  • Paper is easy to get a hold of. It is inexpensive. Quick to burn. And fun to experiment with. This video shows just a few things I have done recently using paper. I hope to get some heavier paper and make a couple cards.
    I have found that cutting basic white printer paper works well at 800 mm/min at 100% power on my 5.5 watt Genmitsu LE5040 laser. One trick that I have been working on is to use 2 sheet of paper and I find that reduces the scorching on the back of the paper from the waste board.

    Thank you for the video. I have been using my Ortur for a little over a year but did not know that it would cut paper. I appreciate you sharing your settings as it gives me a starting point for my laser.

    This video is impressive and very encouraging for a novice like me! I built this machine this week and so far I can't cut properly with it. It's probably a problem with the focus and also the alignment of the axes. What do you think? Could I have made some mistakes in the construction? Any advice is welcome. Also do you use lightburn or just GRBL? Thanks!

      Exciting news that you have gotten a laser engraver and have put it together. You have opened the door some some fun and sometimes frustrating project. I am sorry to hear that you have having issues with your machine. One of the number one things is to insure your laser if focused as sharply as possible. Just like taking a picture, if the lens is not focused on your target, the picture will be fuzzy. An alignment issue can cause your burnt to turn out differently than expected but shouldn't prevent you from burning. I do have some videos about how to square the gantry as well as a series on assembling the Genmitsu LE5040. It might be helpful to review those videos as there may be a tidbit of information that helps you with your laser.
      As for software, I use LightBurn. I have found it great to work with. It is feature rich and after watching a few videos on how things work, I have found it to be much better of a program that one would think based on their price. I have even used the LightBurn vector editor to create things that I then imported and used with my CNC router (Genmitsu 3018 Pro). Even through LightBurn is really designed for laser projects, I have found it helpful with other things. If only they could drive my router! ;-)
      I hope this help. Good luck with your new CNC laser. I hope you get it working well soon.

    Any way to instal a stronger laser to make this thing go faster?

    • @CNCATHome
      @CNCATHome  Год назад

      I updated my laser on the LE5050 to a fixed focus 5.5watt laser and added air assist. That seems to really make the difference between almost working and actually working. I also upgraded recently to a new machine, the Genmitsu LC-50 Plus. It has a 10watt laser and some other cool things. It is about twice the price but comes with a bigger laser, air assist, cable management, homing switches, and more.

    Have you ever tried cutting thicker card or grey board?

    • @CNCATHome
      @CNCATHome  11 месяцев назад

      Good question. I have cut a variety of thicknesses from 20# printer paper up to some card stock that was was a couple millimeters thick. I have cut some other colored paper and that did seem to work better. I have some 110# paper that I have cut. The issue is that it is white and it doesn't always like to cut all the way through. Too much reflection off of that bright white paper.

    When cutting paper, is there a way to avoid the black burn marks?

    • @CNCATHome
      @CNCATHome  2 года назад +1

      That is a great question. The best way to avoid the black burn marks is to use a drag knife not a laser. Because of how a laser works, you can't avoid burning the paper as that is how it cuts. You can minimize the scorching and blackening of the burn by using air assist. Air assist helps the laser make a cleaner cut and blows most of the stuff away that causes the scorching around the cut.

      @@CNCATHome even at high speed and lowest.power I think we still cant prevent black burn. Drag knife is good, but cant do many details cut

      @@rory1336 - That is interesting. Paper is very easy to cut when it isn't white. ;-) Too much reflection and not enough absorption of the laser light. White will still burn but at a slower speed and/or higher power. It is a great material to burn with a laser. I am glad that is what you plan to do. Have fun!
