Thanx Manny great vid demo. My son n law purchased his first home and had a clogged toilet, he payed $700 dollars to snake the toilet, there were roots. A year later it clogged again and we rented a snake from HD at $40 for 4 hrs 75ft. We will be getting this snake, once again GREAT VIDEO THANKS.

Thanks for the awesome video! Actually you can snake even 150 foot with this machine. what makes it possible is the relatively inexpensive extension. Buy couple of 50 foot extensions, snake 50 foot, disconnect, attach second 50 foot segment and after 100 foot, disconnect, and use final 50 foot. Not even Home depot offer 150 foot snake machine. You don't need more than 50 foot inside the machine at any given time. One important tip if you want to make your machine last. The main bearing for drum is poorly lubed out of factory. So make sure you detach the drum (unscrew/loosen the bolts for motor mount and take off the belt), put it on ground with bearing/hub facing up and drop in some machine oil. Do this every other service and HF hydrostar will give you long useful service.

Nice video. I have a clog in my main drain (4 inch) that connects with the township street sewer pipe. I luckily have two clean out plug access points in my basement and my clog is about 22' in from my 2nd clean out plug just about 10 feet shy of the main street sewer. I had this clog before and a plumber cost me $200 to use his machine and unclog some lite roots. I know they say this machine is not for roots, but they are very lite in size like from a bush, not a tree, so hoping I can slowly chew through them like the plumber did with the same machine. I bought the 1/2" cable auto feed model, so again hoping this will work. Note: I actually did get the drain working again (before buying this machine) by ramming my garden hose into the clog many times aggressively, but if I use the washer it apparently drains too slowly and the water goes past the clog too slowly and hence backs up into my shower. Great video, I just rented a home depot Snake auto-feed 100 ft, for like 86.00 with 100.00 deposit for 4 hours. The same machine is sold at Harbor Freight for $249.99, and also the replacement cables $59.99. My wife bought me one, but she got me the one with auto feed $349.99. I couldn't get the 1/2" cable to feed into a 2" drain line under the kitchen sink, even without an attachment on the end because there was an immediate 90 degree elbow in the wall. It would have worked fine on a 45 degree turn I think. I wonder how well it would have worked to grind the connector ends some at the splice, butt them, and weld them together, and grind them to the diameter of the coil? I noticed there was some difficulty feeding it into and out of the drum at the splice. I think it's a good drain cleaner at a reasonable price.
Good to know the unit can accommodate another 50 ft section, but going through a P trap is sort of difficult, pulling the toilet which has a 3 or 4 inch drain or using a CO makes it feed a lot easier, thanks, good vid.
I have used the reverse very sparingly. When I'm done, I keep the machine in forward and pull the cable back in. As for WD40, never used it, but now that you mention it, I just might. I have noticed a bit of rust on the cable, but nothing to have a cow about.
Sir, did the xtra length continue to feed a work was expected? Did the motor continue to drive with out bogging or burning out? Lastly, did you put wheels on or put heavy (ier) machine on cart? Tks
Hello, The extra length fed and worked just as the first one. The motor did not bog down or lag. And yes, I did have to put it on a moving dolly. It was very heavy with the extra cable. I hope this helps and everything works out for you. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Since the first video I've used the snake 3 times with the same outcome, 52' in and the clog is gone. As for recommending.., YES. I haven't paid for a plumber yet and have helped my neighbor with his clogs as well. Buy it, use it, and you'll be a believer.
I just purchased the exact drain cleaner, but mine doesn't turn or anything other than a light hum. The belt seems to be extremely tight and I can't turn the drum by hand HF wasn't much help. Any ideas on getting it to run or loosening the belt up? Thanks

At first it seemed like your issue might have initially been the toilet, which was causing the clogged pipe to back up into your shower drain because it had no where else to go. I personally would have just gone through the cleanout since both the shower and toilet water drain out through the main sewer line. But since you had to switch your cable bit to a blade then it seems like roots are starting to grow into your sewer line. That's a whole new can of worms and is going to be an ongoing problem until you eliminate the root growth. Which would also indicate that they've cracked through your sewer line to get to the water because of a crack in your line. Yet another problem. Good luck and thanks for the video.

