- For Jay Shetty, finding his mentor at the age of eighteen brought him to a monkhood journey that inspired him to change his life trajectory.
If you are searching for wisdom on how to navigate the choices you are facing in life, this episode will deliver. Shetty and his mentor Gauranga Das discuss how to elevate your consciousness to explore the urges you have. You don’t have to live like a monk to think like one. Freedom awaits you!
I never knew people thought that way about Monks, even growing up in the Hood, I always thought of Monks as almost super human, humble souls, that had knowledge of the universe and amazing control over themselves and their minds.
Me to, like they were most holy. #DaHoodOfNY
I thought monks secretly road around in low riders and had lots of women and sex 😅😉
Yeah....they are highly discplined and their secret lies in their celibacy.
@@artivedi3887 yes you can... It's just a choice.
@@artivedi3887 it's all about mind control and perception. Monks or Sadhus are not superhuman, they come from all walks of life. They have the right understanding and although it's an extremely difficult journey they can overcome it with the right guidance from their Guru and self discipline and learning from the scriptures.
Principles Of Gita
1) Control the urge to get provoked (We are constantly being provoked in our life)
2) Control the urge to control the situation.(Many things in life are beyond our control)
3) Control the Urge to convince others. Control the urge to convince people to agree with your opinion or narrative.
4) Control the urge to compete. Many people are better than you at different levels. Your aim should be to add value to other life to the best of your ability.
Thank you!!
Thank you for summary!
Thank you 👍 it's a great insigh
Its not 'control' the urges...
.Its to ' tolerate' the urges....They two are entirely different processes....
❤
To tolerate a provoking situation is indeed a Virtue to develop. Thank you for bringing up this awareness.

This is so beautiful Prabhuji. I was mocking your book think like a monk when I first saw it, I was living in the ashram in soho london, and my brahmin friend actualy showed it too me xD. Now 1 year later, I left the temple, I am in a way fighting for my own now, and I regret the mockery made before. I feel realy sheltered by your podcast Jay Prabhu, and inspired to keep going. I stayed as a monk 3 years, and I an also very sensitive but have so much desire to be a better person and connect people to this wisdom, only I'm not in a good situation right now. So I take so much guidance listening to you, thank you very much.
Hare Krsna ❤
Excellent conversation, thank you very much! I can relate to everything you talked about.
Gauranga das Prabhu is brilliant. Best podcast ever. Clarity of wisdom that declutters our mind, helps us realise our true potential and act with love and compassion.
This should be our primary education. Thank you 🙏.

