- Getting ever so closer to getting this 1993 Mazda FD RX7 complete. We still have a TON of things to paint. So figured we would knock out everything we possibly can right now. At this point, all that is left is the Hood, Doors, Hatch, and some small bits here and there. It's insane to finally see this thing look like a car again and it's looking so good!

Having sanded expoxy primer in the past, i feel your pain. The stuff stays tacky for weeks, and gums up sand paper almost instantly.
It absolutely destroys sand paper 😂
Looks good bumper match was great, even GTR35 and GR Supra white bumpers are off usually. Love FD RX7s body lines and interesting to see you re do it all. Take yr time with doors etc as more content for us to enjoy. That paint booth, what a brilliant idea.
The paint booth definitely came in clutch, would highly suggest that thing for anyone doing any decent amount of paint work 🙌🔥

Devin niemela has something similar to that booth and after using it a bunch it gets a bunch of stuff in his paint. Probably best to clean the filters often and then try and hit the inside to clean up stray paint!

You may want to paint the hatch just in case. Carbon parts have a nasty habit of not fitting quite right.

A white car just seems to let the car show it's real persona. Nothing glitzing it up or making it pop on the surface. It's like a bikini. It shows you all the curves naturally. It really allows for contrast and coordination.
Seriously, it shows all the natural lines of the car. I’d say both black and white do really well with that

Your painting technique has greatly improved with the long sweeping passes and early cut in of the hard to reach areas. Too many people overlap when spraying and wonder why they get heavy spots and runs. Gun also seems better adjusted.
Edit: Did you not use spray adhesive on the bumpers before primer? If you don't any flex of the bumper, if it gets bumped into, you will chip the paint and peel off.
I did not, but if it does happy we can repaint them and use some 🫡 tbh I was not tracking that I needed some.

@Smeedia For future reference, you want to use spray adjesive before primer on any rubberized flexible bumpers. On fiberglass isn't necessary.
Not sure if you knew, but TJ hunts company streethunter sells a Carbon V mount hood for the FD.

They don't make that front bumper with out that hideous license plate mount built in? Not trying to hate cause your killing it but if you can get that bumper with out I think it's still worth it 😂
They make aftermarket ones but they looks to me without it 😅 like the body line doesn’t flow well 😅

Looking sweeeet! Are you going to sand all the clear back to flat and buff or leave a little bit of texture to the paint?
Wet sand it all down and polish it so get it all looking like glass 🫡
I think if you had a matte finish on whatever carbon accents you put on the body it will really stand out nice
I have a custom carbon wing blade being made in dry carbon so we can see how it looks. Matte might be the way 🔥

Wouldn’t call it SEMA show worthy myslef. Reasonable for a first timer job but in now way top show quality.
The fans always seem to fail on those inflatables by overheating, collapsing and ruining the paint job.
I’d consider the fans a service item, they’re cheap enough I’d prob replace em after X amount of hours

Just finished removing the factory feed hardline out of my gd, man that sucked ass. Complete dash removal and brake booster removal. Not fun. Gonna cut the evap barb off and convert to an from the hard line back to the factory fuel pump hanger
Dude when I did that in the Va it was an absolute nightmare 💀
@@Smeedia I never want to do it again. I had to remove it because the end of it has a small pin hole from the hose fitting off the tank side. So I’m just gonna convert to an on the feed for now

The filter is inside of the paint cups, 3M integrated them so all the paint filters before spraying 😅

Carbon accents? Leave the hatch in carbon then. It's straight.

@@Smeedia Some cars it works on, some cars it doesn't. Same for the hood, fenders, etc. White should make it looks pretty good, esp. if you're putting glass in it.
Why not just sell the metal hatch to someone who might want it? Considering FDs are still desirable there's still some money to be made there. JS.
