Take a Picture - Lyrics by Richard Patrick
Awake on my airplane Awake on my airplane
My skin is bareMy skin is theirs
Awake on my airplane Awake on my airplane My skin is bare
My skin is theirsI feel like newborn
And I feel like a newbornAwake on my airplane
Awake on my airplaneI feel so real
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Yeah
I don't believe inI don't believe in
Your sanctity your privacy
I don't believe in I don't believe in
Sanctity a hypocrisy
Could everyone agree that no one should be left alone
Could everyone agree that they should not be left alone, yeah
And I feel like a newborn And I feel like a newborn
Kicking and screaming
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Yeah
Hey Dad what do you think about your son now?

I still have the CD from when it was released. It feels such a rare, dreamy piece of music.
@@wedgiepantilles4620 Me too! My CD is transparent due to the heavy usage😆
All I did in the 90s was fantasize about the future. Now that I'm in the future, all I want is to go back to the 90s

No flying cars, no stellar travel or lunar vacations, and racism more overt than back then, maybe that's good or bad as now we are starting to face our demons, but ya. I agree with you, just back to when we had the birth of the internet but no fucking smart phones, that would be great.
What happened the 90s were awesome then sept 11 and everything has not been the same since bring back quality music
I feel your pain!
Yeah why is that. Feel the same
Song like this reminds me that I need to stop being anxious about how my friends are, worried about relationships, or fear what people think of me. I should just go out there and live my young life while I can.
Exactly. It’s cool how this song evokes that feeling in a lot of people. It’s almost hypnotic, especially if it’s nostalgic to you.
this is the most beatiful comment ive ever seen

Keep on keeping on brother. If you treat people how you'd like to be treated, then never, ever worry about what they think about you.😊

My dad told me the story of what this song meant to him, my dad had never met his biological father until 2006, I was born in 1999 right after this song came out. When my parents drove home with me for the first time, this song was playing on the radio and my dad had never heard it yet. While this song was playing he was thinking about how his father would be feeling about being a grandpa and then the lyrics “Hey dad, what do you think about your son now?” played. He said he got goosebumps and started to cry, a mixture of joy and sadness of not knowing how his dad would feel about him, would he be proud? Happy? Supportive of his own boy having his first child? He said he’ll never forget that moment until he’s dead and gone. That story always struck home to me and made me think that maybe some things, even music, are meant for certain moments in time, like that moment right there. Thank you Filter for making a beautiful and soul warming song for us all to forever remember.
Underrated comment. Tears in my eyes reading this. That's one of the most beautiful things I've read in awhile--especially, "[that] story always struck home to me and made me think that maybe some things, even music, are meant for certain moments in time, like that moment right there." Well said, and beyond relatable!

I was a senior in high school when this came out and it blew me away. Listening to it late into the night. When you're a teenager you can only wonder about the world and what it will be like. You see endless possibilities. My imagination would run wild. I loved this song. Hearing it again makes me miss those times dearly. Your teenage years are a trip. Things are different now. Growing up has its pros and it has its cons. Cherish your youth. Be kind to people.
Amen 🙏 I'm 55 and life goes by so fast 😊 truly cherish every moment 😇
I agree! In my 50's and I would give anything to go back to being 18!
=]
This hit hard. You've got a good 9 years on me, but I was doing the same thing at about the same time.
We had no idea those would be the best days of our lives.
I can so relate to what you said! I dreamed of becoming a radio DJ when I was in my late teens, and I would set up at night, like you, and dream about all the stations I could jock at. I would listen to my songs and just let my imagination run wild about how famous and successful I would become!!! At night in the 🏜 desert, I could pick up a station in Oklahoma City, and, years later, I ended up working there!! Yes, I imagined it and it happened!!! I'm retired now, 52 years old, and what a trip it's been!!!! But, how I wanna go back and be 16 again, and dream those dreams, and have all the wonderful things and beautiful ladies ahead of me instead of behind me....
Time goes way,way too fast...
This song takes me back to those dream filled desert nights, when anything was possible and getting older happened to everyone else.....