I love the way he looks at Jay. Almost like as if he saw him for the first time, even though he probably knows him for decades
So clearly explained Prabhuji 🙏
Love is all of selfless pleasing and tireless servicing .Freedom comes with discipline and detachment , being dutiful.....Many many Sradha and Pranam Prabhuji🙏
The word ‘religion’ is wildly different in its meaning between the East and the West. In the west, it is ‘prescriptive’ and following a book, its rules and they use many tactics to convert every person on earth to their religion (because their god is the only valid god, you don’t convert-you are going to hell). Eastern religions (actually philosophies) are ‘exploratory’ and deeply open ended and philosophical and do not force their ‘whatever’ on others. Because the basic philosophy is ‘there are several paths to the truth, yours is valid, mine is valid’. Christian missionaries, for example, spend billions every year just in India itself on religious conversion tactics. I saw this and experienced it personally.
There is also a downside to this. For an individual it's ok to be exploratory but as a community you need a prescriptive religion.
@@vijayvijay4123 you thinking is very superficial and basic. Human consciousness is too good to be bound by prescriptions written by some dumb religion.
@@1sr0 As a rule a community is very very different from an individual. That's where our nation failed . In modern times we have to take the best of what all religions has to offer.
Religion is man-made, religion is man-made. Yes Christ is King but Christianity does not conform to your definition of religion. Jesus came to save people from religious mindsets, the Pharisees and Sadducees and they exist today as you well know
@@codystewart3957 jesus may have been a great man, but Christians are intolerant.
Cant resist to comment..his analogy has just sparked a new perspective..that's called awakened soul in true sense
This CD has three separate relaxation/meditation sessions on it ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq guided by a very pleasant and direct male voice. Unlike so many other products of its type, this CD does not have bad synthesizer music, does not feature a phony or affected style of narration, and does not make any bogus claims to be subliminal or to re-train the brain or any of that balderdash. What you get is 1. a guided meditation for getting into a pleasantly relaxed state of body awareness while taking a stroll (superb for those easing back into a fitness routine slowly after an illness or injury) 2. A nice long breath-awareness relaxation session that if followed diligently can put you into very deep states of full-body relaxation and mental calmness, and 3. a buddhist-inspired meditation session designed to help you develop and maintain feelings of loving kindness toward not just yourself and your friends, but toward people you don't even like. The CD makes no claims to be designed for advanced meditators or for buddhists or hindus/yoga practitioners looking for very deep and esoteric stuff. It is geared more toward the average person who just wants to develop the habit of relaxation and stress relief through natural, healthy means. him, if you happen to be reading this, keep up the good work fella, and I love your accent. I would also like to note that I have never fallen asleep while listening to this product. I would like to kindly suggest to the reviewer who said this CD makes him fall asleep, that he might want to get checked to see if he has a sleep disorder, or if he is simply not setting aside ample time for restful sleep at night. A healthy person getting adequate rest at night should be able to go into deep states of mental relaxation without dozing off, if not all the time, then most of the time.
You can be emotional AND a strong leader.
God! I Loved every word of this enlightening talk! Even though I have always been spiritual and deeply rooted in God love, off late I have been feeling very hurt upset and overwhelmed seeing so many crimes and atrocities. Its heartbreaking to see people hurting others and so many wrong things happening around the world to innocent people that I started questioning why did God make the world such a bad place? How can a good God allow so much bad to happen?😥
It's painful to see so much suffering and darkness in the world but coming across this video I realised I need to keep my eyes on good people and focus on playing my role to do my best selflessly and to keep striving to grow and help others as much as possible....
Don't want to focus on wrong people and bad things...We need to stay focussed on good people and good things cuz there are many kind amazing inspirational people in the world too and so much good to do♥️
Thank you so much for this interview, it has eased my heart and helped me redirect my focus to higher understanding♥️
God bless 🌟
My feelings too…..would always wonder why humans hurt each other…….
Millionaires are made in crash, so the more stocks drop, the more I buy, in the meanwhile I'm just focused on making better investments and earning more, apparently there are strategies to 3x gains in this present market cos I read of someone that pulled a profit of $350k within 2months, and it would really help if you could make a video covering these strategies.
The strategies are quite rigorous for the regular. As a matter of fact, they are mostly successfully carried out by pros who have had a great deal of skillset/knowledge to pull such trades off.
I agree, before the pandemic got real serious, I used to handle all my investment and I was pretty good at it, fast forward to post-pandemic and my-portfolio is steady in the red with profit rate down to the lowest, that's when I touched-base with a coach I saw featured on businessweek, who restructured my portfolio and over the last couple years, I've made over $850k from initially $210K
I’m new to all this, heard it's a good time to buy and basically I've just got cash sitting duck in the bank and I’d really love to put it to good use seeing how inflation is at an all time-high, who is this coach that guides you, mind I look them up
"Jackson Sten Marsh." is the coach that guides me, you ca look him up on the web-site for further verification.
Thank you for this tip. it was easy to find your coach. Did my due diligence on him before engaging his services. He seems proficient considering him résumé.
Gauranga das is so good at storytelling.
This was an incredible experience for me. I come from a different religious and cultural tradition, but the explanations were all so easy to grasp and powerful: the story about the difference between pizza and New York pizza both made me smile and brought me wisdom.
Thanks for this video and for sharing your life experience and wisdom.
At 72, I am starting to see some of life's truths and learning more about love. This conversation was gift to me and I offer thanks for it.

