Its official, Despicable Me is the new Ice Age. Note that Chris Meledandri was an executive for the first 4 Blue Sky movies. When he founded illumination in 2007, he brought in a couple of ex Blue Sky people and it shows a lot.
The first Ice Age was alright though. At least Ice Age had some interesting ideas. Illumination is just bad overall.
The part where Gru says “It’s Gruin’ time!” before he Gru’ed all over the place.
Truly a sequel to the hit film Minions: The Rise of Gru.

While Pixar is making comeback (For now at least) with Inside Out 2, lllumination is suffering with Despicable me. I’m still planning on seeing it despite the negative reviews it’s getting, but hearing that it has too many sub plots and not having the characters age is pretty sad for me. Having too many sub plots in one movie can possibly be too much for the audience to understand and not having the characters age is pretty dumb. Heck if you remember from the third movie Gru said “She’s 12 and will always be 12” and he was literally right.
They should've aged up at LEAST 2 years, I feel this movie is only worth seeing in theaters if you like being in a theater if that makes sense 😂

@@xenophonanthony2791 Well I saw the other three Despicable Me movies so I had to see it and let me just say it was boring. It felt like that they were just putting random scenes together to make one full movie. They could’ve made Despicable Me 4 into a series instead. The three things that I liked about the movie was the animation, the jokes, and the three minions that went with Gru and his family to the safe house everything else “Meh.” Inside Out 2 was better.

It feels like they asked 5 different writers to write a script for this movie, of which they would choose the best one.
however the writers only had 1h to come up with something before it was time to create the film, and since no one validated for a whole film, they decided to make a film from 5 scripts.
They just don’t care to make good movies. I kind of don’t even want to call them filmmakers. How about slopmakers?
Little fun fact about my experience with this movie, I get to see a free private screening in one of my movie theaters and I had a good time watching the movie

