I love that he highlights the EFFICIENCY of the storytelling. Nothing is oversaturated, it shows you all the possible angles of the same events that occur, and it shows how each character reacts to said events.
Another reason Arcane is so deep because the story isn't just told in the writing, everyone was basically allowed to add on to the story. The animators add on to the story, the voice actors added on to the story, and the music added on to the story. The example of the Ashstray is really good, but for me the best example is the Ekko vs Jinx fight on the bridge, it told their full story and dynamic in such a gripping way in under 5 minutes. Its especially really good at nonverbal story telling, which is super fucking impressive for an animated show. Arcane has mastered 'Show, Don't Tell' so well and everyone understood the assignment to its fullest. Hell, even the promotional materials understood the assignment. The Enemy music video adds more depth to Vi and Powder's relationship as well as Ekko and Powder's friendship. During each act, Riot had a website where its themed after a certain character's workspace, like Caitlyn's investigation files, which adds more detail and depth of backgroubd stuff and her thoughts on people and events. Around Act 3, Riot partnered with Secret Cinema to make a set of the Undercity where you can explore and roleplay with actors and it enhances the atmosphere and experience of the show to the people who got to visit.
😂I’m 7:44 minutes in and I’m going to have to stop and start again properly and watch when my mind is ready😂. So much is happening in this inception of videos. 1. Arcane’s team is freaking insane and at this point they might just be not human. I’m thinking extraterrestrial lifeforms🤔
This show is a master class of "show don't tell", I've watched it like 4 times, and I notice something new every time. The parallels with Viktor's backstory, and him finally running for the first time, and overtaking boats in the distance... Chef's kiss. When Echo is spying on Vander and Benzo in EP 1, his little periscope invention looks through the mask he wears later in the series. Echo and Silco both mention that Jayce "didn't even haggle" showing his return to his original values after diverging midway through the series. That's just the tip of the iceberg, there is so much foreshadowing, so many Easter eggs, so much emotion and storytelling just from facial expressions and cracks in voices. It is, by a long shot, some of the best writing I've ever seen in a show- animated or otherwise.
I want to write an essay on the air and water symbolism in Arcane... And also one on perceived identity vs internalized identity. And also one on whether Silco is symbolically the rat or the cat from the shimmer experiment. And ALSO...
I have to say, the animators at Fortiche(the ones who animated Arcane and many of the big League of Legends cinematics like the different Worlds AMVs) are god tier. They don't just animate well, they even are writers too, with how much small details to even the special effects and the sounds add extra depth to the abyss Arcane already is with its overall story and narrative. And I swear, this show has to be set in history and be shown to anyone learning how to make art. It's just way too good not to be used as an example to students in class(and they'll be entertained too).
7:46 about holding the object: every objectif in Arcane is imperfect, in the sense that it is hand drawn. The only thing made to be perfect, a perfect circle made via computer, is the stabilized hex ball. This is symbolic in its own way, as the show resolves around the hex ball, which itself symbolises absolute power.
Honestly, having something like arcane happen is exponentially difficult, and the fact we got it once is amazing. IMO, like other people said, arcane tells the story not just in dialogue, visuals, or audio, but in all of them, and, what I find is INCREDIBLY hard and made it so good was the direction. Every person in this understood the tones, themes, story, etc. They added it in a way that played off of one another instead of creating an incongruance. With arcane having dozens of people working on it at any point, the fact that they were able to bring this to life with such cohesion is almost more amazing than the show itself.
@@Steven9567 huh? How does it feel rushed? Literally took them 6 years to make Arcane. And I would say the only plot hole is at the end where they ended in a cliffhanger, and keep in mind season 2 is still on its way.

This is why Arcane is so appreciated, especially as characters are the first thing people see before the story they have to tell. Doing an orbit around the idea of tropes and shooting off far beyond it to make the character so much better. So instead of Vi just being the buff-swol female solving problems with brute force or Jayce just being the rich jock himbo solving things with science and money to fill in character tropes and subvert the type for the sole sake of sending a message, you see how they are getting built up through their experiences (and taking us along with them) to be their own while having secondary effects on others and their experiences. fun fact im the oldest but i see myself more in Powder. I felt like an outsider in my own family and barely felt like i was allowed to be the big sis -only allowed to feel that way when it was necessary for everyone else
I love Arcane. Let's take Sky, some will say she didn't have enough screen time, was a fridged character or not a character at all but a plot device. I disagree, they subtly made her her own character with her own motivations. Her narrative purpose may have been to die to show Viktor he was going too far but we got to see through the flashback she had always been interested in Viktor since childhood. Sky wasn't just a lab assistant crushing on Victor, she also came up from the depths of the undercity to become a scientist and had been working on her own research. Knowing this makes us wish she had more screen time to explore her as a character but she was a real character
Arcane is easily one of the most artistically interesting, uniquely made stories, unique ways of story telling, and most fascinatingly contradicting, yet similar, complex character writing of any movie or show ever made in the history of man-kind. There... I said it!
13:57 You always have to wonder if the writing isn't also just a author/writer stumbling into greatness. The deciding factor to determine this for me, usually relies on the ending. It is one thing to write a good story but it is another to see it through to the end. As we know, a bad ending can really tarnish a story. I am mostly thinking of Isayama with AoT which to me had some of the more brilliant pacing and progression of characters/story i've seen in recent years.................and the ending wasn't that great. Still didn't really detract from the rest of it but kind of soured the whole experience. I'm hoping if/when arcane season 2 happens we can get the same level of excellence.
I rarely comment on youtube but I'll say it. I have much respect for your tastes and have picked up more than one show based off of your tier lists. You recommending arcane put a (biased) bad taste in my mouth BUT, since you also held bojack (one of the best animations ever made) in high regard I decided to give arcane a shot. I went in decided to hate it, sat with a frown and my arms crossed through the first two episodes. Then episode 3 hit. Today I've never rewatched a show more than arcane, I consider it my top 5 visual media ever made (animation or not) and I would just like to give you a heartfelt "thank you" for introducing me to it. I'm itching to keep writing a full disclosure on why the show is amazing but what's the fucking point, we all know why.

fun fact im the oldest but i see myself more in Powder. I felt like an outsider in my own family and barely felt like i was allowed to be the big sis -only allowed to feel that way when it was necessary for everyone else
Schnee is great! I love his videos. Would love to see you react to his video on how Arcane writes women!
Knowing this makes us wish she had more screen time to explore her as a character but she was a real character
still waiting for season two
Georgia Dow Arcane psychological analysis is hella good too
It's a thing i noticed kinda for the first time in a film called the gods must be crazy but there it is less efficient and less prominent
Disney needs to sit down and take notes.
Oda really should have watched this video.
Arcane is easily one of the most artistically interesting, uniquely made stories, unique ways of story telling, and most fascinatingly contradicting, yet similar, complex character writing of any movie or show ever made in the history of man-kind. There... I said it!
YEEES Schnee is one of my favourite channels!!! I watched every single video.
Its like poetry it rhymes!
Bro has more videos on arcane then matpat has on fnaf
MY BRAIN! This is insane
Ah, schnee, this guy is very good with his Videos.
I hope you watch more from him.
Sanest league player

It was a tough decision.
02:45 Bro Probably did not watch One Piece XD
I not long finished Better Call Saul and Arcane is still the best writing I have ever seen.
I'm itching to keep writing a full disclosure on why the show is amazing but what's the fucking point, we all know why.
oh hey, it's Schnee. I've seen A LOT of his vids about arcane