I discovered this song in 2006… life threatening cancer, a divorce, 2 scared kids and Richard Patrick in my head phones. I’m still here & I still love this song

I went through 2 life changes at the same time as well. I became a new and better person. Sometimes it takes seeing things as thing are for oneself to do something for their life. Heart valve replacememt surgery and that led to a divorce. It was tough.

This is one of those rare songs that touches your heart with it's dreamy sound and challenges your mind with it's thought provoking lyrics. Definitely a true gem among the songs of the 90's. I never get tired of listening to it.
its about getting drunk as hell .chill out lol
@@briancarpenter6413 It was inspired by the composer having a drunk episode. I think the crafting of the lyrics though has a wider area for interpretation. Even Richard Patrick admitted that each time he sings some of the lyrics they have a different meaning to him.

Cherish the good memories...
One of the best songs from that era. This is what actual talent from actual musicians sounds like. Nothing complicated or super technical, but it's just a solid song.
I ended here after I googled one of my favorite songs and videos, STP Wicked Garden and just read something about these guys. Evidently the lead singer was a studio musician for NIN and started his own band from there and was tired of 600 a week. I'm curious to here more. I remember this song being on the radio a long long long time ago. Everything but the vocals makes me think of PP for some reason...probably the percussion and sound of the early 2000's.
Yes, you are right.
Seeing Filter do this song live was a whole ass experience. God I wish I could go back. 🥰🥰
I assume you were sitting on YOUR ass at the gig.
1:10 "Feel so real" in the high register. Just 8 seconds of pure beauty, preparing you for the chorus. Ah! So good!

Miss the 90s. Great music. The decade of my young adulthood. I love this song..
As an 80's child and metal head I normally wouldn't like a song like this...but the musicianship / execution / structure of this song is just captivating...and while the lyrics / vocals dont seem award-winning , they are truly mesmerizing...this song really stands out for me - I have to admit this band is extremely and extraordinarily talented !!
It's a pretty odd departure from their industrial rock and grunge roots.

just heard an interview with the lead singer on the grant random show on sirius and he said he was a mess when he was drinking he has been sober for like 16 years or so and life is awsome now
To me it was instant. In my interpretation, without wanting to know all the words.
It's about the circle of life. Reincarnation. Take a picture cause i won't remember.
You are born and then realize it's an illusion and you're not alone.
If god was a person, he would be alone.
Lots of feelings attached to this song...
At the moment, my mom suffers from Alzheimer's. When i visit i take pictures so i can later show her the things we do. She doesn't remember longer than a few minutes, So she enjoys seeing the pics of what we do.
"You wanna take my picture cause i wont remember"
I reluctantly excepted my new role in her life so i also relate to the line,
"i feel like a new born kickin and screaming"

I saw these guys in Iraq while deployed back in 2010. Richard wasn't really feeling the crowd. I wasn't really supposed to be at the show, but I'd been a fan for nearly a decade. I remember before this song was played, he gave a little insight on what it meant to him.
At the end of the show, I stayed for the autograph. I was pushing it by then, but I really wanted to meet the band. I recall laughing at how giddy everyone was. Then it was my turn. I looked Richard right in the eyes and I froze for what seemed like forever. He asked me if I was alright. I was speechless. Completely awestruck. He came around and gave me a big hug and signed a photo for me.
I'll never forget that day. I've since lost the photo, but I'll always have the memory.

