When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically - any woman. I was a hitter. I couldn't express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women.

Only later in life--perhaps in my 30s---did I come to the conclusion that an education was meant to make me a better person as opposed to a more qualified employee in the pursuit of making money. An education should not be about a "job", but about fulfillment.

I am 60 years young. You are blessed-to have come to realizations that it takes most of us a lifetime to learn- let alone practice. We ARE bombarded. We don’t find time to breathe, we have ridiculously high expectations of ourselves. BUT we have everything we need inside us already. We just need to take the time to rap into our possibilities. We are enough! What would I tell my younger self? BE FEARLESS and ALWAYS BE KIND.

Thinking of becoming monk is different from becoming a monk. Learning any language or culture or anything will not make you a monk. Becoming monk is effortless but nobody can withstand that effortless way of living by detaching ourself from rest of the world living in the world. A normal soul becomes monk soul when he/she knows how to be calm in all situations.

The secret lies in your passion. Your passion becomes your purpose in life, when you use it in making contribution to the world at large. Fortunately, everyone in the universe has a hobby or passion for something. There's no worthless person in the universe. It's the self-awareness that's simply lacking.

I was so sad for a long time so I started to meditate and do any kind of therapy... I started to study psychology, then NLP and Hypnosis and Time line therapy and energy healing... I went to Tony Robbins seminars, 5 week NLP / Hypnosis Trainings, Energy healing courses... then I found a Monk a few months after I woke up... Just by being in his presence you would feel Love and Peace and total clarity... it was so relaxing. So I decided to become like this!

I survived a fatal accident (I was hit by a jeep) at the age of 4. It was a miracle considering the severity of my injury and remoteness of my village. I learnt that entire village helped my parents in keeping me alive. Ever since that accident, I grew up to be immensely sensitive. I began to believe from my childhood that to remain happy as I live is extremely essential. I dreamed of 'Happiness' to prevail at all corners of the world. These emotions in my head led me write a book titled "Heaven Descends on Our Earth", which tells the story of the young people's revolution to usher in peace and happiness across the world. My soul will not rest unless I am able to share these feelings with many people across the world.

While watching this from a certain point of time it reminded me of when I was in 5th grade and I didn't have a book to read but I carried around a dictionary my father gave me. In class, during reading time I would take it out and go through the alphabet because I didn't know where to start but my teacher would yell at me, "YOU CAN"T READ A DICTIONARY" and it made me doubt myself for doing this. I was naturally inclined to be self-conscious because it was considered abnormal but looking back at it now I wish I continued despite her objections. My father taught me that words are powerful and I wanted to prove to him that I was doing the work he desired of me, despite not knowing his good intentions.

Jay, just recently subscribed. With tears I thank you. As a husband and father of 3 beautiful children, my prospective in life has changed. Your quote " We have a list for the one that we want but we don't have one for the one we need to become (to understand yourself first)"was an eye opener. Thank you my brother and keep up the good work. A reminder to "Never" stop refining your "Why" nor "Difining" your intentions.

Today I just received this remarkable and amazing book. I have read through many page’s, what is more I think I am addicted to this. I knew it that I will gain knowledge of the best lessons of my life from this amazing book ever. Since, I already have learned the greatest lesson of my life from Jay Shetty Sir. Because of this book I come to know plenty of thing my passion, commitment and the most significant is patience. And I am confident that I will learn more by this book. Thank so much for writing this book to all of us and educating us best lessons of our life. You don’t have to be a monk to think like a monk. Well, this book clarifies us a lot .When you think like a monk you’ll understand .How to prevent overthinking, How to overcome fear, how to overcome negativity, how to learn from each and every person you meet, why compassion and gentleness is vital to success and much more. It feels amazing to take a short moment out of my busy life to spend it on studying on how to be a improved version of ourself , and hopefully by this, create a healthier life for ourselves. I highly recommend this book to someone who ever has self-doubt & feels lost. if u want to buy the book from amazon buy this from that link

I lost my brother to cancer before he had cancer he was into drugs and he ended up in sex trafficking in 1995. I'm just now realizing all that he went through 9 years after he died. I also lost a cousin who had too many DUIs to live in this state. He had to move to a different state and ended up getting hit by a semi truck in the mountains. The state of Wyoming. Those 2 life-changing events happened in my 20's. It's things like this that happened in our lives that make us change our perspectives and live a happier life because of it if we choose the right path. Living on purpose is what we need to do to thrive to live the longest we can! I did lose my joy for a while during my grief meant. But I am slowly gaining my joy and confidence back to face the world.

Tom, you are my favorite host! You always listen intently to your guests and interject only when needed (e.g., to ask a question that you know or suspect that your audience is thinking. Some hosts constantly comment and interrupt the speakers and I personally find that distracting and annoying. Thanks for providing these enlightening videos!

Meher Baba stated in the 1930's something like,
"The film makers of Holly-wood have a responsibility to deliver films that uplift the spirit and convey deeper meanings to these struggles we experiance in life." . . . Jays insights at the end are prophetic . . . It has to be this way and he's pegged it! 💖

Literally crying here 😰 there is so much in my heart and I believe I have a very old soul which craves to share love , compassion and simplicity, but not sure where do I start it from 😳 I want to go deep inside me and Dig out something good for me and my surroundings, but how ? Lnv

    • @ingridnjono1500
      @ingridnjono1500 5 лет назад +2

Exactly what I feel too craving to share love, compassion and simplicity. I also don’t know where to begin. But I can picture myself to uplift others. Perhaps, we can start from self healing and self mastery and teach our closest friends that is important to us and practice what we have learn to them. That way, we slowly shape our ways towards our calling. Teaching our close family/friends what we know will give us more responsibility to want to do more of our calling.

Your vibration is that of a monk Jay. If everyone had your mentality Jay, the world would be peaceful. I listen to this video every morning for inspiration. You say that not everyday do you hear "lets invite the monk over". I go back to vietnam yearly, and I see monks almost everyday of my life. You can say I am very similar to you Jay growing up with the pressure of education. lol being bad and getting good grades comment hits home. When a person excersices selfless service, it opens up a world that not much people know about. I have a burning passion to always want to help people around me. I am currently working towards my goal of creating an App that can change the world for the better. Your videos give me inspiration and your pressence and vibrate gives me hope that there are people out there that are still fighting back against all the negative in this world.

The relationship stuff...wow. Just wow. What do I need to become. We don't have a list of what we need to become, we focus more on the qualities in others....figure out who you are. What do you need from a relationship....who are you. Beautiful, struck home for me.