I liked Gru’s original personality. Annoying, rude, and Despicable. Hence, why he wanted to be a supervillain. People didn’t respect him when he was a kid. Not even his mother. Maybe Illumination could bring that back into Despicable me 5, all the villains escape from prison, and wreak havoc.
You see, the first movie was almost as good as the first MegaMind movie. Vector stealing the Pyramid of Giza. And eventually edging onto Gru’s plan to steal the moon.
Despicable me movie concept:
Maybe one of the returning villains could be Vector and Mr Perkins could get his job back at the Bank of evil, OR this could be another prequel of Despicable Me, (idk a name) but Gru realizes his old arch rival villain. Gru is trying to steal the worlds Biggest Diamond, while his arch rival stole the crystallizer rifle, (turns anything with the gun into pure crystals or gold [midas touch]) the villain then will use the crystallizer to steal the most expensive car in the world to then turn it into gold. In the meantime, Gru broke into a top secret facility that contains exotic luxurious items, he disabled the security systems using the latest invention Nefario created. Gru hacks into the mainframe security and disables all security, he then goes into the secret basement and steals the diamond. He then flew back to his lair, only to realize when he turned on his tv, someone had stolen the crystallizer rifle 5000, Gru gains awareness of it and uses his ship to fly to his lair and steal the crystallizer, he gets away undetected! The villain realizes someone stole his possession and uses his high security system to see who stole it, realizes and flies to Grus evil lair. The villain then steals His shrink Ray and shrinks and kidnaps all his minions. He then flies after the villain. Got his minions back but the villain shrunk his ship. Later the next day, he asks Dr Nefario to create an invisibility suit to sneak past the villains high security. Dr Nefario makes it and try is on his way. But by the time he gets to his fortress, he already stole the most expensive car. He steals the crystallizer gun and set his airship to autopilot, he then tries to crystallize the villains ship and it works, the ship becomes so heavy it falls to earth but surprisingly doesn’t get damaged. Gru then heads back to his lair and encounters the villain outside his house. He then crystallizes the villain and breaks into his lair once more and steals the most expensive car and his shrink ray. He then sells the car he crystallized and became rich. Dr Nefario reverts the shrink ray effects on the minions and they return to normal. Dance party at the end for celebration, the end.
yea, since in every movie besides 2 they refrence his more "evil" side. They need to make like a different 2nd movie where gru is still evil instead of just being way under powered and switches personality way too fast.
Actually. I like that idea. But if I were to make a film related to Despicable Me. I would give Gru's daughters/the Gorls their own spin-off film as they are literally one of the most underutilized characters in these follow up films.
Here's my idea on what the plot for a spin-off film/prequel for them could be: (and yes it's similar to the Powerpuff Girls Movie.)
The film can start out with a flashback origin showing how the girls' parents died and how it affected them. Then during the flashback it can show the three of them linking together and being sent to Miss Hattie's Orphanage from the first film for the first time. After the flashback is over, we can then cut to the Girls trying to fit in with their peers, along with them meeting Miss Hattie to. Afterward, we can then have a scene where Miss Hattie will began to have the girls sell and deliver cookies just like they did in the first film. And we can get a scene of the Girls doing this for the first time but along the way, have a brief moment where the Girls feel sorrow or get jealous of seeing other kids with their parents while they are out and then ofcourse this can be where we are introduced to the villain of the movie(idk what the villain's name would be. But he would be in a disguise, first) as he would be holding an invention in his hand that looks similar to Agnes' unicorn toy and when the girls bump into him and cause him to accidentally drop his invention, along with Agnes dropping her toy to, he'll lash out at them rudely as he'll then unknowingly grab Agnes' stuffed unicorn toy while Agnes grabs his invention unknowingly to and the girls, resume their cookie deliveries to (and a little funny moments where some antics delivering cookies can happen to here) but when the girls get back to Miss Hattie's and reveal to her that they didn't sell enough cookies as they were supposed to, we can get a scene of her belittling the girls like she did in the first movie and also scolding them for not doing as they were told. Then after that we can then have a scene of the Girls getting ready for bed as they are in their pajamas and are watching TV at night, and as they watch TV, they can funnily watch a news report of the villain they just encountered(but he's in his real and true identity on the news report) but the Girls are oblivious to who he is, and after the news report they can switch through a bunch of random channels until Agnes sees one with a unicorn show and they can flip back to the channel with the unicorn show on it, much to Edith's annoyance... and this scene would also be a great moment for some nice bonding and characterization between the girls here to.
After that scene, the next day will then have the Girls on their way to sell cookies again but upon them selling cookies, Agnes begins to play with what she thinks is her stuffed unicorn toy and then while Margo and Edith have their backs turned and are at the door trying to sell the cookies, Agnes in the background can accidentally trigger the villain's invention by pressing a feature that causes it to fly off and destroy everything and as the invention grabs Agnes, Margo and Edith will hear her screams and will QUICKLY notice as they try and help her but they get dragged down with her and caught in the crossfire. And as the invention begins to go off, it can began destroying everything and causing everyone around to scream and run off and it can even go into traffic and cause car crashes. And while this is going on, the villain would be nearby shopping or something and he will watch and notice that that is his invention that the girls are riding on and it is then that he'll finally notice that he has Agnes' stuffed unicorn toy in the place of his invention much to his own shock. And as the invention continues on destroying everything in its path, the police will chase after it and will get involved with this to and as this happens, the invention will finally stop as it crashes into a store or a building causing the girls to get flung off. And finally, the girls will see ALL of the damaged that they had accidentally caused to the city, and the citizens and bystanders will get PISSED off at them and began to hate the girls and shun them. After that the police then returns the Girls back to the orphanage, resulting in Miss Hattie being PISSED to as she then makes them sit in the "Box of Shame" as punishment. And with the girls feeling unwanted and that they caused enough trouble, they will then sneak out of the orphanage and will run away in which causes more problems for them as Miss Hattie calls the police to look for them and find them after they escape. (And we can get a scene of the Police finding the girls and a chase scene where the Girls escape the police).
Afterward, the Girls will be on the streets alone by themselves as it begins to rain, and upon it raining the Girls will see news reports of what they did earlier on the News through a bunch of TVs on a window display in a store, once more causing them to feel bad and ashamed. Then afterwards the girls will walk to an alley and will be ambushed by a gang of crooks that attempt to beat them up, before being saved by the villain of the movie...and as the girls are shocked to see him and they thank him for saving their life, the villain at first brushes them off but the Girls insist on still talking to him, and it is then that the villain hatches an idea to then gain the girls' trust by pretending to be nice to them, and manipulating the three of them into stealing these parts for his weapon to conquer the world with, as afterward...he'll then send the girls' directions to these top secret bases where parts to the invention are, as he also sends them on wild goose chases to acquire the needed parts. After that the villain further gains their trust some more by unofficially adopting them and calling them "his daughters". And later on in the film and during the final battle or climax of the movie, once the villain reveals his true plan to the Girls and when the Girls find out that they been lied to, the town will hate them EVEN more and when the girls work up the courage to believe in themselves, they'll save the town as they then will defeat the villain. And after the villain is defeated, everyone will then respect them and love them for saving their lives. And in the end, the girls will get sent back to the Orphanage as the other orphans will began to respect them to, and even Miss Hattie will as she'll lift their "Box of Shame" punishment for saving the world, and then afterward we can get a reanimated scene of the scene from the first movie where the girls are getting adopted by Gru, leading up to the events of the first movie.
I loved the first two movies when it was more heartfelt and was about Gru learning and changing along with the relationships he has with people that changes his life better and better but now it’s just really stagnant and just, boring. It’s really sad as I actually liked the minions as companions to Gru rather than having their own plot away from him aside from 2 or 3 tagging along with Gru the whole time. It’s sad that we don’t get much time just seeing the characters interact so it’s just losing the heart and soul it once had.
My guess as to why Gru Jr. doesn't like Gru is because he just gets the minions to do all the parenting for him
i think gru Jr. is the opposite of the more "nice" gru and only likes him when they pull of the heist.