"Hey, dad, what you think about your son now?" This is the phrase that has always cut me sharp. My father was murdered when I was one year old. I barely remember him. I listened to this song for the very first time when I was in high school. It caught me immediately. Up to now, I still wonder what my dad thinks about his son now. Greetings from Mexico.
César Adrián Flores Martínez that’s heartbreaking, sorry
I think that phrase resonates in alot of our hearts . This is one of the most moving lyrics I've ever heard .
I'm so sorry, love to you brother
Can i ask you what happened to your Dad ? Iam sorry for you
so sorry my friend for your loss. my dad was takin when i was young too. sucks god bless
one of the greatest songs ever recorded…
the memories with this one hit like a bullet train… thank you… i’ll never forget those days… i love you…
I remember hearing this on the radio in 1999, it's been my favorite song ever since.. Thanks Filter !!❤
bands like these makes 90's music great and unforgettable...
THANK GOD!! After years of tracking i finally found this song. :) I first heard this 4 years ago on a radio station called 93 Rock in Florida. :) I had this stuck in my head all that day :) the next day i forgot the name of it :P. here i am 4 years later lol :P
funny i went to HS in fla. when this came out and i had to wake up super early to get ready, at 4am MTV still played videos. this was one of them. never forgot.
I'm glad this music is transcending generations because you are obviously a youngster (not a bad thing, I just grew up with this band among others). The 90's were really the last bastion of good rock music. Rockstars were still rockstars.
Congrats on finding out the song name!
Now can anyone tell me where I can find the version on VH1 where they played pop-up video and used this song?
It was really cool, as they used mugshots (pictures) from famous people throughout the whole video! Including Bill Gates!
You should of taken a picture.
LOL
Went to Louder than Life a few weeks ago. Filter was unquestionably the best band there. Richard Patrick absolutely killed it. When I closed my eyes it was 1995 again, if only for a moment.
This song helped save my life in 2002 and is helping me again now. Words cannot express how much this song means to me. Rest in peace, Mike. You loved this song. Don't worry, I will remember ❤
The juice is definitely worth the squeeze on this jam.
Always know if the juice is worth the squeeze
girl next door 😀
@@jvl3097 you damn skippy
To me, this song is a reminder of my brother who committed suicide. The pictures are all we have now. And his relationship with our dad was incredibly complicated. Thank you to the band for this song. Much love
🤗🤗
Richard Patrick looks like a man i dated for 7years. I loved him so much and i probably always will. Such fond memories. We did everything together, more or less, joined at the hip. Even though we went our separate ways, a part of me will always love him.❤
I ran into a CVS last week and this song was playing. I was so taken aback lol. Time felt like it froze for a minute while I was there
Music is the closest time travel we have 😭🙏
Nicely put!
IvY Gaming here, here.
This is deep. ❤❤❤
You got that right, man how I miss the 70s, it was a great time to be a teenager, straight up!
Amen. Music brings me to memories, feelings, sensations I hadn't thought of in years. You're spot on.
Knowing the meaning of the song and spending years in the same situation makes this the best song I have or ever will hear. I've been sober for 2 years and will never go back to that life.
Proud of you, as someone who struggles with similar issues. It’s not easy to keep facing the pain over and over without running away into a substance. I understand and I think what you’ve done for yourself requires a strength of the soul. That’s special. Keep going.
90s music videos were something else, so surreal and full of fantasy and warped perception.
I remember waking up early in the morning to hear this song on MTV. This song is just so beautiful. I love it. Always will.
Ikrrrr and this feels like a great morning wake up song every thing feeling so right and good knowing you’re gonna have a great day
Yeah, Danielle you never get tired of this song !!!! Great Song, one of my favorite songs of all - time !!!!
in the morning with this wailing..?
@@chaz7608Yup.
I’m not sure how a song manages to make me both happy and sad at the same time. Great song from a great band.
Definitely a special kind of mixed emotions
Yes!😃👍
This is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave Acoustic” by SLT 🤘🐺🤘
I knew it was released it 99. The whole “the world ending “ was crazy during that yr because of the next yr 2000- wow - time fukn flies.
Same here
My parents would play this song all the time when I was a kid. Hearing this gives me vivid memories of me hanging out in their bedroom as my mom folded clothes
🥴👌
Sounds lovely.
Simple memories as a child like that is the best. I wish I was a child again.
You're Parents were cool 😎
That’s awesome, I was prolly in high school when this came out but great song no doubt.
i recorded this song off the radio onto a cassette tape along with all my other favorites from the 90's, i wish i still had that tape.
Man does this hits home, such a beautiful song. I remember being young and hearing this and just being so optimistic about the future and all of the things I could and/or would do.
Good for you keep that!!
Makes me feel old but strong
Still sounds awesome today
This song really makes me think about life and the future ahead of me
I hope everything turned out for the best for you 😊
Tris song is magic🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I cried the first time I ever heard this song in 1999, sitting in my Firebird, alone and just bought the CD. In 2021 I still love the song!
A song that helped me get through my mid-teens when it came out. God I miss the 90's. I would die right now if I could go back to 1998 & keep the wisdom and lessons I've learned since then. Take another crack at life starting from that warm and soft blanket that was the late 90's..
“Warm and soft blanket” is the perfect way to describe the 90s. Tender, innocent, sincere.
I agree with you but we have to somehow impart our wisdom with the teens of today.
@@esoterium22they don't listen. 😢
But would it trigger a butterfly effect?
i’d give anything to go back to the 90s also, shit
This song inspired me to get back into flying remote control first-person video aircraft again. When I was young, I began the hobby with a neighbor. He flew in a B-24 Liberator. One of his missions was the raid on Plosti, Romania, where there were refineries. His best friend was in the plane next to him. Flak hit the bomb rack. His best friend never knew the plane exploded. But the event was caught on film. Mr. Hodgson, thank you for your sacrifice and service to us. If it wasn't for you, I doubt I would have become a history teacher or a pilot.
love late 90's bands. vertical horizon, filter, creed, fuel. good times.
IKR. Miss them bands
indubitably... amazing, memorable, magical, surreal times.... on so many levels!!
i'd live 96-99 over & over eternally... my life & times matched the mood of the musical era, in every fantastic way imaginable.
LET'S GO BACK!!
ha ha ..
Klayton Von Kluge well said. My sentiments exactly, word for word...
matt west ~ we need a time machine, man! You can start me off at around the winter of '95, or the spring/summer of '96... i'm ready!
Filter is one of those bands that makes a seamless transition from heavier, moodier stuff to a lighter, more introspective vibe seemingly easy...
"Hey Man, Nice Shot"
is worlds away, musically, conceptually, and lyrically from "Take A Picture"
(Just my humble opinion)
Richard Patrick telling the story behind this stream-of-conscious song: He recalled: "There was no thought behind it. It was off-the-cuff. It was emotional. I was so lonely. When you drink, you feel cut off from everybody. The isolation is wild. You isolate yourself, but then you realize you're left all alone. I'd get in trouble. I got arrested, but I was taken to a psych ward."
"That was the second time I had an issue on airplane," he continued. "I was like, 'I bet my dad's going to be proud of this!' There's that song, 'Dad, I'm In Jail.' 'Take A Picture' was my homage to that. 'Hey dad, what do you think about your son now?' is a double entendre. Do you think my platinum records are cool? Do you think I'm a success? Do you know how much pain I'm in? Do you have any idea what's going on with me? I think everybody has that thing with their parents. They want to figure out their moms and dads."
Thank you for understanding
Thank you for the meaning of this song. It's exactly what my son is going through. He's a heroin addict and everytime he goes to jail he expresses the same feelings. His dad calls him a junkie and that he'll never be anything.
The "Hey dad, what do you think about your son now?" lyric i thought was about how he grew up jealous and being in his older brothers shadow, his brother being Hollywood actor Robert Patrick.
Dannie 27 him and his brother are VERY close.
@@JOHNizSiK were they close back then when he wrote the song? Im more talking about him and his fathers relationship compared to the relationship his father had/has with his movie/television star brother.
my mom was obsessed with taking pictures of our family as i grew up. it got annoying when i was a teen and twenty something. then she got cancer and died age 53 in 2010. i have her massive collection of photo albums and im thankful. so many amazing pictures.
That's awesome. Just make her proud . Live your life to the fullest . Go change the world.
Make a difference in someone lives ✌️life is too short
Ah 😢 I’m 53 and having slight memory issues and so sad I didn’t take more pictures of my kids growing up. I treasure the ones we do have. Love to you and all!

