Nic Ehlers is a freaking badass, he just jumped up so high on my list of favorite players. That level of respect and awareness in a moment like that speaks volumes of his character.
That hit on Evans and the way he laid lifelessly on the ice actually made me nauseous. One of my favourite Habs. It’s his birthday too… just brutal. My heart breaks for him.
Ehlers is a legend in my eyes after this. Such a classy human being. All the BS going on and he's protecting the injured player for the other team. Not all heroes wear capes, some wear #27 for the Jets.
The Jets should take Scheifele's "A" and give it to Ehlers. We saw who really deserves it last night. You gotta love people from Denmark. They really know what's important in life.
I saw a bunch of birthday love for Evans just a few hours before the game on Twitter. A sad end to the day. And yet another victory for Montreal that is unenjoyable. But Happy birthday!
Scheifele absoultely has a history of playing dirty and being a sore loser and having anger issues. No previous suspension history but he does have a history of being a dirtbag.
I have new respect for Ehlers. He’s #27 (just above the linesman and Evans when he’s down) and he was holding the scrum back with his whole body trying to protect Evans.
This has been said a lot, but props to Ehlers in that situation. I saw a couple of stills on that, and he looks like a dam trying to hold back a wall of water. I look at that picture and the contrast I draw in my mind is a picture from the 2018 playoffs, second round, Game three Washington at Pittsburgh, and the picture of the Caps bench yukking it up after That Punk Wilson launched his shoulder into ZAR, giving him a concussion and a broken jaw. Those two pictures, side by side show a remarkable contrast in the amount of character shown by one player compared to another.
A lot of flashbacks to Dale Hunter on Pierre Turgeon. Scheifele had less time to react, but he also knew darn well what he was doing. Should be out rest of series at minimum.
What's so sad about all of this is that Evans is really coming into his own as a player and now he's had a few head injuries in the past 2-3 years. This might affect his health and career. Hopefully that's not the case.
Joel Edmundson when asked about the Scheifele hit: “If he gets back in the series, we're going to make his life miserable. But I think the league's going to do a good job with that." What a response. I’ve seen some think his implication was that they’ll retaliate, but it seemed to me like he meant they’ll frustrate and stifle Scheifele just as much as they did tonight. Great defence. Two great assists too.
I wonder if he felt the same when he played for the St Louis head hunters on their cup run? Rich coming from him. Bad hit, bad outcome. Scheif isn't a dirty player. Shit happens. He'll get a suspension. Drop the gloves and move the fuck on.
@@RandomGuyCDN Weber won’t. Edmundson or Chiarot will. Edmundson stood to Myers after he targeted Armia’s head earlier this season. The league best keep Scheifele out of this series, but knowing them, he’ll get 2-3 games at most. Personally, I just want Habs to win this series. When the series is burried, THEN aim for Scheifele’s head. What a fucking POS.
Not a Jets fan, but as of tonight, I'm a Ehlers fan. While his teammates and the Habs were all looking for dance partners, he had the presence of mind to protect Evans. How much worse could that situation had been if a player had fallen on Evans? Respect.
I like Ehlers 10000 times more after seeing what he did during the scrum. MY PERSONAL RANT: Also, what was Scheifele thinking? Seriously, he did this out of frustration and he used no brain to react to the empty net goal. That’s just a trash hit and a pathetic way to respond to adversity. It’s absolutely SPINELESS AND NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE SHOULD START GIVING HIM OR ANYONE PASSES. I hope the league brings more accountability here. I’m so tired of seeing players that deserve punishment get a pass for a boneheaded play. So now the standard according to George spineless Parros is target a player that scored an empty netter because you’re soft and have zero maturity?? This is a WTF moment He needs to be done for the series or I will want Parros’ head Prayers up to Jake Evans The Jets have just poked the French Bear known as Le Habs.
One of the most human, classy acts I’ve ever seen in sports, let alone hockey. What a difference between him and the Jets captain, right? His regard for human safety, and Scheifeles complete lack of it. Fucking puke
That was the ugliest hit I’ve seen in a hockey game. Looked like he had intent to injure out of frustration. Completely agree should be a suspension and possible fine. I pray he recovers from that, he did a backwards somersault he was hit so hard..seriously hope he’s okay. 😬
That hit by Scheifele was one of the most gutless things i've ever seen and he didnt appear to give a shit, he might just have ended Evans' career. Not only that but incredibly selfish and might cost the team the series if he's out long. As a Jets fan i've lost a lot of respect for him.
