    I'm not going to lie---this brought a tear(s) to my eye as Ellen nailed that solo when Steve introduced her. It was also very awesome to see how generous all the other musicians were toward her on stage and how receptive the audience was. Long may you run Ellen

    I'm getting old. She looked so small on that stage and for a split second I worried she wasn't ready. Outstanding performance and she has now felt the thrill of the lights and atmosphere and the adoration of many. She has arrived.

      When I met Steve here in Mexico, indeed I realized he is very kind and very thoughtful. He transferred his knowledge to us like a great teacher, learning from the best it was an amazing moment.

      I saw him at the airport once and he was talking to a TSA officer for about ten minutes about guitars. Dude had a plane to catch but spent ten minutes talking to a TSO (those people that everybody hates because they have to search through your bags).

      I agree the guitarists ever competing got old quick with drift same old psychedelic riffs trying to hypnotize your groove putting the spot light on them instead of the blooming bassist. Narcisse gets really odd looking by comparison to humble talent

    Vai thrived under the generosity of mentors like Zappa when he was young, and so Vai understood that with that opportunity comes the responsibility to pay it forward.

      I like the fact that he stayed back during Ellen and the bands pre gig briefing, dunno if that was intentional but it would have made Ellen feel like part of the band, and she handled all of the instruction from Vai all on her own, very well done.

      Nili is already a renowned Guitarist and works on The Cirq Michael Jackson show, has had solo releases and is like 30 years old.... I think Steve wanted to jam with her as a contemporary because she is incredible not because he was trying to help her.

    I have been following Ellen’s journey and I got goosebumps thinking back not too long ago when her dad was teaching her to play the bass. And look where she is now. Such a confident and competent musician. A testament to her amazing parents!!!

      I sure hope she continues to grow and learn... and be taught and mentored. Over the years I've seen wizkids come and go... they sometimes get burned out for one reason or another. She seems to be loving it.

    I think my favorite part of that was when Steve and especially Philip kept Ellen engaged when the show focused on the guitars. I imagine it would have been easy to feel left out or overshadowed in that circumstance, especially with that great of an age difference, so it was nice to see them keeping her involved throughout. Always encourage the youth in the arts; not to make our lives better, but to make their lives better.

    What a thrill this must have been for young Ellen. She will always remember those moments she spent jamming with the legendary Stevie Vai.     It's a beautiful moment in a young musicians life when they get to perform with someone that they idolize. It's an even better moment when that idol is as genuine as Steve Vai. I love that he encouraged her to take her turn in the spot light instead of standing back on stage as most bass players do/are forced to do. Thank you Steve for encouraging and inspiring Ellen.     Great job, Ellen...You're on your way now...You just got a taste of being on stage with a legit star and an audience that loved you and your bass playing... I see you spending many years under those hot lights on stage thrilling the crowds...I don't know of any other 10 year olds that can say that they were on stage rocking out with Steve Vai...Let's not forget Ellen's dad Hovak...He taught her so well and was so patient with her and I never saw him get upset with her or raise his voice...Hovak is a loving father who is preparing his daughter for a lucrative career of her own...she will never have to work for anyone unless she wants to... That's the best gift any father can give to his child...Good job with her, Hovak...good luck in the future and keep being awesome...

    This video made me so emotional that was impossible to retain the tears. God bless you Ellen and bless also this fantastic human being called Steve Vai. I loved how he treated Ellen with so much love and respect as a fellow musician, estabilishing eye contact with her when talking and it may seen normal but , you know, that are things that only the greats do.

    Steve in one of the most gracious respectful musicians out there. Giving these two young musicians the spotlight. Ellen journey has really just begun and already has all the videos to look back on later in her life.     never been a vai fan but, he seems pretty sweet and down to earth.... she is a very lucky young lady to be in the position she is... she will go very very far in the music industry
