this helped me so much cus im doing track for the first time and i’ve been to 2 practices and they haven’t really explained anything or what anything means and that really scares me and this video explained a lot thank you
Im a freshman who’s trying track and I’ve NEVER ran it before and literally know nothing about it so I was wondering can you only do running or do you have to do field activities?
Whatever events you do is the events you usually choose. I use to only do running events in aau track. I started long jump later on. So unless your coach tells you otherwise then you’ll choose.
Thanks for the basics. I’ll be teaching track and field to our homeschool group classes from 4yrs old, all the way to teenagers. I never ran track and I HATED long jump in PE when I was in jr high. Haha
At my school tryouts are going to be starting shortly after our winter break and I've never done Track before so I'm a bit nervous. I also have social anxiety and I'm kinda insecure about the way I run, but I'll try my best.
do not over think it. you will do great, over break make sure you are conditioning so you are in some what shape for tryouts. but this sport is perfect if you have social anxiety, you can choose to interact and gain friends and family or stay to yourself and just grind.
@@keko8151 it matters on the event your doing but i personally hate running more than one lap so i would do 300 and 400 repeats and run like at least 1 mile at the beginning or end of the workout. Also try to get into the weight room as much as possible.
Okay I have so many questions. If you could take time to answer em I really appreciated it. Okay so I'm going to be a freshman this coming year and I want to try out for track and I'm training now so my questions are: 1. Can I choose what I want to do? And if so how many can I pick? 2. Can I wear swear pants to a track meet or do I need to wear shorts. 3. Can I wear spandex to a track game and meet or does it have to be jogger shorts? 4. Can I bring my own blocks?
I’m not sure if you need this response now but i’ll answer the questions for you! 1. Most coaches will start you out with the 100,200, and the 400 and then they will see what you can do from there. Later on when you have a feel for your events is when you pick what you want to do and build from there! 2. Most coaches will let you wear team sweats to warm up before the meet but if you’re running on the track they won’t let you wear anything but your uniform 3. it depend on what your coaches say 4. You should be able to bring your own blocks but some coaches/meet officials will provide some so it just depends on if you would like to bring yours or use the ones provided This is all from personal experience and if you want to know everything exactly then you should talk to your coach because everything varies from region to region. Hope this helps and have a happy new year 🎉🎉🎉
1.your coach will choose what you want to do , but if it’s something you would like to do in particular and your coach think that’s what’s good for you then they would put you in it . ( yall have to be on the same page) 2. You can wear sweatpants, but when you and your team arrive at the meet you all would warmup in team sweats . so yall would all be warming up in the same sweats. ( so it would be better to just wear the team sweats there bc as soon as yall get there yall would be warming up ) 3. depending on if your coach let you, you can run in some spandex shorts if not you have to wear what they provide . But i know my school we have to wear either the shirt or shorts to represent our school 😭 im pretty sure that’s every school 4. You should be able to . but you don’t have to bc they provide it . ( not all)
i’m a freshman and i’m extremely out of shape but i want to get healthier and do a sport (i quit volleyball last year) so i’m looking into track but i don’t think i should
Track is the perfect sport to do when your just trying to get into shape. It conditions you for other sports too, so if you do go back to volleyball, you would be ready.
(Late comment) I have a question, I feel insecure about showing my legs or arms can I still do track or will I be force to show my legs and arms please help me out thanks.
Omggg yes you can still run track. I know that at my school you only need the uniform in general on but if you choose to wear a long sleeve shirt or compressions under your uniform than that is fine.
I’m not sure what to do, track and field starts in a week at my school, and i’d try out but it’s a no cut sport. My dad said if I start it I cant quit, but I’m in bad shape and i’m horrible at running. Not sure what to do, but i really wanna be involved in a sport!!
i was in the same boat last year and in my school it’s not that hard and i really enjoyed it i was also out of shape and still kinda am, but i love track now and i think you should do it !!
i have the same exact problem but i am aloud to quit if i want and i started track like 3 days ago and i’ve never done a sport and i don’t really know how it works or what all you can chose and all that
@@jameeliz how much would you say you improved in the span of 2-3 months? I’m like really out of shape and I joined track 2 weeks ago and I just wanna know how long to took for you to gain endurance? Like, it’s so hard for me to normally jog for over 2 minutes, I have to jog really slowly
@@randomshitaccount6050I really recommend doing cross country, I was an average runner and could run a mile in 9 minutes. After the season I can comfortably run 2 miles, my mile is now 6:10. Try to find a time to just run half a mile everyday, you can increase this but half a mile doesn’t take up much time.
