neither Pikachu, nor Porygon and not even Nurse Joy are to blame for the Pokemon Shock. You don't blame characters for controversies. Everyone knows it was the animators' fault. THEY are the ones who didn't know the flashing lights would cause seizures.
As far as I know, it was Pikachu that caused the accident, not Porygon. Had Pikachu been blamed for what happend, then he would have been thrown out of the anime for good.
Critics said that the film failed on addressing weather or not there was slavery during the movies' time line... "Hey Remus! Liking your day as a not slave?" "Why yes, yes I am. Now then, what was I saying? Oh yeah! Zipidy Doo Da~"
Issac Hayes son sadly reveal he didn’t quit on his own the church took advantage of him being not well at the time so sadly he was made to quit South Park against his wishes. :(
Honestly I think the unspoken reason why Disney censors the hell out of Song of the South is that while it does have the controversy of possibly glorifying slavery, it’s also a pretty lack luster film. Other then the songs and animated parts, the main live action story itself is certainly not as iconic as Marry Poppins or Snow White. If it was they’d probably just have a celebrity guest star address the issue before the film or even just edit in the time period it’s set in(kind of a reverse black centaurettes from Fantasia). But since it’s only an okay/subpar film with a lot of controversy means too much of a flight risk for only a minor profit
I think Dreamworks annie awards incident kinda made a dent on the company's image, hence why you don't hear much from them anymore. I know the movies are mainly why they're having a rough time, but you can't deny that the Annies didn't help.
I had Wabbit Stew along with a few other public domain Warner Bros. shorts on VHS as a kid. And as a sheltered 90's kid, I didn't think much of it. To me, the black character was no different from Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam; it was the same type of character, and the color of his skin had nothing to do with anything. It wasn't until I watched it again many years later, old enough to understand the historical context and the concept of stereotyping, did it raise an eyebrow for me. Even then, I consider it one of the less offensive cartoons of the Censored 11.
"They considered it a win for the terrorists" okay, people what would you do if you made a cartoon, and a group of people contacted you saying that if you don't remove a character from it in the next episode, you'll be dead.
Also Song of The South does not suit the list, though, it may be controversial, but the rest of it was live-action, it was an Live-Action/animated movie!
0:54 epilepsy 3:54 South Park 4:37 anti religion 5:58 Censorship 8:35 Sony Hack Flashbacks 10:08 questionable about slavery 19:56 we all knew this was coming! 21:14 21:43 I hate to post this
Porygon-Z looks like it's having a seizure in it's sprite animation so they aren't really trying not to remind people of the episode it seems to be the opposite...
My List: 10.Mind Pollution - Captain Planet 9.Man’s Best Friend - Ren and Stimpy 8.Electric Soldier Porygon - Pokemon 7.Rude Removal - Dexters Laboratory 6.Leap Frogs - Rocko’s Modern Life 5.Extra Large Medium - Family Guy 4.Song Of The South 3.Drawn Together 2.200/201 - South Park 1.The Censored 11 Honourable Mention: Dumbo
Given the flashing prior and the intensity communicated by the way scenes were framed, the final Pikachu shock seems more like the straw that broke the camel's back than the sole cause. It's the one bit of stimulation that finally triggered said seizures.
21:41 - 21:54 Tragically, when you look at the history and events at that time, it's true. I've studied a lot of AP US History, and African Americans had a hard time during this era.
It just occurred to me. What's stopping Disney from editing in a disclaimer at the start of Song of the South clarifying that it's post-Civil War and was not intended to glorify slavery? You know, the same kind of thing that Warner Bros managed to do with its controversial cartoons and that Disney itself now does for some of its older films on Disney+?
I remember in fourth grade my teacher showed us clips from Song of the South on a DVD during history class. She said she bought the DVD from the UK or something.
Song of the south needs a rerelease because it's a legitimately great movie, I'm so tired of disney completely ignoring it and acting like it never existed, they need to own up to it and finally rerelease it on disney plus and on dvd/blu-ray (and not to mention that it's technically educational and historical too)
I think of these cartoons as points in history. Although they are controversial, they are pieces in history. When I look at them now, I look at them for educational reasons. They were the norm at the time. We can look at these as how we improved in the present day. We grew out of pointing and laughing at another culture and that we won’t repeat the same mistakes in the past.
