  • Annnnd....I'm back! Sorry it's been so long and thanks to all that checked in - life has definitely gotten in the way!
Join me and my friend Ben on my first ever canoeing adventure. With forecasted rain and high winds I really wasn't looking forward to it but went along anyway. And boy am I glad that I did because it turned out to be one of the best adventures I've done!
Flat calm sea, glorious sunset and as usual when I'm out in the wilds, I was befriended by the local wildlife. Not to mention the great company and the luxury feast that Ben cooked up for us in the evening. The only downside was having to leave the next morning!
I could have easily cancelled this trip if I'd let my discomfort and fear get in the way and if I had I would have missed out on so much!
Have you ever missed out on something amazing because you let your fears get in the way?

So glad your first paddle was under calm conditions. There is something almost "meditative" falling in to a rhythm as you paddle, listening to nothing but the sounds of nature as the canoe slide through the water. Just letting your thoughts drift wherever, And to be followed by the seals, that's just icing on the cake.

I knew you would get it Doug, being an avid paddler yourself 😁. I’ll need to work up to the epic sort of adventures that you go on though!

I’m sure I saw that plane from Loch Eck. I’d recommend outriggers for a canoe on big water (partly because I’m a wuss and don’t like wobbling about too much). They transform the journey, and providing you can cope with the piss-taking “oh you need stabilisers” digs, take all the stress out of canoeing. Best wishes.

Haha I didn’t even know there was such a thing! I didn’t find it particularly unstable but it was flat calm. I’m not sure I’d feel the same if there was a bit of a wind! Thanks for the tip! 😁

Hi Fiona. Missed you mate, hope you're well. Beautiful scenery which takes on a whole different perspective from a boat on a loch. Agree about the peace & contentment which I'm hoping to find over the summer on my hopefully numerous forays into the Lake District hills. Lovely having you back xxx

Great to have you back - Sundays haven't been the same without a jolly taste of the Highlands! Loch Etive is beautiful, and I'm always amazed how little known it seems to be despite being so close to the hordes thundering through Glencoe. I'm also startled at how much luggage it's possible to carry in a canoe. Thanks also for providing evidence that men are the true multi-taskers!

Thanks John, it’s good to be back! Although it was an effort and a half to get here! I won’t be posting videos every week unfortunately, it’s just to difficult to find the time but I’m hoping for one a month! Haha not sure I agree with you about men being multi-taskers but Ben certainly rose to the challenge in this instance! 😅

@@FarForFiona Hi Fiona, if, as I suspect, the RUclips year of adventure is now at an end, I just wanted to say a big thank you for the pleasure you have given through your beautifully produced videos. Each must have taken a lot of time and effort to produce, and it would be no surprise if real life had got in the way - which I hope it has done in good ways! Your traverse of the Aonach Eagach remains my favourite, and reminds me of my long distant and more reckless youth, which seems but yesterday. Stay safe on those hills, have a great Christmas and a prosperous new year. Chee'o, John.

@@jb3222 hi John, lovely to hear from you! I have plans to continue with the adventures next year. Life has definitely gotten in the way but I’m actually studying filmmaking at the moment too so I’m hoping to put some of what I’m learning into my adventure videos. I decided I actually love the whole video making process and not just the adventures so decided to sign up to learn more about it. I will be back! Thank you for sticking around this long! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and new year yourself. Best wishes, fiona 😊

This is home , the village of Taynuilt, with this mighty loch on our doorstep. We paddled up Etive yesterday sussing out a camping spot for next outing and then home in 5 mins 🍀. You launched from Taynuilt, Kelly’s pier, the village of Bonawe is on the other side of the loch 😊