It seems like we're in a fantasy world right now because everyone is rooting for the Habs now. People wanted to see the Leafs get humiliated and everyone wants the Jets to pay for Schiefle's psychotic BS.
Problem I have with your comment is loosing your respect for schieflee considering how good of a guy he is and how much he loves playing for our franchise oh well he made a brutal play that was uncalled for it happens I bet u have lost your shit before and did something bad and regretted it that’s brutal of u to say
@@djkruse6056 what really makes me lose respect for him is the fact its so uncharacteristic of him, it makes it so much more dissapointing. I get the guy is frustrated but its a long series and he should know better. That play benefits no one but himself. This is the kind of play I expect from someone like Tom Wilson, not Scheif
an absolutely classless move by scheifele. A high hit with a complete disregard for the puck, while gunning straight for Evans. Hoping he gets well soon 🙏🙏🙏
Montreal, tends to have 'other 'ways of 'getting even' in the past, usually, this meant they would get very angry, and play harder the next game, to kick the other teams butt, on the scoresheet, as their way of getting back at someone, and leave any payback for the regular season. I'm hoping that is the case in the next game. So my message to the habs is, get mad, use that anger to focus on your skills and beat them on the score sheet, it's what I would do.
Major props to Ehlers for holding everyone back to make sure Evans didn't get hurt worse when there was the scrum after the hit and call for help even to his team's doctor. I may have lost some respect for his teammate and his team by association, I have become a fan of Ehlers. My thoughts and prayers are with Jake Evans and hope he is okay. I hope Montreal can make the Semifinals now in his honor.
I'm a Jets fan and that hit from Scheifs was uncalled for. Dunno what kind of suspension he'll get, but he deserves it. Evans was knocked out cold on impact...before he flew through the air and landed on his face. It looked bad. Scheifs didn't have to throw that hit. There are two "versions" of the Winnipeg Jets: 1) The version that can win any night against any team. 2) The "stupid" version that shoots themselves in the foot and is their own worst enemy. The "stupid" version of the Jets showed up tonight. The "stupid" was so evident that I burst out laughing when Perreault got into a chirp-fest with Perry (Perry was on the bench) and Perreault wasn't ready for the puck drop. That's all the evidence anyone needed to see that the Jets didn't have their heads in the game. Here's hoping the Jets pull their heads out of their asses in game 2, 3, 4 and 5. Go Jets Go and stop shooting yourselves in the foot.
It's such a frustrating way to end what was an an otherwise incredibly fun game of hockey. A dirty play by Scheifele, and I'm not even all that surprised. He was playing hot all 3rd period and you could tell he was out for blood. As a coach, you need to make sure you reel the guy in before you send him out or you're just asking for something bad to happen. Kudos to Ehlers being a great guy. I'm hoping we get some clean hockey moving forwards. This promises to be a great series! Go Habs go!
@@pale_saint Exactly. There was NO attempt to stop the shot. And he had a chance to...he was out for blood, and seeing red. I like Scheifele (less now...I'm a Habs fan, but I think even most Jets fans are shaking their heads at this hit...I know if Perry did something similar, I'd be furious), but man, that's textbook intent to injure...not just because he made the choice to go for the hit, but because when he saw the shot Evans took, instead of choosing to go for the puck, he decided to commit to the hit...which was technically AFTER the play (which ended with the goal). So he had two opportunities to make a better choice, and didn't. In the regular season, this would be 5+ games. In the playoffs...well, I guess we'll see. 2 at least, although the fact that it wasn't a spur of the moment thing, that he actually went in and made the dangerous play not in service of preventing a goal, but because he was frustrated at not having a great game, could make it 3 or 4. I'd be shocked if it's more than that. The one thing that might shorten any suspension is that as far as I can tell, this is Scheifele's first dirty hit. If this was a Wilson hit, he'd get 8 games.
@@randomonium3742 he didn’t even try to play the puck or poke it away he just steamrolled him. He knew it was going in so he decided to take out his frustrations.
Exactly! Anyone who says otherwise is a moron. He was being a whiny baby all game and punching various Habs etc... He left the ice and hit him right in the head and flipped him onto his fucking neck. He needs to be suspended.