This proves that FRANCHISES SHOULD NOT HAVE 4 OR MORE MOVIES. I know they do it for cash grabs or think people want it, but the thing is, no matter how liked a franchise is, there is always a limit of it before it goes/falls down.
Illumination was always about making cash grabs though. Their movies were never good.

I just got done watching the fourth film earlier today. Here are me thoughts of ze films, and Minions as well.
The first film is always a classic, and Vector is iconic
Second one was pretty good, and El Macho was a great villain. Lucy had a great debut here too.
Minions was carried by Scarlet and the film was pretty gud.
DM3 I feel is the most underrated one of the series, and Dru was a fun character.
Rise of Gru and its pretty epic memes made the film better and I really enjoyed it.
The fourth film was actually really good??? Will Ferrall as Maxime carried the entire thing and I can say this is in my top films of the year so far. The Minions also might have some of my favorite moments of theirs in the franchise here imo.

I thought all their movies were bad.
Despicable Me 4 had way too many subplots that wasn’t able to be finished, in favor of the main plot, which is even worse.
In my opinion, they could’ve had the beginning as the same, with Gru and the AVL arresting Maxime Le Mal, but instead of swearing his revenge publicly, he’d break out of prison and kidnap Grus family, turning Gru back into a cold villain.
He’d enlist the help of Dr. Nefario and his minions to assist him with finding his family, the stakes would be risen as Maxime lures Gru to his location so him and his girlfriend can kill them all.
Seeing how Dru did in their heist when they took the Diamond, he finds him and recruits him to the team.
In the final battle, Maxime Le Mal and Valentina vs. Gru, Dru, The Minions and Dr. Nefario, resulting in the death of Maxime and sacrifice of Nefario, earning him his family back.
If we’re gonna be honest here, Dr. Nefario’s appearances have been getting degraded since the second movie, and are now two second cameos, there’s no point to keep him, so make the movie have higher stakes and let him rest.
There’d be a post-credits scene afterwards, showing Valentina survived, she’d be the villain of Despicable Me 5.
The only good films in this franchise were Despicable Me 1 and 2 and 3 and the minions solo movie

Despicable Me 4 is A Meh Movie, The Villain Was Great, But The Story is Messy, The Characters Are Funny, And The Mega Minions Are Okay, I Say It's Going To Be A Success At The Box Office, Will Ferrell Did A Great Job As The Villain Of The Movie, Just Please ILLUMINATION Make A Good Despicable Me Movie

I feel like it would've been better if Maxine was the fake out villain and Poppy was the main twist villain. Hear me out. Having a child be the villain of one of these movies not only would've been a fun idea, but it could've also brought the girls back to the forefront. Have Gru be the one that needs to be saved, and the girls go up against Poppy. A total role reversal of the first movie's climax.
If Despicable me 4 was like Trolls 3; adding new stuff to the franchise, being funny AND creative; the movie would be better! For exemple; Agnes and the others could be older and aren't sure if they want to be spies or do another job. Gru and Lucy could help them. Add a bit of action, a training montage, Lucy reading a story to the girls. At the end, the family fight the villain together like in Incredibles 1 and 2. Sounds like a fun story to me 🙂

We were able to see villians from past movies so that was a good thing to experience.
I think Dispicable me is just turning into the new shrek honestly. Everyone loves the first (first 2 in shreks case) and then it falls off after getting milked for so long.
Shrek 4 was pretty mid, but shrek 3 was on par with 1 imo and Puss in boots is underrated, TLW was a banger
My main problem is that the mega minions didnt have enough screen time. They showed up for like a couple of scenes for some gags and that was it. Which is really ironic considering the main marketing around the movie was the mega minions. Even the final battle BARELY had them, which was the part I was most excited for because i really wanted to see them fight with the villain.
Glad I watched inside out 2 instead of this film it was definitely worth my time and money more than this atrocity

