BMX (This is for bmx peeps only) 8:00 Talked about bmx bottom bracket sizes. THIS HELP ME SO MUCH. Ive been searching and searching but i couldnt find a good explanation but this is spot on! Thank youuu
Thank you Alf I wish I could have watched this before I ordered all my parts but I did research on the cranks and bb I was using before I ordered luckily
I should of watched that video before buying all my parts for my Zircus frame. I didn’t even know what an Euro bb is until I watched the video. Thank you master 🙏🏼
This is THE most informative video I've watched when it comes to bottom brackets and spindles. You just taught me so much awesome info and gave me answers to questions I've spent literal days sweeping the internet for!!! Fucking love you dude 🤙🏻
Same here I got the conversion cups and my first new 3 piece were the primo dog bone or powebite cranks. Then later got some odyssey black widow cranks. I love the color but hate the creaking lol
@@JabbinJoel_Sc33p0 apparently no as here in my country dollar to my currency exchangs is so high $1 is equal to 50 of my currency and with that I'd buy a cheap ball bearing or o $2 bearing instead that i can use for a shor time being
do one for cranks and please include how to choose the right amount of spacers! My last build I had to set up and pull my crank arms off 3 times because my cranks were too close to the chainstays!
I learned all this in one summer. Good to know so you can work on your own bike. Spindle length does matter on outboard euros. Because their might not be enough biting area for the crank arms. The Profile website has all the recommended sizes. But that’s mostly just racing bikes.
Thanks for all the info - I'm planing on converting my ancient Huffy Blades Mountain Bike with a Bafang 750w motor --- Learning and looking for stuff on American Bottom Bracket sizing.
Its basically the same yeah. I'm just confused now cos i have TWO supposedly MID BB bicycles BUt they have the same style of BB as the Euro inboard so i'm wondering if it depends on where you buy teh bike what you get with it. I'm from teh UK so wondering if Stolen fit UK frames for inboard euro. Which would be nice cos it would mean i could slap a outboard hollowtech on it and have auch better bike haha.
Excellent video! For the aluminum tube spacer that slides onto the spindle, is that tube length always perfect? It seems that aluminum tube length must be perfect, or the bearings will either rattle, or be compressed. Are frame bottom bracket widths always the exact same, so that aluminum tube always fits perfectly?
Great video! I have an old 'Scorpion Breakdancer' frame I am restoring from my childhood and it has the American style BB with loose bearings. My question is, can I use the same system but with closed bearing cartridge? Can anyone provide links if this set-up is available? I don't really have the know-how and knowledge right now to order the correct parts. Cheers!
Phu had me messed up for two days. On my profile euro bottom bracket the line went on the right (drive) side. I went to the bike shop to have the threads traced and they put the thing right on by hand just by putting the cup with the line on the right side . . .
thanks so much so informative love it thanks you got in depth I know nothing I sell bike parts but used so now I know what they mean Euro or american bb?! thanks so much
I have a dirt jumper, the bike is norco rampage 2 2020,my last cranks got messed up and got them odf and right now im thinking if buying a european bb inboard one.,my frame is threaded but how am i sure its gonna fit? And how can i be sure the axle is gonna be long enough for the cranks to fit?
Got a good one for u, I have a earlier 2000 Brooklyn machine work launch pad, freestyle frame, but I noticed some pics tht ppl are using bmx cranksets, I want to install it on my frame. I can’t used a regular 144bcd, they don’t take the big chainring. Thts why ppl are using the bmx crankset cuz of smaller chain rings. I’m thinking euro out board.
Good info. New to BMX. I rebuilding an old miraaco bmx. The old bottom bracket and bearings are all separate, can I upgrade to one of those pressing in bracket that have bearings built in? Mid 19
So I would like to know how to tell how many spacers you need when installing cranks! Also on the press in bearings which face gets installed to the inside of the bracket or does that matter?
So I got some Rant Spanish 22mm botton bracket for my wethepeople utopia hybrid frame & I noticed one side of the bearing has a red dust cover & the other side is black, is it directional or does it matter wich side is on the out side? Thanks
yoo this helped soo much, but im still confused for my application, i have a 96 mongoose super 24 with a one piece crank, i was going to buy the adapter to euro, but can i just use an american BB instead, like the silver one you showed here for the old school frame?
Phu didn't talk about the bb shell width. The middle spacer didn't fit snug on my frame, so do I just add more small spacers or something? are there different sizes for the shell width?
This video was packed with great info 🤓👍! My current bearings that came with my bike tend to clink when I'm usually standing to pedal. Something's definitely not right because I'm getting a slight wiggle/loose feeling whenever that "cli😬nk" shows it's ugly head. I now know that I'm looking for a 22mm mbb set.
You should've started with the Euro BBs (intr. & exter.) Plus if the Euro Outboard is bigger, are the thread size the same? You never explained that, but I agree bigger is stronger. 🙋 Still confused here!
Yo that new epic shirt is pretty dope. Damn phu looks drained must of been alot of phone calls and questions. Would be good vid showing how to use spacers to fit frame. Seems simple but I'm sure there is something to be learned. Never knew line meant left. Thanks again phu and alf for making it happen.
2:07 Spanish BB come on the T1 Ruben frame and the fly frames back in the day they blew out easily because the bearing being two small on a 22mm BB so they got discontinued and Mid 22mm was born 🔥👍
@@robertlund5694 19mm come in first when bmx moved away from the American BB one of my first bmx's had that bb with 1pc cranks it was a dimond back at the time
Hey, love the vids phu they're the best- always learning something🙂 Currently im in bit of a pickle' I have an older 'failure' brand bmx frame & trying to determine what bb to use, so far from what I read online it was a Spanish type bb- is this right? Is there something better I can install though? Any help would be appreciated'
Question: what do i do if my euro bottom bracket cups come out and wont go back in? Is there something i can buy to repair this issue?? I need helppp!!
I'd love to build up that dyno compe frame. Spanish bb on my fly Tierra, mid on my fit long , American on my '83 se quadangle, external euro on my trek Roscoe
Would have been nice to have the measurements of the bottom bracket size, so you can tell whether you have an american or a mid, with out holding 2 bikes together and see which one is smaller or bigger. Some people dont have bikes laying around with different size BBs to compare. Also where do you take the measurements on your crank shaft for size, the splined area or the center?
You forgot the random 20mm spindle which is always fun when that comes up. It’s not coming at all but 20 years ago it was out there on 8 spline cranks. Or the short lived Maltese BB in the early 10’s which was a euro bb without the threads or the aluminum shell on the bearings so you just pressed in 2 on each side euro size bearings. Remember that time in the early 00’s when some companies were trying to push euro’s in the freestyle world? Kinda wish that caught on tbh
I have a custom federal bmx I picked up ( different parts like demolition, shadow conspiracy, profile, McNeil) and I want to swap out the parts and use my eastern grim reaper frame 😭 but it's hard to find a shop that has Spanish bottom brackets... Also when I get a bottom bracket will my spindle and cranks fit?? Help please 🥺😶
Are all mid bottom brackets sealed bearings? I know american bottom brackets have sealed and unsealed. I'm ordering a bike and it says it has a mid bottom bracket, doesn't say anything about the bearings. It does for the headset though.
I've been a mechanic all my life and I learn something from Phu every time thanks Alf
Phu getting us ready for a test at the end of the vid.

My Redline flight cranks have a 19.8mm bottom bracket axle.
Euro is English bottom bracket or BSA (which was an arms company). It's a threaded 68mm
Wait the little line means left? Looking at the frame's headset from the front, or from sitting on the frame looking down on the bottom brackets?