Depends. If the shower drain is crooked and bends at severe angle, it will be difficult to use full sized snake machine. If it's straight without much angles, then full sized snake will still work.
Ha, I think at that point I was starting to develop a kink in the wire.. didn't react to well to it and said some colorful words so I had to edit. If you start to see or feel a kink in the wire, stop the machine immediately and the tension in the wire should spin the machine back slowly and relive itself. If it doesn't, spin the drum back by hand and it will come back to shape. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching, 👍

good luck man! I just bought this a few days ago, and I almost gave up as I had tons of roots in my line, but I persevered and cleaned it out, saved some $$$$ for sure!
First off, let me say that I am not a pro. In my honest opinion, if the diameter of the pipe is larger than the recommended snake, then the cable may tend to twist and bind in the pipe a lot easier than a smaller pipe would allow. I believe if you go slow and steady, you may have success using this tool in a larger pipe. Remember, you can feel when the cable is binding, when you feel it starting, stop the machine, pull the cable back and start again. I hope this helps, thanks for watching and best of luck.

If the drum is wobbling try taking the cable out and repacking it. The cable may be off center. Before you pack it back though, check the drum to see if it's ok as well. The drum should spin evenly and quite. If not, the bearings may be bad on the drum. Hope that helps.

bruh you got balls putting a half inch cable through a 2 inch p-trap, surprised you didn't blow that shit up and if you're going that far for a shower drain clog, you got some fucking weird ass plumbing in your house, there's no way that JUST your shower has that much line before it meets up with something else, 99 times out of 100 it meets up with the toilet within a few feet beyond the flange also, yes, that was a root, cables usually don't pick up masses of roots unless they've been growing for years and years, the most you'll see is a little piece like that stuck in the coil, but that means there's plenty more down there
First off "bruh", please keep the colorful commentation off my page, thank you. Second, as this house was built in the early 50's, yes, it does have some weird stuff going on in it. Now, fortunately and unfortunately for me, the shower is down stream of the toilet in this case. Also, there is no p-trap. It drops straight into the waste pipe which is why I had to install a water trap in the shower basin, which acts like a p-trap. So far, I've had no issues with that trap. The problem I have seen is when we have a house full of guests and the toilets are used to no end. I've also asked my wife to change the brand of toilet paper we use, to one not so plush, which is a bummer because we all love soft paper... Anyway, thank you for your interest and I hope this answers your questions. ✌️
Run hot water not cold anything you stirred up in will get looser and flow better if hot the cold does the opposite I see time and time again when I go back to guys at works call back I ask if they run hot water every time they didn't I swear buy it I haven't had a call back not once since I run hot water
Hello Marshall, If by what you are saying is to run hot water down the pipe as I run the snake, then yes, that could help. I may not run hot water, but I'm running water none the less. As the snake progresses, it will knock things loose, and the running water will help to remove the obstacles. Also, we have to look at what is exactly clogging the pipe; sometimes hot water may not make a difference. If you have roots, hot water will not help you. If you have grease, and especially, if you have grease in a 4" pipe... You’ll want to run hot water to help with the flow. In my case, I do not believe I have roots. I think I may have a crushed or narrow pipe that needs repair. Regardless of that, that is another story for now. Thank you for watching, and best of luck to you.
An idea is to get a small hose clamp (or multiple clamps) and fasten it around where head joins cable. Then it's impossible for head to separate from the cable. Bit bulkier, but still fine for clearing most sewer drains. I have done this many times to ease my paranoia about losing head (or extension) in the sewer drain.

The cable has a memory and will form back to the drum its been in. Its like wrestling a snake, lol! It'll take you a minute but should go back in.

What could happen if you use the drain cleaner in a pipe that's bigger than four in let's say 8 in drain pipe or larger

I would have put some lock-tite on the connecting screw. You sure don't want for it come come lose.

The problem I have seen is when we have a house full of guests and the toilets are used to no end. I've also asked my wife to change the brand of toilet paper we use, to one not so plush, which is a bummer because we all love soft paper...

Run hot water not cold anything you stirred up in will get looser and flow better if hot the cold does the opposite I see time and time again when I go back to guys at works call back I ask if they run hot water every time they didn't I swear buy it I haven't had a call back not once since I run hot water

If by what you are saying is to run hot water down the pipe as I run the snake, then yes, that could help.
I may not run hot water, but I'm running water none the less. As the snake progresses, it will knock things loose, and the running water will help to remove the obstacles.
Also, we have to look at what is exactly clogging the pipe; sometimes hot water may not make a difference. If you have roots, hot water will not help you.
If you have grease, and especially, if you have grease in a 4" pipe... You’ll want to run hot water to help with the flow.
In my case, I do not believe I have roots. I think I may have a crushed or narrow pipe that needs repair.
Regardless of that, that is another story for now.

An idea is to get a small hose clamp (or multiple clamps) and fasten it around where head joins cable. Then it's impossible for head to separate from the cable. Bit bulkier, but still fine for clearing most sewer drains. I have done this many times to ease my paranoia about losing head (or extension) in the sewer drain.