"Pokemon" wasn't originally intended for kids anyway. As a matter of fact, when it comes to the world of Japanese Anime (no racial), G-Rated content doesn't exist when it comes to our spectrum. You see, Japan has a different spectrum on what is appropriate for kids and what is not.

Tru then Ash would not have Pikachu
They decided to blame Porygon mostly because Pikachu is the mascot and very loved
Can't blame the money maker.

Especially after the 2018 Oscars Ceremony. Sure, "Coco" definitely deserved the nomination AND the win, but "The Boss Baby"? No, just no.
@@moviemaniac2159 Boss Baby is bad
Whoever thought that film deserved a nomination needs to get their head examined...
Jynx is in no way an offensive design unless you happen to be terrified of operas and Nordic princesses.
it like the Koreans and wrold war 2 they have shirts with the swescare and the Nazi symbol and other things
2012 game theory flashbacks
both blackface and asian face(I said asian cuz it originally use to portray chinese but was reuse for the japanese during ww2) were popular in cartoons in the 1940s
"Get out of that closet Tom!!"
".......NO!"
Puffer Fish oh look it’s that one youtuber
Apparently, on Cartoon Network in 2002, they had a marathon called "Every Single Looney Tunes Cartoon Ever Made"; they were going to air the Censored Eleven for the first time on Adult Swim at midnight during the marathon. However, the Censored Eleven was pulled from the airings, and Turner Broadcasting was sewed by somebody claimed that they used false advertising.
21:40 - 21:51 yes i am black but the clips and how his voice was cracked me up lol
I love it to! Heck, he almost sounds like my grandma!😆
Honesty, I feel bad for the man that played Uncle Remus, he seemed like he really put his heart into it. :0(
+Internet Trash (That one kid.) And it was sweet that he was the first black actor to win an Oscar.
sakuraslicer19
Yeah, it's to bad he was in this film.
Did anyone else just laugh when he made that breaking bad joke?
Mediawatcher Me, but I don't even watch the show xD

My biggest problem with Song of the South is that it is boring.
True
I have a DVD copy of Song of the South that I got for Christmas a few years ago. I've noticed that DVD copies of that film can be sold at the general store in Black Mountain close to where my family has a mountain house. I was pretty amazed. I didn't think the movie could ever be found on DVD anywhere in the USA. Plus, I hope this doesn't sound insensitive in any way, but I never really found Song of the South really that offensive. I can understand how it's controversial but to me, it seems mostly harmless.
Florica Anderson strong word's
I got a DVD from an online store. The film itself is okay, but nothing to write home about.
Florica Anderson I’m gonna take a wild guess and say you’re white?
You found a DVD of Song of the South in a place called BLACK MOUNTAIN?
Where's Black Mt?
Hi Wilcraft Animations! How are you?
***** Cold.
The Southpark episode he was talking about was probably censored for the safety of the crew members and reputation of the network.
Willcraft Animations whats the plans for the next monster school
The Annie award controversy was really interesting and was just crazy
The real criminal is Pikachu because he blew up the missiles not porygon
Neither of them were "criminals." Porygon was perminately removed from the show because like Animat said, the creators didn't want to remind people of the Pokemon Shock.
Pokémon doesn’t want Pikachu their MASCOT to get banned because he’s the money maker. They used Porygon as the scapegoat to keep their golden mon safe.
Bella Swan Maybe you didn’t read my reply right.
What was in the missles?
I think team rocket was the real criminals for the photosensitive pokemon episose
About Song of the South:
-James Baskett (the guy who portrayed Uncle Remus) died 2 years after this film.
-But he recieved an honorary Oscar which was given to him by none other than Ingrid Bergman
-Ruth Warrick, who portrays Johnny's mother, portrayed Charles Foster Kane's first wife in Citizen Kane
-Hattie McDaniel, who portrays one of the slaves at the plantation, was also a slave in Gone with the Wind
-Bobby Driscoll, who portrays Johnny, also voiced Peter Pan in the film of the same name. Unfortunely, he died at the age of 31 years
-Baskett also voiced one of the crows in Dumbo
-Baskett was born the same year as Cary Grant
For those who are searching for Song of the South online, it's impossible to find the whole movie. Once it's been uploaded it's usually taken down immediately due to "copyright issues" which is code for Disney wanting to scrub it from their records
He should've waited for Sausage Party to come out
Or Batman: The Killing Joke.
