I gotta say Mike, as someone who is just starting to dabble in woodworking & drum restoring/modding these videos give me real hope and some direction. Thank again for all you do! Keep up the killer work!
@@malonedrum Will do! So far I've only made a quick and dirty "pedall board" for my gear. Just started playing for a local artist and I have been spoiled to using IEMs. So I build a little rig that stays all wired up and helps keep the sound consentant for me. I've got my Yamaha EAD-10 to mic my drums and my Dr. Beat all running into a little behringer mixer. Then at practice, I take a line out the guys combo amp to run into my mixer so I have his accostic and vox. Then at shows I do the same or run the floor wedge line into it. Anywho, I got tired of setting all that up every time so I grabbed a bit of scrap wood and built a little board for it. Got everything strapped down and it even fits inside one of those pelican style boxes. So now I just pull it out, run power, place the mic, run the two lines i need, and I ready to roll! Next up on the list (and this has been on the list for years) is to fix up an old CB-700 kit a friend gave to me. Needs some cleaning and I need to replace some missing hardware BUT I am looking forward to it. Plan to fix it up and use that at rehearsals so that I don't have to break down my kit every week.
Build a matching bass drum and snare, please! A "concert snare" with just one side :) Oh, and re-paint the whole set, plz. Silver on the inside, and blue sparkle on the outside. And thanks for the great content!!
A man after my own heart. Being creative, willing to experiment and being resourceful all at the same time. Cheers! P.S. Those CB 700 wristwatch style lugs are some of my personal favorites. I just finished a purple glitter concert tom set with all CB wristwatch style lugs and they look amazing in my opinion! ♪♫♪
Cool! Green heads would be adventurous especially if you end up painting interior silver. Camouflage could be another unique color option. If in doubt (and time is plentiful) all black, red gaskets and black skins🍻
Glad you made the other 2 drums to complete these concert toms! And once again, they sound amazing. Of course with the gated reverb they sound even better! Keep up the great work! And looking forward to the Drum Show next month!

A lot of the times you’re hearing high end dream drums it’s under a lot of microphones and editing. Makes you wonder if that’s really what you wanted in the first place.
@@malonedrum mm..weird: yt just gave me the notification!! .. Yes!! Listened to aaaa lot of dcp drum reviews! It's really nice nice that they take the time to show how it sounds with just room mic's but.. The difference how it sounds in close micing: surreal!!
I just love your project videos, Mike. This one was so cool. Those drums sound great, and I really appreciate your comparison segments showing the sounds with and without electronic enhancements. Thanks so much.
Excellent video as always, Mike!! Very cool to see a 14 and 16 added to the set of concert toms!! They look and sound great, and that mix with the EQ and effects is incredible. Contrary to what some may say about the color, I think the green looks fantastic- it's not something you see every day on drums so it gives a really unique look. I know you said you don't use these a lot but who knows? If you're ever in a situation where you need to bring a small kit with minimal gear and don't have a ton of room for full sized toms, such as the small jazz gig you did in the video of 3 gigs in one day, maybe you could bring a couple of these such as the 10 and 14 to save space. These could look cool alongside the shallow kick drum you used in that video!!
I'm sure there could be a use for them one day, but the sound is so different, I could never see myself playing jazz on them, but Im sure at some point I'll find a track to use them on!
Hi Mike, what’s that stuff you used to take the logo of drum heads? Do you know if it will work on coated heads. I’m doing up an old set of ludwig’s and want to get rid of the remo brand on the front head to add a ludwig transfer. thanks
Nice work dude, if You ever get to Denmark I got a 6” concert Tom for You. Then You only need a 18” to complete a full Set. Btw Your snare sounds 110% awesome !😎👍🎶🔨👌
@@malonedrum ¿Is it the name of the trademark? Impossible to find it in my country. But what is the component or chemical of the product that manages to erase the paint from the logos?
Quite possibly, if I really anticipated them being something I’d use a ton, I’d probably cut from better shells and new edges. More of a proof of concert for me, and a way to recycle the drums. I hear ya though!

Black interior AND exterior would have been a great clean look. Either way, you did a fine job and they sound great. Kudos

Phil Collins style concerts toms. Good work.

Fiberglass on the insides. 🤘

Cool project. Well done.
Thanks!
Those wristwatch lugs are popular in the MIJ world.
Yes, they are cool, and I kept them to use on a future drum.
Wonder if you could get a frame drum type sound for some tribal beats by using something like Remo Skyntone or Evans Calftone heads on these.
I sure, very similar shell style

I would have painted the CTs a gloss white, like Phil C.!
Yeah, if you watch part one, you can see the process of how I ended up with green as an accident, but yeah "Full Phil" could have been cool.
You could have saved Phil Collins a small fortune. You obtained the Collins toms sound and they sound awesome.