I remember listening to this song on the radio on the way home the day my Mom was moved to Hospice care. I guess it was her way of telling me that she is free now. No more pain. No more chemotherapy. I still get mixed emotions of joy and profound sadness when I hear this song. RIP Mom. You were a better mom than I ever deserved.
The pre covid years...... the times when we were so long forward to what the future holds for us all. Listening to music like this before going to school, and after we got home, just so excited to finally become an adult....... only to miss the very thing that passed us by all along. Rest in Peace 1990-1999...... gone but never forgotten
Nicely said. The 90s were a great time, and these days I really wish I could go back and stay there.
Pre 911.
Man do you ever suck for bringing all the feelings back.
Still brings me to tears all these years later. Makes me think of my father and the plane crash that killed both him and my Mother in 1988. What a power music has to evoke such intense feelings and memories.
My condolences bro :(
+BrandtArt66 Couldn't have said it better. Brought a tear to my eye as well...
Word...
Respect 👍
Hey dad!!!
Memories.... I miss those times....no facebook no Twitter no Snapchat..
J.M.H.S Ditto.
I dislike all social media.
J.M.H.S it’s 2020 and I have no twitter or Facebook or Snapchat....
its a choice to have facebook, twitter and snapchat you dumbass.
Internet broke those good days
God i love this song & this f*king video...Kick ass TOTALLY ✌❤🌎🇺🇸
Listening to this song gives me nostalgia chills.
Takes me back to a time when life as a teenager was somehow so simple and yet so bloody complex and overwhelming.
And now here we are in 2020, where we're all going numb from how insane the world is.
At least we've still got the music.
I still remember those endless summers listening to these guys, Alice in Chains, Sound Garden, STP and so MANY more! These songs take me back in time and stir a lot of feelings in me. My Dad was alive, I lived at home and life was very simple in many regards. Today I have my own home, family and look out at a world filled with the bare truth and that truth is full of evil and gnawing hunger. Still, the light survives and eventually it will overcome all darkness. All praise, power and glory to the one and only true Living God Almighty in Heaven!
Life is going by so fast man, I'm 39 and I don't like it. I miss being young
Amen brother!
Alice In Chains!

