For a guy who was really quick to say he wasn’t in influenced by the 1960s, Squire is very determined to play Rickenbackers, Gretschs, and write Lennon-esque lyrics
Don't believe in Jesus Don't believe in Jah Don't believe in the wars we fight Just to prove how real we are I believe in lovers, I believe in friends I believe in heaven here on earth 'Til the, the beginning ends Love me and leave me Love me and leave me Love me and leave me Leave me to love Don't you ever tell me It came from above Just love me and leave me Leave me to love I believe in heroes, I believe in stars I believe that we'll meet one day Say hello in some astral bar I believe in brothers I know you know who you are Here's to those who bore us And made us what we are Love me and leave me Love me and leave me Love me and leave me Leave me to love Don't you ever tell me It came from above Just love me and leave me Leave me to love
@@inacornernot sure but on the Spotify version the lyrics are the ones the person above wrote. Think they might have had to change the line for some versions as maybe religious people got offended
@In A Corner Definitely a re-recorded first 2 verse lines for a music video. You can Easily tell the difference of the sound from the first 2 verse lines to yhe 3rd and on. Starting with "Dont believe in the wars we fight" one can tell the compression value is Much higher than the first two lines. The irony is "Dont believe in censors". "Have we gone too far?", is literally a response to the music TV of the time. Couldnt say Jesus and couldnt say Jah. Quite cheeky, actually. Cheers.
I had the single of this great song that came with 2 other beautiful songs. This is my favourite britpop band ever. Do it yourself its a stunning album. A pearl hidden in the heart's tender history of rock'n roll
I love Squires guitar playing on this entire album. So subtle, soulful and melodic. It really is a great guitar rock album. Too bad they only released on LP.
I would say, as a working musician, that he (Squire) overplays on this album, but that's guitarists 4u, they never know when to shut up. But, quite a good album overall.
Brilliant track, have seen Chris Helme twice in Leeds as a solo act. Will be seeking more of his material from now on, he's great as a solo act! However I love this classic by the Seahorses.
Squire's best guitar work on the album, I think, in this song. Not too intrusive but some nice runs and riffs. This one is a real grower. I didn't like it as much at first but listening to it now it's right up there with Blinded by the Sun. Pity they had to change the opening lines for the single: DON'T BELIEVE IN JESUS - DON'T BELIEVE IN JAH!
Wow, I searched for years to hear this version, after reading that the US radio version removed the Jesus lyric from the first line, I never knew about the 2nd line, and never thought to check the video!
Great memories.. the album was produced perfectly.. squaire wanted to use the same studio set up as rockfield, but didnt want to go back there ( after just sending 4 years with the roses living there) so the album was recorded in L.A the only other mixing desk that rockfield have..
I'm looking for a song between the mid 90's till 2005, I always thought it was Supergrass but it's not. I only remember the end of the song with the lead signer (a young man) singing haha-haha what-a-ta and then a men choir reapeting haha-haha what-a-ta with a depper voice, thanks a lot
I once told John Squires that I thought he took over musically, he was a bit shocked. on reflection he was awesome, and the seahorses were much better in my view than the roses. different, and the songs were beautifully sung by chris. DIY is still on of my top ten albums.
Occasionally I've thought that too. His guitar, while being awesome, nearly always plays lead the whole way through, no gaps, so it can sometimes become the song.
Sorry, are you trying to tell me the first line was censored because he says "DON'T BELIEVE IN JESUS!" Blasphemy laws in 1997! Oh my fucking days, I'm going to explode.
Year 1997,I went to a club,I meet a girl and this girl was a big fan of oasis... Me wearing the t-shirt from the year 1995 second line of oasis.she told me about this master music magic thing call the sea horses....
Chris did have the IT factor especially in this 60s revival look and sound. And I side with Chris over Squire, they would’ve been a lot more interesting adding that folk 60s element in their tunes and getting away from Johns attempt to be Jimmy Page guitar rocker. It’s like Chris needed the Squire from 1989 and they would’ve been beyond amazing
still stands the test of time! most groups of the Britpop mid 90's scene do, it truly was a great time for British music. 🖒
Wrong. This is shit. Nostalgia makes you like it. Plus how crap guitar music was since.
Bloody loved Seahorses ..Remember watching them in Manchester whist pregnant with my second baby..such a shame they disbanded
Same. Was the best band aka album of britpop; just classic stylings propped up with searing guitar
This was co-wrote by John Squire and Liam Gallagher. True story.
liam wrote the chorus
+sideyone1 Thankfully he didn't "sing" on it!
+skul1974 You're a better singer, obviously!!
+Neil Carroll I've farted better notes than Liam Gallagher can sing! So yes, probably! 😉
skul1974 go back asleep!

Just love me and leave me

I believe in heroes, I believe in stars
I believe that we'll meet one day
Say hello in some astral bar
I believe in brothers
I know you know who you are
Here's to those who bore us

Probably 1 of the best songs of that year !!
Highy under-rated band imo...
In my view a very underestimated band.
Here in 2021 and this is still an amazing song
2023 too
Here in July 2023 I started listening to them im January fucken brilliant

They actually recorded a second album just never released it called minus blue

@@DaveLennonCopeland that's why you're a "working musician" and John Squire is a superstar.
Love me and leave me, always gives me goosebumps. Beautiful song and lyrics.
It’s funny how even squire will deny this album. Preposterously modest bastard it is his prime work!
Takes me back to easier care free days. My brother introduced me to this album when i was 9. Awesome! Just awesome!

How brilliant.... What's available now for my kids to listen to. Loved the 90s

I have still listened to this masterpiece. Glory to the history of Seahorses.
Finally got my hands on a vinyl copy of their album this week! One of my favourite 90s albums!
Glad I got to see these live. Great album.

What changed?
...one of the best songs, love it..
Seen these at roadmender northampton. Good but not as good as the roses at spike island. Now that was a day to remember.
I think they could have been bigger that the roses to be honest.
@@grantfyfe492 Totally agreed, if the Seahorses got together before the roses they'd've fucking smashed it

Listening back to DIY now some of it is a bit much, but hey, watching Squire play is awesome, only topped in the cool stakes by Jimmy Page imo.
Awesome tune
beautiful song
Fabulous lyrics
Perfect.
Awesome band and Liam co wrote this track
Amazing song
The sheahorses..(y)
Damn fine song.
Seen the lead singer at Glasgow last month at the recovery sober fest
Well the lyric is 'tweaked' a little...but great song indeed....memories of my high school
A classic song.....

This band is way unheard of, it's really sad. One Liam (oasis) all time bands too.
Seahorses is an anagram of she's a rose. No wonder squires made a terrific band just for the anagram ha

Little known fact is that this was co-written by Liam Gallagher!

Has the first line been changed from the album version? Why?
Like the feel Asia such as Korea, Japan.

Wrong. It's written by LIAM Gallagher and Squire.