Just came to see if this was up and it was posted 8 seconds ago. Always love your reviews. That Scheifele hit was dirty hoping Evans is okay, it’s his 25th birthday today
Dude! Never trust a man that doesn't swear... The pent up rage and anal retention just breaks their brain eventually... They never arrested a swearing serial killer!
I was legitimately scared I was watching someone get paralyzed with the way he just landed right on his head. There's no way Shytlee plays another game this series without some kind of Rangers/Caps style retribution.
Why do all Edmonton fans always talk down about every good player that isn’t on the oilers? Marks hit was dirty, doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. And on top of that, I’m pretty sure this is one his first dirty hits.
I think Edmundson said '' we're gonna make his life miserable '' about Scheifele And I think that means prevent him from making plays or scoring; pretty much like what they did to Auston Matthews :P
Are you a total fucking idiot? You seen Weber? You think the plan is "solid defense"? If he plays one shift in this series I fully expect Weber to injure him then eat him with a side of fries in the penalty box.
10,000 IQ play from Scheifele. They can’t make his life miserable if he’s suspended the whole series In all seriousness, what got into him in this game? Even ignoring the hit he was just skating around looking for shit to start
I downloaded a clip of the hit and played it in Media Player Classic in slo-mo and frame-by-frame. There is no doubt, Sheifele left his feet to make the hit and Evans took an elbow to the face. It was a clear attempt to injure. Making things worse is that the hit occurred after the puck went in the net and the play was dead. At that point, ANY hit would have been illegal. Sheifele's season should be over for this because if Parros doesn't do it, Weber will.
I thought that looking back after the hit happened that he was getting out of control and frustrated that he and his team was losing after the extended rest and the penalty that got called on him. This was a good win by Montreal, but that is not what anyone will remember first about this game.
Hoping for a speedy recovery for Evans. The Habs look SO good right now and they’re playing such good hockey. I hope they go all the way, especially after this.
I’m Finnish and I always hope the best for Finnish players but the fact that Jesperi has scored nicely in playoffs still doesn’t redeem 2 shitty regular seasons he’s had
Sam Bennett syndrome: sucks in regular seasons, scores half a goal a game in playoffs. Can also be cured by change of scenery, I guess. Though I doubt Habs are going to trade him.
@@pale_saint Habs have done a horrible job developing KK. Did a number on his confidence. Never played him with offensive players. I mean he sat on a third line with Lehkonen and Armia for 2 and a half years lol.
Not even trying to burst the bubble but no it probably won’t be dangerous to have them more if a purpose. They won’t make it past Colorado if they even get that far
I Saw it after i heard my dad Shout, We saw the replays, AND The one with sound, that was DISGUSTING, Hopefully Jake is fine, even did the thumbs up like tavares luckily.. But I lost a lot of respect for Sheifele, Would hope he gets suspended, but knowing the league he'll get like 5k fine or 1-2 games at most. Hopefully he's gone the rest of the series!
Evans seems like such a good kid too. In a mic'd up video that the NHL posted on Twitter today, you hear him cheerily say "Thank you very much!" to Price in the line at their net after the Game 7 win. Ughhhhh.
It is his 25th birthday scoring his first playoffs goal. I don’t think he needed to chase so hard for that loose puck but he did. Because he wanted a goal to celebrate. Too bad his career might be over since he already had several concussions before this.
Alot of people really counted out the habs, price, and the power of Suzuki. Also Ehlers is cool Evans could of died and it better be atleast five games for schiefle or however you spell it he doesn't deserve it to be spelled right tonight.
you are so right Scheifele does not deserve anything anymore at all, his name spelled right, his dignity, respect, his paying career in the NHL , his salary, or his name on a NHL pay check DRUG TEST his ass
He should get the series, he had no intentions on breaking up the goal he slowed down to line up a hit and left his feet to drive through his head undoubtedly taking him out for the rest of the series
If Scheifele somehow still plays at some point in this series he better keep his head up. The habs will hunt him down. Shea Weber in particular was absolutely furious. Hope Evans will recover well.
I like Scheifele, think he's a great player, but what he did to Evans when the game was basically done was pretty gutless. It took out the air and the energy from what was otherwise a great hockey game. Respect to Ehlers for making sure the scrum didn't spill over onto Evans and linesman Kiel Murchison for making sure Evans' head wasn't being moved until the trainer hustled over there.