I wouldnt say Killing Joke is on the same level as these cartoons
What part of Sausage Party? He movie itself, or the behind the scenes scandal, or both?
StageLined yeah. The animators were in very poor conditions
I kind of thought he would bring up Drawn Together.
Me too.
Nah... It was offensive for the sake of being offensive, at a time when that was the trend.
I remember "All this and rabbit stew". Watched it all the time when I was little. I'm black and I have to admit I still find it pretty funny. The guy is just so... Over the top with how he looks, acts and talks.
Clap! clap!
Censored 11 is #1... Finally, someone did it
3:30 As someone with photosensitive epilepsy...I'm thrilled to call this episode the one episode that's so messed I never have to watch it FOR MEDICAL REASONS.
even though i don't suffer from epilepsy, the flashes really hurts my eyes
I really love the Brer Rabbit and The Tar Trap short and story actually, though I can see how controversial it can be..
I always thought the excessive censorship in the southpark park 201 was actually part of the joke, I didn't know it was forced by comedy central XD
I distinctly remember seeing "All This and Rabbit Stew" on TV in 2002. I think it was on Cartoon Network, maybe?
Good job electric dragon!,loved the grand theft auto bit at the end!
Maurice Bear Matt did a whole review, that's how I came to know of it
Yeah me too, I never thought that a movie like that existed. I thought Digimon: The Movie or Home on the Range.
Maurice Bear So did I but compared to this abomination , those two are pretty much citizen cane.
Maurice Bear It actually began to bore me. When you throw shocking material at the screen as often as that movie, you get desensitized pretty quick. Plus it graphically looks like ass.
It would be number zero
Porygon also makes a cameo in "Pokemon 4Ever" and "Pokemon: Heroes."
Porygon was my favorite Pokemon as a kid, kind of ironic that the episode featuring it became so infamous.
The Pokemon crew should've just edited the seizure footage, and just make it pure white. Why can't anyone see this easy solution?
The Ultimate Sagavan I felt that the real criminals were the animators, no one didn’t even double check if they should include or edit that flash. Pikachu and Porygon are not the criminals in this situation.
animat, i have a question. if song of the south was so controversial, why did they make a ride out of it? (splash mountain)
Princess Luna It's easier to promote the cartoon characters and capitalize on them as long as nobody knew the context of where they're from.
Likely for people who didn’t know context
They’re getting rid of the ride. I’m not happy about it.
this comment aged well
That’s the same reason I’m upset about it too. Same thing with the magic kingdom. Princess and the frog doesn’t fit Frontierland at all.
What's really ironic is the man who played uncle remus actually won an OSCAR for his portrayal!
what a cool channel. This is way off topic, but you seem like a genuinely nice person. Subscribed :)
Song of the south has a ride at Disney world and guess what it's splash mountain
Yeah Splash Mountain Actually is Based Off Song of The South
Yes
Not anymore. It's now Tiana's Bayou Adventure
Everyone here praising the wit and humour of South Park? You have my full support and encouragement.
Hey Animat u should do the top 10 controversial video games that would be interesting
adrian alvarez Oh HELL YEAH!
YAYAH!!!
"Hey Remus! Liking your day as a not slave?"
"Why yes, yes I am.
14:43 I think it was a revenge after they lost to Toy Story 3 at the Oscars.
The last minute was the best. Shots have been fired GTA.
“This is where Walter White comes in”
(Shows clip of Breaking Bad)
Annie Awards > OSCAR
South Park,The Simpsons, and Family Guy are all doing things strangely.
Song Of the South is supposed to take place during the Reconstruction Era
0:54 epilepsy
3:54 South Park
4:37 anti religion
5:58 Censorship
8:35 Sony Hack Flashbacks
10:08 questionable about slavery
19:56 we all knew this was coming! 21:14
21:43 I hate to post this
Animat: And the award for most controversial cartoon goes to...Those 11 Looney tune shorts!
Dexter's Lab: My episode doesn't even get a nomination?
How were the people behind Electric Soldier Polygon able to animate the episode with all those bright flashing lights?