At tryouts you will get timed and that’s how you usually get it. But if they ask just say it’s your first time and you still need to get timed. Don’t worry though, there will be many more like you.
Hi! I want to try out for track freshman year? My mile time is around 8:15, Half mile is 3:35, and my 100 meter was about 16 seconds. I got around 10 feet on my long jump. I’m still practicing and learning but do you think i could be near the requirements of track team? What were your times before you starting track?
I would say do the mile as it’s your best time and lowering a long distance time in my experience is easier than shaving off seconds in a sprint, the average for a girl in the mile is about 7-8 minutes for JV Varsity being give or take 6:30 and the 100 meter is sub 12 seconds
i have a question so what happens if you don’t make the team can i still like go to practices but not compete or anything like that because i want to get more fit and i like running but i’m not very good and i don’t want to compete sorry if this is a stupid question
No it’s not stupid at all. So usually yes, again it’s based off your team. But i know that on my team there are people who just come to practice to get into shape. And half my team doesn’t have the best times but they still practice and try hard and my coach lets them run at all comers meets. I hope this helps.💕
Im started track this year and I did a couple other sports before this.I start around April and im kinda nervous about tryouts. Can you tell me about how tryouts work?
Basically in tryouts, how my school works is that all the new runners will get timed and there will be a cut off for the varsity team. when you first get there you will most likely do drills and stretches like a normal practice, then get timed. And if you end up doing field events, your coach may set a cut off for that too. But it’s very lowkey, just go there and get in your bag.🏆
I am definitely pro spikes. I never cared before but this year after practicing in running shoes then putting on my spikes and doing the same workout, i could drastically see a difference. If you don’t have spikes or you aren’t comfortable in them then that’s ok. But i would encourage spikes.
My son has an all day invitational coming up, what are things your parents pack for you on those types of events? What type of snacks, type of food, clothing, idk what else you might.
I would suggest packing a lot of his light weight snacks but also maybe a carb cookie or protein bar. He can eat the snacks right before a race but the protein bar in a break of schedule so he can have something with more nutrients. Also maybe a sandwich and lots of water and gatorade for the electrolytes. I’m more of a scarce eater at meets, i bring lots of food as an option but eat very little. For clothing make sure you bring layers, even if it’s suppose to be hot. Recently i had a meet that was very hot at the start but as the meet continued it got really cold. I like to bring a hoodie, sweatpants, long sleeve shirt, my letterman jacket (or any heavier jacket), and my blanket. I really suggest a blanket because it is very easy to maneuver when your cold and have to hurry and take it off before a race. Any extras i would suggest is just like extra spike replacements and extra socks just in case they get wet or if he jumps, too dirty.
this whole month I'm going to do 3 mile runs 5 days a week to condition, I'm just gonna try my best but need an opinion on what you think i should do to prep :(
It’s looking great!!! Wow i mean 3 miles is good and a lot but also do some plyo’s and weight training. But your in great shape for tryouts and to become an amazing track runner. Doing almost any sport before track is helpful.
I’ve been doing outdoor and indoor track since middle school but my new doesn’t have indoor track and i don’t feel like sitting and doing nothing. How do i join a indoor track club or just any track club?
Yea i struggled with the same thing. My district doesn’t have indoor so i researched track clubs around me to find a team. I also asked my coach and i had track teams interested in me, but some were too far and i also didn’t have the time because i did other fall sports so i was unable to. But if you just do research and ask your hs coaches then they can help you tremendously.
Most definitely not. Track is an everybody sport, anyone can do it but only few are the best. And if you start training now you still have a chance to be a beast this season.
So I am doing track for the first time and I’m going into middle school so do I have to tryout and can I only do one thing like a 100 meter run or like discus
It depends on your coach. I know many one event athletes but it is best to try multiple when your a new comer so you know which event is actually YOUR event.
Usually up to your coach and how good you are. If you are really good they may keep encouraging you to do meets. But you don’t have to, you could just train to get in shape.
Personally I wear socks with my trainers/running shoes( that don’t have spikes, and take off my socks to put on my spikes, partly because it probably would feel too tight with my socks on in my spikes anyways