...there are so many pieces of wisdom that are lost in translation from one language to another that our world as a whole has that if we were able to actually share and apply so many problems would become issues and disappear from there...
Thanks for the post, absolutely appreciated.
Great wisdom from two monks. I liked the perception of freedom by discipline, it's really a life changer for me.

I have incurred so much losses trading on my own..I trade well on demo. But I think the real market is manipulated. Can anyone help me out or at least tell me what I'm doing wrong
trading in the financial market is very volatile and risky to trade that's the reason most investors trade with a professionals
Trading with an expert is the best strategy for newbies and busy investors who have little or no time to monitor trade
Then, how can someone get a professional manager that is trustworthy and legit they are hard to find this days

Very beautiful description of someone that wants to change the world for good... Actions , actions, action do it all.
What he said is the best i've heard about love listening to him is like listening to a book just watching him from my home talking puts me in such beautiful state of love, hope, faith and harmony. He's such an incredible person and the world is so blessed for having him
I love you Jay Shetty. I bought Think like a monk, a couple years ago. Possibly more then 2 years ago. Read it 3 times. Each time growing tremendously. Worked through the book and integrating the shadow work. Wow. I can’t even put it into words. How much things changed. I share with everyone I meet near and far. Your first lesson in the Montessori, breathing. Breath work is our constant through life. If we learn to breathe through these experiences. Our experiences change, when our bodies reactions change. It aligned with my reiki master teacher certification, and crystal healing journey. My purpose is to help others along their healing journey within with reiki and crystals.
How could I get your help please?

Listening to this conversation feels like a meditation itself
Loved your conversation. So true the Monk is. And how amazing you are Jay Shetty. More love ❤ to you.
This is wonderful. But let me clarify one thing. Relationships might be pain but Love is not pain. Love is the ultimate healing Force. Thank you for sharing this.🙏
That's very true. People say "The truth hurts", but I disagree..Truth is Love, Love is Truth, it should never cause pain. If it does cause pain, it's not Love. Real and True Love kills pain, brings hope, encouragement, and kindness. Since God is Love, it is said "With God, all things are possible." Meaning, with God's Love, the impossible becomes possible, this could not be congruent or synonymous with pain.
Namaskar Jay. Gauranga Das has answered each of your questions with outstanding clarity and depth. I was thrilled and felt enthusiastic to continue watching the video. I am very grateful to you for uploading this video. I am going to send the link to my friends and like-minded acquaintances. This video gives a message to the viewers that there is no substitute for spiritual practice to get everlasting happiness and contentment. You are using the teachings of your Mentor for selfless pleasing and tireless service. I am grateful to Gauranga Das for sharing his knowledge in simple and comprehensible words. God bless you both. Wish you all the best in your endeavour. Keep it up, dear Jay. Gratitude !
Monks just been through quite a bit of different experiences, and through those experiences they managed to calm their emotions and their way of thinking to live a better life overall.
This came at a serendipitous moment for me, thanks so much, now I feel a small window is opening up for me after some hardship and perspective change...

This is so amazing. I've been reaching your "Think like a monk" book and I'm more than half way done. Love it, then I see in your videos here on RUclips the name " Gauranga Das" and I said wait a minute! That's his teacher he mentioned in the book! Lol I got so excited and said I have to watch this video. This was so amazing. I'm soo glad you were able to do a video with him. His wisdom really had me stuck on the video, and its funny because its many things ive heard you say and mention in the book. It shows that youve learned alot from him and being a Monk for sure. Jay, you truly are incredible. Your book is so so good and it's so needed for me nowadays with everything I'm going thru. Sending you many blessings. ❤️
It was really a deep conversation. Learnt lots of new insights about living life and upliftment of one's soul along with selfless service for the world around us. Thank you 🙏🏻

Access consciousness are same in every religion so let's do it in our own faith. We need to focus on our good characters and values and introspect ourselves. ❤❤
I think that we should appreciate the Baghavat Gita that made him such a good person to the world. Why Baghavat Gita is not recognised yet even in n India.