If Trey & Matt didn’t write Trapped in the Closet, Issac Hayes would of stayed on the show once a season, ‘Sigh’ I really still miss Chef!
Actually his son revealed Scientology heads made him quit while he was unwell against his wishes.
Great top 10 list
Oh so thats why i didnt know anyone from the splash mountain ride :)
Porygon-Z looks like it's having a seizure in it's sprite animation so they aren't really trying not to remind people of the episode it seems to be the opposite...
My List:
10.Mind Pollution - Captain Planet
9.Man’s Best Friend - Ren and Stimpy
8.Electric Soldier Porygon - Pokemon
7.Rude Removal - Dexters Laboratory
6.Leap Frogs - Rocko’s Modern Life
5.Extra Large Medium - Family Guy
4.Song Of The South
3.Drawn Together
2.200/201 - South Park
1.The Censored 11
Honourable Mention:
Dumbo
*FUN FACT:*
Speaking of Song of The South Splash Mountain at Disney World is Actually Based Off Song of The South
0:15 OH. NO.
you're awesome Animat
Mewtwo was another man made Pokemon.
Given the flashing prior and the intensity communicated by the way scenes were framed, the final Pikachu shock seems more like the straw that broke the camel's back than the sole cause. It's the one bit of stimulation that finally triggered said seizures.
8:54 - 9:04 Great job AniMat ya some how managed to rip off Zipadeedooda!
Gaming Guy56 it’s a joke
21:41 - 21:54 Tragically, when you look at the history and events at that time, it's true. I've studied a lot of AP US History, and African Americans had a hard time during this era.
Yeah we were pretty racist back in the 30’s and 40’s
I actually have an official DVD release of "Song of The South", from Disney, however, it's a movie inside the special features.
ATLEAST song of the south has good intentions
Electric solder Porygon used flash.
I'm surprised the Aqua Teen Boston Incident didn't end up on the list.
From what I heard, it was the promotion of the cartoon that was controversial, not the cartoon itself
Sailor Italy Yes but they also made a cartoon about that incident that was never released.
Huh. What can you do?
He said to skip to 0:42 to escape to flashing, but that's when it started.
Thanks for that Animat!
*1:42
It just occurred to me. What's stopping Disney from editing in a disclaimer at the start of Song of the South clarifying that it's post-Civil War and was not intended to glorify slavery? You know, the same kind of thing that Warner Bros managed to do with its controversial cartoons and that Disney itself now does for some of its older films on Disney+?
I remember in fourth grade my teacher showed us clips from Song of the South on a DVD during history class. She said she bought the DVD from the UK or something.
1:42 he literally told people to skip here if they were prone to epilepsy yet this is the exact moment that these flashing lights started
Song of the south needs a rerelease because it's a legitimately great movie, I'm so tired of disney completely ignoring it and acting like it never existed, they need to own up to it and finally rerelease it on disney plus and on dvd/blu-ray (and not to mention that it's technically educational and historical too)
Good foresight putting a clip of John Lasseter in a list about controversial animation
24:08 - Half of the many offensive things that are in the show "Drawn together"
What about Drawn Together?
Didn't the original version of this video feature AniMat getting bleeped when talking about 200/201?
+Adam Kaunfer Yes, but the bleep was copied from the episode and Viacom noticed it so that's why he cut it :/
+Cassandra Saldana I see.
Cassandra Saldana ya really gotta hate Viacom sometimes
I regret watching the Pokemon flashing light scene, my eyes are burning now:((
Even though I'm not epileptic, I kept my eyes shut from that scene. 😑
When I look at the scene, I find it slightly strains my eyes a bit.
doglover102 I've seen that flash of lights, but it didn't really have an effect on me
It didn't really have an affect on me, besides feeling a bit strange. (Then again, I wasn't feeling well before hand so..)
I shut my eyes too
4 - Expected :/ I've heard of similar TV projects, like the Powerpuff Girls "See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey" and the Problem Solverz (God knows I'm not a fan x( )
3 - Again, expected. TITC: Won't allow it :/ 200/201: Woah.
2 - At doing Uncle Remus, this was better than Coonskin ;)
1 - HEY!! I'M COLORED AND I'M PROUD OF IT!!!
Not gonna lie, Mat. If you told me you were single and looking, I would run to catch that train.
