Linda Ronstadt, 100 million records sold, classically trained, country/rock cross over, bi-lingual, Mexican heritage, sold out performances of her special "Canciones' de Mi Padre" (Songs of My Father) in Mexico, amazing production! Hope you find time to react to some of her music from that.
To say Linda Ronstadt is amazing is an understatement of the first order. Thank you for a wonderful reaction.

Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "You're No Good", "Long, Long Time", "Don't Know Much", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. You might also enjoy her collaborations with "Dolly Parton" & "Emmylou Harris". They did a few albums together called "Trio" in 1987 & 1999.

She has earned 11 Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award. Many of her albums have been certified gold, platinum or multiplatinum in the United States and internationally. How many awards do you have? In 2013, after years of struggling with her vocals, Ronstadt was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. However, she later learned that she actually had a Parkinson’s-like disorder called progressive supranuclear palsy.

Haha, Thomas, you must be new here, we often say we have zero talent and the scores are just our scores for a bit of fun and are no way related to the talent, but just our thoughts on hearing that particular song for the first time.
Also, we have no idea what we are talking about.
You are free to score it anyway you see fit.
Our main goal here is to discover artists and songs we have never hear of before and expand our musical knowledge and share our thoughts and musings along the way.
      All the best

BAH-you ... did you ever see the movie, The Waterboy, one of Adam Sandler's best? The Louisiana marshy, woodsy, wetland area where the Waterboy (Adam Sandler) lived, is a bayou area. What they ate in the movie (baby alligators, etc.) presumes a river is nearby, which would be the bayou proper. So you'll find a bayou in Louisiana, and possibly other states with that weather and marshy terrain.

Linda ronstadt really shows off her voice in the Pirates of Penzance operata poor lonely One.
Trio was a special project that took the three star friends ten years to legally allow an album. Dolly parton, emmy lou harris, and linda ronstadt went for folk / Appalachian country style to honor Dolly and won a Grammy for the effort. Ironically linda loved singing harmony and was thrilled to not sing lead on most of the songs.

A bit more information: "She was awarded the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by the Latin Recording Academy in 2011 and also awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy in 2016. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2014. On July 28, 2014, she was awarded the National Medal of Arts and Humanities. She has lent her voice to over 120 albums and has sold more than 100 million records, making her one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. Christopher Loudon, of Jazz Times, wrote in 2004 that Ronstadt is "blessed with arguably the most sterling set of pipes of her generation.""

@@lnl3237 The outdoor Universal Amphitheater was perfectly intimate for an evening, autumn, superstar concert, holding 5200 people in the form of a C with the stage at the opening of the C. Our seats were about 30 ft away from Linda stage left but still a little in front of the stage. There were two large speakers, one at each end of the stage. We could hear her clear voice perfectly from our speaker as though we were wearing right-eared headphones. "Blue Bayou" was a new song for her and was of course spectacular. She sang for about an hour and a half or so and when she reached "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me" toward the end of the concert, it carried me completely away. I was 21 and fully in love with her by the end if I wasn't before. And Linda in that Cub scout uniform . . . I think you can imagine.
She sold out 12 concerts there which was a new record, beating the old record of seven. Linda was 31 (looked 25) and was at the height of her powers.

I've seen still photos from this concert but there's no video, so thank you again for taking the time to describe what it was like to be there. I was an uncool teen/twenty something in the 70's and 80's and just spun my vinyls up in my room. Good reaction! I think you're right about the mike topping out, I recall her doing light opera with Pirates of the Pentzance and she had no limits. She has a 3-octave voice from contralto, to mezzo soprano to soprano.
Saw a review which had her vocals separated from the track atd tracked on pitch monitoring software and the reviewer was raving about have accurate her voice was with regard to accuracy, timber, tone, pitch and vibrato. Had no idea. Just thought she was a lovely girl with beautiful eyes who haunted my dreams.

Linda is one of the best, and most versatile, singers ever. It's not often mentioned by we Yanks, but you Brits might enjoy one of her best performances from her starring role in "Pirates of Penzance" on Broadway: "Poor Wandering One," ruclips.net/video/RfjAJn4SC-w/видео.html

I get a picture of her being in Bayou Country. Or leaving her love in Bayou Country. Watching the fishing boat go out & then come back in afternoon. You should do some of Linda's Spanish tunes. They are great. Of course it helps to understand Spanish. There are some palm trees where they have bayous BTW. Linda also at one time, was considered 'Outlaw Country'.

I know that BP1 said he did not really get into Country Music, but the fact is that the songs from the end of the 1960s on until about 1980 you had song writers who were masters of using song title in various ways. For example there are the hit song by the Kendalls--Heaven's Just a Sin Away, It Don't Feel Like Sinnin' To Me, and Pittsburg Stealers these songs gave you the impression they were going to be about one thing, but then became something else. As for Linda she became known as the COVER Queen since her hits--like this one--were covers of songs by other artists--Smokey Robinson's Tracks of My Tears; Martha and the Vandellas--Heatwave, Hank Williams'--I Can't Help It, and of course the mega hit by the Eagles 'Desperado'.

Hey, BP 1...if you're picturing palm trees & hula skirts you're picturing the tropics or Polynesia. When listening to a song about a bayou try picturing Spanish Moss hanging off trees & swamplands...the sounds of tree frogs, crickets & night birds.
Seriously, it's a whole different feel...the Deep South, Louisiana etc.
And if you're not familiar with Spanish Moss, Google images of it. It's beautiful by day, a bit spooky by night.
    Very atmospheric.
For more Linda, I think you'd both like "Desperado" & "Long Long Time"..both so beautiful.
And "You're No Good" for something more up tempo.
    Love you both!
    Warm regards from Kentucky U.S.

After seeing this response to the greatest female vocalist of all time, I can see why she was not popular in the UK. Her Blue Bayou only hit #40 there. She sold very little albums in the UK, and based on this review I can see why. To think the mike was overloaded and not her very powerful voice, tells you about their level of vocal appreciation. Also, here in the US almost no one remembers Roy Orbison's version of Blue Bayou, and everyone that has hear Linda knows about her rendition of it, and it has become her song. anything under a rating of at least 9.5 is an utter disgrace! I wonder what female singer they think is better!

That's probably a pedal steel guitar. A lap steel guitar is a simpler instrument designed to be played on your...wait for it....lap.
Linda has vocal chops for miles. The first time I heard "Different Drum" on the radio I was sold.
