    Great review- I love using FilmConvert (and it deserves more 'love' on RUclips- IMHO just as good as Dehancer at a fraction of the price!) I usually leave FilmConvert at the end of my node tree- since it is adding grain I figured you want the grain to be added after any other effect/halation/glow... What do you think?

    • @alexcormier97
      @alexcormier97  Год назад +1

      Hey there, thanks a lot! If you're only using Film Convert for the grain, then I totally agree with you! Place it at the end! But of you're grading using their film stock, I would put it at the beginning of my node tree!👍

  • @matthewwinne
    @matthewwinne Год назад +1

    Forgive the noob question, but every RUclipsr jumps right into the edit when demoing FilmConvert. When it comes to camera settings, if you plan on using FilmConvert should you always shoot Log or does it work well with other PPs, too?

      @alexcormier97  Год назад

      Hey Matthew!
      Thanks a lot for reaching out!
      What camera do you shoot on? I can certainly help you figure out if your camera picture profile is included in the pack!🤘 Film Convert is primarily made for log, but there are a few options out there for standard PP!😎

  • @4ngles

    I discover your channel, really helpful thx! :) I've a G9, what about using "natural" profile and grading after with FCN? I saw VLOG was really bad in lowlight situation and 8bit footages. Or maybe using Cine D is a good compromise? Thx Alex ! +1 sub

    • @alexcormier97
      @alexcormier97  Год назад

      Hey there, sorry for the late reply.. For the G9, you have multiple camera profiles available to make sure you properly convert your footage: Standard, Natural, Vivid, Scenary, Portrait, Cinelike D and Cinelike V .. But I'm not the best guy to give you advice about your camera settings, as I've never shot on Panasonic.. But if you're shooting in one of the camera profiles that I listed below, you'll be able to grade the same way I do! :)

    I also use the BMPCC 6k, but I shoot ProRes most of the time. When I apply the Film Convert plugin all the highlights blow up... I use the right camera profile, of course. Is this something normal or what? Should I just use the plugin in RAW footage? I also have to say that the original footage, from the camera, is exposed right! You can see the sky and clouds and everything, but after the plugin... almost all white. Hopefully someone knows what is going on. Thanks!

    • @alexcormier97
      @alexcormier97  Год назад +1

      Hey there,
      I almost never shoot ProRes, so I would have to test it out! However, I used Film Convert on my Sony footage which is also ETTR, and I had to bring down the exposure by almost 2 stops in post to get the image where I wanted!👍

    Thank you for the video! I would like to ask you two questions: Can you also use Film Convert on the fuji eterna profil or do need to use flog? Is 8 bit good enough to apply Film Convert?

    • @alexcormier97
      @alexcormier97  Год назад

      Thanks a lot Daniel! I'm not sure I understand your first question, as I am not a Fujifilm shooter? If I understand correctly you want to know if you can use the Fuji Eterna Film Stock if you're not shooting in F-Log?
      For your second question, I would really recommend Film Convert to 8-bit video shooter because you can easily get the film look without using qualifiers! As a matter of fact, I purchased Film Convert when I was primarily shooting on the Sony a7iii which is 8-bit, and it has significantly improved my grades!👍

    • @danielarntz9362
      @danielarntz9362 Год назад

      @@alexcormier97 Hi Alex, Thank you for your answer! Eterna is profil in Fuji Cameras that you can chose instead of flog. I tested the trial version of FCN in the meantime and it works fine with this profile. I like the results so far. It looks more organic and less digital (I guess this what it is for ;) ).

    So in using filmconvert nitrate we don’t need to have a color space transform anymore? I have nítrate but seen different ways of doing it and gets confusing
    Also, on the 4th node could we slap on a stylistic LUT without jacking the colors too much?

    • @alexcormier97
      @alexcormier97  Год назад

      Technically, it's similar to CST, since you are telling the plugin which camera you used, so it can properly convert the footage to the film stock you chose. But to answer your question, no, you don't need a color space transform node.
      And yes, you can add a stylistic node after..
      The Film Convert plugin should go upstream, and the look adjustments should come afterwards. If I were you, I wouldn't add a creative LUT after FilmConvert, I would instead add a serial node, and use my primaries to get the look I want, to make sure your image doesn't break!
