That's not her father. That guy was some sort of priest which is why she referred to him as "father". Her real father was a ruler and his kingdom was overtaken by Rosaria. Clive's father spared Jill and raised her. Jill's families kingdom was from the north which would indicate some type of kingdom located in a cold/winter area hence Jill having the ice eikon and having greyish hair.

I know like she said “the patriarch” when asking where he was. If it was her father she would’ve just outright asked “where’s my father” it’s established her kingdom was destroyed and as an act of benevolence Clive’s dad took her in. Her real family is most likely dead cause of the blight
@@afkmh2392 No that is not the reason she bacame a ward of house Rosfield. She was made a ward as part of an olive branch between Rosaria and the northern territories to ensure the peace is upheld. Since she is a princess it is pretty much a bargaining chip the Duke could use to negotiate with rivals and political enteties that could prove difficult to influence without such a tool. The Duke was planning the entire time to expand his sphere of influence in order to execute the emancipation of the bearers throughout the realm. This was also one of the key reasons anabella decided to betray Elwin. She feared losing her influence and authority when the realm fought back and ostracized Rosaria. She feared that more than anything and she deemed Joshua to be unfit to defend Rosaria in the conflict Elwin was instigating. This is also the reason she grew to vehemently despise the branded. Because if Clive had not been born a branded and become the chosen of the Phoenix the duchy would not have to relly on a frail boy of only 10 summers to defend the duchy.

Jill is a great character. This was an epic fight but i do wish we got to swap perspectives and play as Jill/Shiva if only for this fight

She was one of Top Dangerous Eikon during her Prime and wages war against everyone to point where they had to a held a meeting with Odin about what to do with her and Iron-blood Clan. They were so scare of her to point of not sure whether or not Titan would beat her, that's why they hesitant to send him out and had to ask Odin for help.
The only reason we see her in weaken state because Jill was on verge of succumbing to petrifaction curse and was practically overused and never got a chance to properly rest like other Dominants.
Did you see other Dominants have special agents (Clive) send out to go after them like they did with Shiva? NO, you don't. Because other Dominants were much tame or less of a threat compare to Shiva that Conquered many regions until she lost to Titan due to Jill being in extreme weaken state and after this mission, she had to rest for 2 or 3 more main quest before following Clive again.
@@austinjt4264 Ok you say all of this but his point still stands, she never actually wins anything of importance to the story that WE see, and its annoying as a player to see her take a backseat. And half of what you said is entirely conjecture and head cannon.
@@Ayeato Do you even played the Game? Or you somehow miraculously missed part where Shiva conquering nearly half of the map?
They hold a meeting on how to stop her... and didn't even try to sent Titan to fight her OUT OF FEAR that he might not be enough.
Clive teams, specifically send to kill her because SHE WAS THAT DANGEROUS. Do you see anyone try to kill any other Eikon?
The conjecture & head cannon is YOUR OWN PROJECTION based on a Weak-almost petrified Jill! She coughing up blood and Titan was in Prime Physical form that probably succeeding that of Clive's.
Phoenix is also, isn't winning against anyone... do you consider him weak as well? Because according to Odin's own word when Josh try to get Clive out of the conflict, Odin said "Powers, beyond Reckoning! Yet they used it as Crutches".
I mean, to be consider as "Beyond Reckoning" by the mighty Odin himself, and to be able trap Ultima... does that mean anything at all?
So, is the Phoenix weak too, or what? If I am remember, he lost from Start to The End of the game.... same as Shiva.