Ugly doesn’t do the Scheifele hit justice. He should get 5, at least. I don’t care if that’s a lot for the playoffs. That standard should apply to anyone who does a chicken shit play like that in a game they won’t win. That’s entirely unacceptable. Props to Ehlers for protecting Evans from the scrum. I hope he recovers soon, he’s played fantastic.
This is the modern version of the Dale Hunter/Pierre Turgeon hit. A hit so dirty and so unsportsmanlike that it completely ruins the reputation of an otherwise really good player. When people think of Schiefle in the future, this will most likely be the first thing people think about. Just like Hunter. Absolutely disgusting.
If Schieffle was trying to prevent a goal, he could have. Reach out with the stick and keep the puck out. He decided to run the guy. I won't go as far as to say intent to injure, because you don't always think about those things in the moment -- but his mission was to run the guy over. He should be held accountable.
.Jesus. Habs must be just appalled after going through the Tavares thing which was disturbing for both sides, you could see it affected Perry for the first half of the series. Now game one in this series and that happens. And this time it is deliberate. Makes it so much worse. I hope this series doesn’t get out of hand because game one was pretty great, goaltending battle was intense, young guns stepping up once again for Montreal. Let us enjoy the series, get him out of there
That's how we taught Ehlers here in Halifax! My thoughts are with Evans. And honestly I wish they'd just get rid of hitting in hockey. They don't have it in the women's game and it's wonderful.
Anyone remember the NSH vs DET series in 2012 when Weber grabbed Zetterberg by the head and smashed him into the glass? I bet you that's what he's going to do to Scheifele whenever he gets the chance.
Let’s start with the fact that the Rangers were correct in thinking DOPS is a joke. I think it’s time for suspension when it’s pretty clear that a player intended to injury that the suspension should include the time the injured player is out plus the suspension. If they’re truly serious about safety this is a real deterrent
@@evanoscherwitz1434 all of your respect? Really? Overdramatic. Mark Scheifele has played over 500 games in the NHL, with a clean reputation, and you are going to lose all respect on one bad hit? Habs fans have gotten so soft.

Nothing happened for him because Perry scored and wasn't injured, but it was still a horrible move from Stanley... Oh and also, great sportmanship move by Ehlers, great guy!

What a game by the Habs tonight. I don't know if the Jets though they would have an easy time against the Habs, but they really hit a wall. Suzuki and KK are such great playoff performers. Corey Perry is such an absolute legend. Man took an elbow to the face just to complete a pass. And then what was going to be the highlight of the night. Shae Weber getting a breakaway lmao My takeaway from the series so far: If Hellebuyck doesn't up his game starting game two, the Jets are going to be a lot easier to out than the Leafs.
The hit was one off the most violent I've seen in a very long time. On top of that NBC had to keep running the tape over and over again. Can't imagine his family having to watch that. That was totally uncalled for. Hope that he's OK
It’s hard on the family that’s for sure. And boy a lot have struggled through mental health to these days. Who knows what’s going on in their personal lives
I liked scheifele but man what he did to chiarot ( ppl not mentioning that enough) and mainly evans ofc is just so uncalled for. Definitely deserves few games at least. Acting like an idiot out there losing his cool hitting defenseless players when the puck is in the net smh.
Might sound extreme but any player that does something like that shouldn't be allowed to play hockey ever again. The next time they do it they may very well break someones neck. The game was literally over with no chance for them to win. It's one thing to hit a guy when it has a bearing on the play, and on the game. This was just a classless and trashy hit on a defenseless player. Unacceptable. It's time for NHL player safety to set a new precedent. This kind of indefensible behavior must be eradicated. I'm getting really tired of seeing life-threatening injuries. Hockey is not fun to watch when players are being knocked unconscious for literally no reason.

That hit was premeditated intent to injure. The league doesn’t have the balls to handle the suspension properly then take it into the players hands. You don’t get away with almost murdering someone. His career his livelihood could have and still could be over. Scheif needs to be suspended harshly regardless of history for his safety and the safety of the rest of the players on both teams.
And sadly people are defending the hit saying people involved in hockey are getting soft. I have played for 20 years, and I do look for players with heads down. That stated, I've never skated full speed 100+ feet down the ice to injure a player and when a player is in an extremely vulnerable position I let up because it's the right thing to do. I defended the Graves hit and don't think his hit was dirty in the slightest. Scheiffle's was just awful.