Wish I could have a beer with you Jason.Know how you feel.
This song could have been released two hours ago as opposed to 1999 that's how friggin modern it sounds. 24 freaking years later! Amazing! Almost ahead of its time in ways & as refreshing now as it was back when it was first released. This largely unheralded masterpiece!
I remember getting that album like it was yesterday. Filter will go on as an American Rock band.
Brings me back to the 90s.....God I miss those days
I'd be honored if some classic 90s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of Mmm Mmm Mmm by the CRASH TEST DUMMIES, Bittersweet Symphony by THE VERVE, and Long December by the COUNTING CROWS on my YT channel in tribute to 3 great 90s standards. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace out.
You and me both
Such great songs ...bring back some great memories
@@gabrielthivierge7719 brings back the truth for my son. Hey Dad what'ya think of

Amazing song.

I was a model & all that I could think of while I was being shot from every angle... How the hell was I going to get the guy that I was secretly in love with is how was I going to get him to see me at my best. I'm still trying to get up the nerve. Someone out there help !!!
Agree real talk, No one should be left alone.
I hope his dad turned out to be proud of his son.
I heard this song after being 3 weeks in the hospital in a very critical situation. Just suited perfectly. It changed the way I see life. Enjoy life people.
What happened?
This is the anthem for all of us with boomer fathers. I think we did ok considering what a disadvantage we started off with. I didn't turn out to be anything but I know a lot of people (men) who did so I love that line in the last chorus
I think nostalgia is the most powerful drug.
@alpha Delta yes it is
U might be right...My brother said, don't get too into nostalgia...It can mess a person up...I think he is right...Food for thought !! God bless :):)