Considering Jill is with Clive for longer than pretty much any other character in the game, I kind of wish she had been allowed to shine in more than just this arc. Her fierceness really caught me off-guard here because, for the first 20 hours of the game, she hardly ever had anything interesting to say (aside from the occasional heartfelt talk with Clive) and felt like she was mostly just... there, without any real need to be. And she more or less went back to that after the Iron Kingdom section was over. It seems wrong that in a 40-hour game, a character who has so much screentime is only interesting for a small two-hour segment.
Completely agree. Jill as a character has sooo much potencial, but whomever wrote or directed her in the game pretty much wasted it… I can only hope maybe they’ll release a dlc with deeper insight in her past and personality
Agreed, that’s one of the criticisms that the game got. Very little development for female characters
@@artianna85 To be honest, I think there was a general issue with a lot of the characters, not only the women. The game has very "Chosen One" energy where Clive has to be the center of the universe and most of the characters feel like they mainly exist as either supports for him or as obstacles for him to overcome.
Jill and Benedikta though, I think, do fall into some tired tropes all too common for female characters in particular --- the passive love interest and the unhinged femme fatale. All the ingredients were there for them to rise above those tropes and be something more, but I felt like the creators just didn't make much room for it. Even during the Iron Kingdom section, Jill didn't get to do a lot during the fight and Imreann's death was just sort of handed to her on a silver platter at the end. Given that we got to take control of Joshua as Phoenix, I would have loved getting to play as Shiva for the Liquid Flame fight, but alas...
@@supremeoverlorde2109 yes I felt the same about other supporting characters. However, as a woman, I was expecting more from the female leads. Clive is great but I felt Benedickta’s downfall and Jill’s solitude needed more of a backstory and further development. Hope they can fix this in some future DLC.
@@artianna85 Some DLC for them would be nice, although at this point I think it would be too little, too late for me, as far as doing right by their characters goes. Sometimes it seemed like they would have Jill get sidelined or kidnapped because they didn't know what else to do with her. And sadly, Benedikta's entire story, while tragic, felt more like a way to prop Cid and turn Hugo to madness than anything else. As much as I'd like to see the developers do more with them, I can't think of anything that would make what we've already gotten less frustrating.
Jill is thee biggest underrepresented character in the gaaaaame! She's literally Shiva's Dominant but yet Torgel gets more battle representation than her (not that I don't love the bestest boy but STILL lol). I was really hoping for some like... Ifrit and Shiva tag teaming badassary combat buuuut no. Huge L. Still 10/10 game though, I just wish they did more with Jill other than just shoving her into the "damsel in distress" box
It's really a shame we couldn't have an ice sword power.
Basically, Shiva's dominant, Jill, won too many wars, was on 9% battery when all of these were happening

Hopefully the DLC shows Jill/Shiva stronger. Sick of JRPG's making the women weak. Shiva is an ICON. She can hold her own. They didnt need to take her powers. Shiva should have been in that final fight.

I like how the Liquid Flame has the same soundtrack as Typhon, as if to imply that every Mother Crystal has a fragment of Ultima in it.

I love Jill and shiva is one of my favorite summons from the whole entire FF series (I’ve been playing it since the 90s ) but it’s a disappointment that she’s the weakest Eikon & Dominant in this game.
Very weak compared to the others. They should have given her more screentime and time to shine/ show er real power

Clearly u haven't played the game she was literally far from the weakest eikon she was able to hold off titan while already being weak ended becuase they was using her as a weapon to win wars while the other eikons turned at will or ruled they own land she had it rough yet still held her own on e ery since Glenn occasions and I beat the game btw lol😂😂
@@Dakingalbert2 you wrote an entire rant for nothing! 😂🤦🏽♂️ I never said she was weak at all, but her and Garuda are the weakest in the game compared to the others! Titan could of killed her if he really wanted to, TWICE. She’s not beating any of the other dominants in a 1V1 fight. And why was she struggling against liquid flame? I understand that Clive is the main character & all but this was suppose to be her little redemption chapter.
And there’s no proof that Jill was weak before she fought Titan. She was weak after she fought Titan because she lost! And they were forcing her to continue to fight after she lost.
I head-canon it as it being because most of the other dominants have time to rest and lead generally good lives, while Shiva and Ramuh are both suffering from the curse on their bodies, either because of age or using, whether by their own will or not, their powers too much. I can only assume heaving actual rest and leading a comfortable life is the reason why Hugo, Benedikta and Barnabas are also healthy. (At least when we see them in bed. No idea how Barnabas is after the time skip) I know that at least one other Dominant has some curse build up as well, but I haven't battled that one yet, so no idea if this is an acceptable explanation :v

shiva is generally a early game summon, good status effects or whatever, but lacks power
also.... there is a reason narratively correct? she is a "kept" summonor. i dont know in their world what they would need to do to boost their powers (outside the game logic) but she clearly didnt have the chance or just didnt
@@vissermatt1058 thanks for the explanation, however if you compare shiva from ffxv she literally beat ifrit himself, compared to the current shiva this is far below even against an enemy like the liquid flame monster
@@ruddylara5517 i can agree somewhat. ifrit and shiva generally have some weird rivalry or love scenario written into their non-existent ever changing lores between the games.
ifrit is the mc this time around, whether it makes sense or not for their rivalry. she is somewhat strong and effective for a decade, and then ifrit powers up and blasts past her into the stratosphere due to mc syndrome = plot protection
i think the author + devs could have maybe done more for her besides being the obvious heroine/love interest... but as far as i can tell, a lot of the eikon fights are cinematic marvels... that defy logic as well the games internal concepts. like the ifrit vs titan fight.... sure the mc wins... but like titan proves that he could have destroyed the planet? like how do any other nation exist, they should all be agree to weird peace treaties to NEVER fuck with him... and shiva.... her nation lost her war, and she was raised by an enemy nation since a young age. i wonder how powerful the previous summonors/dominants of shiva were?
@@ruddylara5517 Right? she was struggling with liquid flame which isn't even an Eikon and the game was supposed to be showing us that Eikons are to be feared because of their immense power?, look at how Garuda almost created an apocalypse just by herself letting lose but here Shiva is like struggling so hard, her Diamond dust didn't even really make a dent it just stops the spread of the lava, Diamond Dust is her Ultimate attack for cryin out loud and it looks like a bigger blizzaga lol.

