Prof. Kagwanja &Dr Ombongi Ethnic Aristocracies; Intra Kalenjin Elite Alliance &the Moi Presidency

In this presentation the duo will make an attempt at Kenya's presidential history. They will focus on Daniel Arap Moi's Presidency , independent Kenya's second leader by disabusing the notion he had a close knit ethnic block support from among the wider Kalenjin community without fissures. His was an Intra- Kalenjin cabal of functional groups/individuals , with aristocratic pretensions, that jostled persistently for influence and wealth,ornaments of high society in the British historian David Cannadine's words, in ways that made him have a mere veneer of power and hegemony over local aristocracies but in reality suffered from consistent Kalenjin Phobia more than it was ever imagined.
