Great instructional video. I have one suggestion: when installing the non-drive side, and after you've taken care to align the treaded holes, wouldn't it be wise to orient your press tool such that the spinning portion is on the previously-installed side, rather than the non-drive side so that you don't risk inadvertently spinning the holes out of alignment as your spinning the press tight? Just a thought. As always, thanks much for sharing. Steve
Good thought. The handle side has a plate that uses a teflon bushing to allow it to stay stationary with the cup while the handle spins. This reduces the potential for the issue you brought up.

@Park Tool If those parts are really tight, how about putting them in the freezer and heating up the bottom bracket with a heat gun before pressing them in?
LOVE this vid, TruVativ adapters came this morning. I’m doing this conversion on a 2006 Redline MX 24, how would I find out the torque specs for this particular bike for the BB adapter bolts? Tubes are chromoly, but wouldn’t the torque be more of a guess?
Is there a way to convert say Technique 181mm Cranks with American BB and 25mm spindle to fit a newer BMX frame with mid sized BB's like a Hyper Wizard, S&M, Subrosa...etc.???? Thoughts?
It is a bit surprising Technique does not have an adapter for this. A threaded adapter could be made, similar to the Campagnolo adapters. The Mid bb's uses a 41.2mm bearing. Road bikes offer various options for the 24, 25 and even 30mm spindles for similar shells. Contact Technique. Otherwise a good machinist can make anything....for a price.
It matters very much. The drive side is a Left Hand thread, and tighten counter-clockwise. The non-drive side is right hand threaded, and tightens clockwise.
The best way to tell if a bb needs facing is to start facing it. The initial cut will tell you how off the BB is and wether or not you should continue.
Agreed! He thinks we know as much as he does almost. Be more clear on the parts please. I think he put american cups in 1st to accomidate a euro cup. Euro bb's have to screw into place. If it cant screw into the frame I guess u grab amer cups. Fuckin hybrid bottom bracket n shit.
I have never heard a BSA bottom bracket being referred to as Euro. Is it not more commonly called English thread as opposed to the Italian thread and others used in mainland Europe. Does BSA not stand for Birmingham Small Arms? The company that invented it which is of course in England.
It is common in BMX to call BSA or English threaded bottom brackets "euro" bottom brackets. We bring it up in the video as most of these adaptors have "euro" in the name, so if someone wants to look for one it may be easier to find with that in the search bar. Yes Birmingham Small Arms is what BSA stands for.
@@MrJeanpaul1988 good point about width, I’m guessing the American big bore BB standard doesn’t necessarily match any common or standard threaded BB width?
Yes. For BMX BB standards you have American, Mid and Euro. For spline you have everything from 6 or 8 splines up to 48 which is fairly standard like on Profile cranks.
@@ViperSRTnACR spline? were talking freehub/wheel click-sounding spline? in all of my cycling thats nothing we talk about. roadies talk about freehub-sound but thats more a schlong-messuring kinda thing
Thanks for the tip about lining the two sides up using the 3 mm t-handle wrench!
This taught me about retaining compound and variations in BB shell size - thanks!
Truman's the man Love my RC-1 for putting my mid BB in my frame and TLR-1 for bolts to stop them vibrating loose
Got the parts. Thanks for this, revive an old Banshee Scratch.
Great Video! It explained the conversion process perfectly. Thanks.
Great piece of knowledge to pass on! As usual!

Just did this conversion on a '74 schwinn varsity and put all modern shimano parts on it. I hammered in the bracket cups though oopsie!
Nicely explained, Trueman. Regards.
I Love videos along this lines!!
I love how they were playing around about
The HEX wrench lifehack is spot on!!!
Good catch Park Tool®
Should have caught it earlier. Feeling pretty bad right about now.

A fantastic trick that will usually get the job done.
Good idea
Really good video
Which video covers the new XTR crank install that we briefly see in the intro?
AHHH SNAP - Been needing this one!
is it a good idea from a chemical safety standpoint to handle and mix chemicals with bare hands and fingers?

The torque spec on the 3 bolts is 5NM. The bottom bracket torque will be dependent on the bottom bracket used but is typically somewhere around 40Nm.
@@parktool Thanks!

Good video. Still I find terms „american“ and „european“ BB a bit misleading. There are numerous different BB standards originating on both sides.🤔
Hello Bonjour , Thank you Park tool ! ✌👌😊
nice and very informative
Nice
great vid links to parts would be nice
:)
Good day Park tool, I just want to ask what frame is that?
That is an On One Gimp.
Can you show me how to disassemble the shimano crankset spider?
thanks
does it matter which side goes on where? or are the threads for the adapter halves mirrored?
It matters very much. The drive side is a Left Hand thread, and tighten counter-clockwise. The non-drive side is right hand threaded, and tightens clockwise.
@@parktool and which parts are those? is the one where the 3 bolts go in the right or left side?
How would you check to see if either side of the BB shell needed facing?

Is it enough to Put Grease on the Cups?
Grease will be perfectly fine in that area.