if you are in a kingdom with an eikon of ice you are screwed big time! Shiva is so weak that they might as well not have one.
To be fair I can somewhat understand why Shiva is so weak at this point especially compared to Ifrit. The Dominants bodies break down when they use their power too much right? She was a slave used as a weapon constantly against her will for 13 years. That's a lot of built up damage on her body which would probably weaken her long term. Clive just recently awakened Ifrit and was raised a soldier. Makes sense his body would be stronger and have much less damage accumulated. That's not counting Ifrit has always been wicked strong or the MC plot armor.
I wish they would've developed her more instead of just having her be clouds plus 1, she could've been much more especially with being Shivas dominant

If they keep using their powers they get weak; crystal’s curse. Dominants are still bearers but stronger. Jill became a slave and was used as a weapon until Clive rescued her.
@@capala1234 Does the curse stop once the crystals are broken? Is there a explanation for the existence of that curse?
@@efaristi9737 if I’m not wrong, the crystals draw magic from the aether around them that is why the world is corroding. Bearers draw magic from within themselves that’s why they become petrified if they keep using their powers. I’m not sure whether destroying the mothercrystals will break the curse as I have not reached that part yet in the game. The gods are involved somehow and I’m excited to figure out what’s going to happen:

I thought Aether was the stream of life in FF? Why does he think it's a aberration if it's the source of life iself? Of his life.

Jill wasn't able to help during the Bahamut fight because of this scene. The curse is spreading on her body (turning to a stone) that's why she is told not to transform into Shiva anymore and only use its basic powers.
Bahamut outclassed both Ifrit and Pheonix, where they needed to fuse just to beat him. Shiva wouldn’t have made much difference, Bahamut and Odin are clearly a cut above the rest.
@@aileene-ez9gx So, for all intents and purposes, they turned her from a badass to a damsel in distress that can barely do anything or else her curse screws her over.
@@AzureRoxe yeah that is the problem most fans like me would like them to improve next time. Imagine we're with Jill like 80% of the game only to throw her out of the final battle for plot armor

But I do felt that Shiva in this game was weak. But I guess it tied to Jill being weak too, physically.

It's FF16 and I'm confused to why you feel the need to explain that all FF worlds are different.
But the point is... All summons seemed to retained their Ranks.
For Example... Bahamut is seemed to be Top or in this case, he's a bit lower than Odin.
And Shiva is amongst the most powerful in FF16 too... because if you pay attention, you'd know she wreck havoc across the land to point where they had to held a meeting to discuss on how to handle her. And they even feared that Titan might not beat her.
If Jill weren't being overly used and never had time recovered, if she in her true physical Prime, her summon might have been One of The Top 3. Not to mention she can revive herself like Phoenix!

I find it weird that game journalists have referenced jill in their rants about ff 16 adhering to female stereotypes. I mean sure her ekon isn't much to write home about compared to the others. But i wouldn't really say that she's the stereotypical helpless damesel considering she clearly has the strength and resolve to do what's necessary. Nor does she come off as a manipulative and needlessly vindictive femme fatale archetype. She's more or less her own character and in my opinion a very interesting one at that. Now if they made that argument with Benedicta then there wouldn't be much arguing considering she matches both the femme fatale stereotype, damsel in distress stereotype, and entitled twat stereotype. There's literally nothing to Benadictas character that we haven't seen a thousand times before. Honestly Benadicta got boring stale the from the the first scene.
We can already see other imperfections in the graphics. How perfect would be the next next gen consoles?

FF14 she is a boss you have to beat. In FF 10 she appears as a black esper, an optional boss fight.
This is just like Naruto asking the Nine Tails for power. Everything about this current XVI screams Naruto and their Hosts. And the final fusion (what Ultima is trying to seek) is the 10 tails.

i mean jill holds her own against the liquid flame, titan, and odin. i think it's more mechanics since you really only control clive
@@netkittenJill did not hold her own against any of the people you listed. She loses to Odin, cannot beat Titan at the start of the game, and was struggling against Liquid Flame and held back the lava while Clive did the work.
@@Dzzy123 Liquid Flame was basically a dormant Ultima and Clive couldn't beat Odin at first either. Titan is also one of the strongest Eikons, too. Clive had the power of three Eikons when he beat Titan.
just a shame they "softened" what happened to her and the captees for the overly sensitive western audiences with the English dub
