  • The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating an auto theft that occurred at approximately 2:50 P.M. on September 25, 2013. The theft took place at the Mercedes Benz Body Shop located at 122 Southwest 22nd Street in the City of Fort Lauderdale.
A male suspect walked into the main bay of the body shop and asked an employee about the types of body work services the company provides. The employee responded by directing the male to the office for assistance. The suspect then exited the shop and was seen wandering in the parking lot of the business.
Based on the surveillance footage, Detectives have learned that the male eventually returns to the business through a different entrance, and discovers a set of keys lying on the roof of a customer's vehicle. The unidentified male is seen running towards the vehicle, jumping into the driver seat and backing the vehicle out of the shop and onto the roadway.
An employee, who was crouched down working on the rear passenger side of this same vehicle, heard the sound of the engine and quickly jumped out of the way.
The suspect fled in a 2011 black 4-door Mercedes C300, bearing Florida license plate number ALCL37.
The suspect is described as a B/M, in his late teens, approximately 5'9" in height, 120 pounds in weight, short haircut, and clean shaven. The suspect was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with an unknown white graphic on the front and blue athletic shorts.
Detectives are urging anyone who may know the suspect's identity to contact Detective Amy Hoover at 954-828-5914 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
