  • Autodesk Technical Evangelist Rob Cohee steps back for a few minutes to talk about a few fundamentals of of workplanes. Work geometry is as important a concept to grasp as 3D features when it comes to parametric modeling. In this example Rob steps you through how to create the right workplane for the appropriate application.

I absolutely liked the pace of this video... I even turned the speed to x1,5.
Most tutorials spend too much time to get to the point. Takeaway from this tutorial is to use tangent workplanes, project geometry and a nice way to get angled workplanes.

haters be haters. videos are great rob, i prefer your videos over every other demonstrator on youtube, and yes, ive looked at all i can find. sure, in some videos you move a little fast, but that movement or concept is either covered in another video, the inventor tutorials, or a good old fashioned rewind can fix it. ive never ended a video lost. keep it up!!!

Hi Rob, when we have created a work plane and want to look at it normal to it ( like when we use to create a sketch but without creating one.) is there any command or button?

Hey Rob, thanks for these Tutorials. really fast to pick up. I literally hit the ground running. wanted to ask if there's a way to in assembly mode to see the parts that are on the underneath. i mean for instance i want to drill a hole on a piece to match the hole on the piece that is underneath. i tried by putting it in wireframe mode but it only shows the active part. the rest goes invisible. again thanks so much man. ur awesome.

Think some guys are finding it hard as you usually have a 3D mouse so it speeds up the process, but hey your good, even though you don,t answer my emails, try to find out why 2011 student has not got Alias, rather have than add in than fusion as it's always crashing with catalyst problems!???Thanks Rob,taught me a lot....James

Where did you receive your best training (Inventor/CAD) and do you produce tutorials / demonstrations with Inventor 2016 or 2017? Thank you.

Terrible video. You don't explain what you're doing, you always say "so what I did", when you should be saying this is what I am doing while you're doing it. Do and explain what your doing, don't do then explain.

You have got to be kidding! Seriously... you prefaced you video by saying how you need to slow down and explain your steps more clearly. You are obviously an expert in Inventor but a complete novice at instruction. Stop lecturing like everyone is on the same level as you. Explain each click of the mouse and switch to decaf. I am a certified AutoCAD level 3 instructor and I was lost at the first mouse swipe of you video. You don't have to speak slower, just explain each movement of your mouse and clearly explain each selection. Good luck in your future videos.

    to Mr Bad Posture,
can you make a video on how to twist blades @20deg. with slots from a flat layout that has five blades attached to a cyliinder (NOT A PROP)

Nice, although not sure whether the offset narration helps (by making me pause, rewind and watch rather than listen) or hinders (for the same reason) ;)
Gives the impression of going too fast when actually the pace is quite nice, it's just not aligned with the narration...Got it in the end and that's what counts!

If you want suggestion. Could you make a video for the truly inventor illiterate. Totally new to this and you move too fast.

    Rob,
I love your stuff....but you need to cut back on the caffeine and slow down a little. To figure out what you are doing...I need to freeze the video about every 4 seconds to see what you're hitting with your mouse.... How about a moment or two pause on each step or mouse click to let us catch up?
    Thanks,
    Doc

So this is "bringing it down for noobs", huh? If that was the mission it was a complete failure. Way, way too fast. Talking fast, clicking fast, it's ridiculous.