Scheifele lost is mind during the game ,before the Evans incident ,he tried to hurt Chiarot while he was down on the ice . He clearly went for Evans head , Scheifele should get 10 games suspension for that dumb and dangerous hit ,but it's the NHL so it's gonna be 1 or 2 game max.
If Scheifele was *actually* interested in preventing that goal, he would've done something like what Ryan Graves did a couple weeks ago. You know, like actually doing everything in your power to poke the puck off his stick before it crosses the line?
Today was his birthday too. I really hope he comes back to his old self... plays like that have a way of changing players... sometimes ending their career altogether.
No excuse for the MS hit. At the end of the day he has to realize that he's a 200+ lb man skating full speed down the length of the ice and Evans is about to be in a vulnerable position. The potential damage that he could do to Evans has to be part of the almost-instantaneous calculation that surely took place in his mind before committing to the hit. Scary and disappointing that he chose to commit rather than ABORT.
he realized it and easily could have got a stick on the puck if he wanted to make a play on the puck, but the guy was frustrated the entire game and was looking for this moment.
Just lost absolutely every ounce of respect for Scheifele I had. I hope he gets 5 games minimum I don't care about any prior suspensions. I hope Weber destroys someone or a few people fair and clean in this series. Much respect to Ehlers for the classy move. Very very disappointed in Sheifele, extremely immature move on his part. Hope Jake Evan's is okay 🙏 Great video once again Shannon!
I love hockey, but plays like that make me want to throw in the towel. If this wasn't a hockey game, that hit would be considered a felony and would put Scheifele in prison! He doesn't deserve to come back for the remainder of the playoffs! That was beyond the scope of the game, and needs to be dealt with accordingly! So sad.
My thoughts are with Evans. Hope he is ok. Always been a Ehlers fan. As per Scheifs, he always complains + whines after been handed a penalty. This time no different and he didn't show any concern for Evans from the replays I saw. His reputation is shot. This was a time for him to put hockey in the backseat.
I mean we kind of saw playoffs getting ugly fast because they played each other at least 9 or 10 times this season, now hey got to face each other again, during the playoffs. I expect lot more fighting
I’m struggling to watch this game and it’s actually a well played game. I just pray pray pray no major injuries happen here with malicious intent. It’s getting out of hand.
I've been a Scheifele fan for a while now. I've seen him get pretty salty and do questionable things in the past when frustrated. But, with the amount of times he was involved in scrums throughout the game and the fact he let his frustration get to the point he made the decision to lay that hit there is no defense for it. It was obvious he was frustrated getting abused all game, but to let that frustration result in such an ugly hit deserves some time off. The real shame is his poor decision is probably going to cost both teams some man-games. Such a bad play by someone obviously frustrated. It really makes you wonder if that hit will cost the Jets any chance in this series.
As a neutral, i know its early but Winnipeg is already done. Could even see Montreal returning the favour with a sweep, or close it out in 5. The team morale in the Habs locker room after the Toronto series and the Evans hit will fire them to a resolute series victory.

There are two "versions" of the Winnipeg Jets:
1) The version that can win any night against any team.

Good on you for pointing out Scheifele's state of mind prior to the hit.

I total misuse of Force. There is no justification for it. The game was already decided.

Ignore them, they’re all Leafs fans.
@@mikejames4691 and the Leafs still suck and are still soft as baby powder
We've seen weber angry as a hab but this was different
Weber was absolutely tilted. The last person you want to make angry is someone who can shoot a vulcanized rubber puck over 100 mph.
I didn’t even wanna watch the Vegas game after that hit. Just left me with a really disgusted feeling.
Exactly my thoughts
I mean we kind of saw playoffs getting ugly fast because they played each other at least 9 or 10 times this season, now hey got to face each other again, during the playoffs. I expect lot more fighting
I’m struggling to watch this game and it’s actually a well played game.
I just pray pray pray no major injuries happen here with malicious intent. It’s getting out of hand.
Same. Can't
That’s the NHL for ya 🙌
Keep protecting dangerous plays and players, and people lose respect for your league.
I understand what Mark was trying to do but he went and did it completely the wrong way. Reach in for the puck, dive, but destroy a guy like that.
As a neutral, i know its early but Winnipeg is already done. Could even see Montreal returning the favour with a sweep, or close it out in 5. The team morale in the Habs locker room after the Toronto series and the Evans hit will fire them to a resolute series victory.