I don’t really hate them though, I just can’t stand their movies and lack of effort.
I’ve been saying it for years the first film had more subtlety to its humour and way more emotional moments. Also Vector’s dad, the head of the villain bank, should’ve been the over arching villain trying to get revenge on Gru.
Maybe each villain in the sequels could’ve been contracted by him to try and take down Gru, making Gru fear for the safety of his girls. What do you think?
I have a feeling he’s been an overarching villain the whole time in the series without you noticing. I mean, how else have El Macho and Balthazar Bratt been able to pull off their heists? They must’ve gotten money from the Bank of Evil.

Look, I have not seen this video yet, but let me just say. Despicable Me 4, was a super fun and hilarious time. The whole movie just had me hooked for the whole runtime. I was laughing so much, and so was everyone in the theather (I'm 19 btw). If you went in looking for a Ratatouille level move, The Incredibles, or Up, you've got the wrong idea. My advice: Just go into the movie to have a genuine fun time. Relax, laugh... That's it. This movie just felt naturally good. Even though the villain is mid, it allowed for the rest of the movie to be even more awesome.
I tried that and still hated their movies. I can’t even think of something I liked. Illumination is terrible.
I'm not even going to watch these. I will watch them in years to come when they are put on the channels on TV.
I only saw this movie with my mom and sister for my 2 year old brother (all he wanted was the minions) and... yep, it might be time to start a petition for Illumination to let this franchise rest.
This is the thing about Illumination they make movies that appeal to the masses that they are soft non-offensive movies that doesn't really give a challenge to the viewer who watch the movie that they make
They are offensively bad. Their films have no competent scripts and are painfully unfunny. This is the worst studio in Hollywood and I don’t understand how someone can disagree.
I like miranda’s idea better on what if the 3 girls became supervillains? I was hoping for that plot to happen but it didn’t.

Honestly I think the villain was the best character. It’s kinda like a good villain in a poorly executed movie. I think it was a good movie overall with an amazing main plot, yet i feel it was all over the place. the sideplot with Poppy made no sense and was completely unnecessary.
the villain, however, i think was the best part and i thought he was a genuine threat with the fact that he wanted to KIDNAP A BABY all over being humiliated in high school (not to mention wanting to turn the baby into a mindless, cockroach slave)

Man, it seems like the year were sequels. Just come to flop, mostly with movies they have a fourth entry. On the top of my head, I can only think of kung fu panda four and well Despicable Me 4. Is that really sucks that they’re not aging up the characters like that strange it will feel weird. Like if you’re expanding upon your story and your characters are the same age. It had a place in Ward. It reminds me of those anime memes when a character is a little girl, but they’re actually 10,000 years old. And if this movie succeeds, that’s not even gonna be great either because have a much bigger influence and that will just motivate other companies not to age up their characters. It’s gonna be point time where you got age of the characters.
Well we have inside out 2, you forgot to mention that, many people say that’s the only good sequel that came out this year

The first film was serviceable and cute; inoffensive rather. The second film was pointless. Did not bother seeing the third due to how tired and transparent the studio is with churning out cheap-ass trash to make easy returns.

The creators of DM3 and 4 tried to make Despicable Me 4 a great movie just like they tried to make Despicable Me 3 but, they weren’t Allowed to put great ideas into them. I have a feeling that movies are being sabatoged.
The karate kids scene. The Lucy and Gru vibing 🎾 and Lucy and kids scenes were cute.I loved the minons scenes and the hiest with the 🦡 was beautifully animated and instense. Will Ferrrell could've put his signature mark on the character the way Troy Parker did with B.B in dm3. I thought many parts made it as enjoyable as the last dm movies. Just the plot was unclear af. I saw in in D-Box 📳🛫✈️ and Id see it again in 3d but I recommend everyone who likes funny animations goes to see inside out 2 first.
Rise of Gru and Despiciable Me 1 are the best this series has to offer
And Minions was pretty good too
I feel like in order to do all the plots and have the movie be good; they’d have to either:
A. Make it a series
or
B. Make the movie even longer
I enjoyed the plots but wished they had more time; like Gru and Poppy and their dynamic of slowly being friends, or the siblings (I forget their names sorry lol) getting used to the new home, all these plots needed more time to flesh out the story well. And I dunno why but I was expecting… a bigger battle? Like it was just “oooh, I’m chasing you!” And then “now you’re on the edge of the building >:)” then it’s just a quick “the child saves Gru!” (Again, forgot the child’s name sorry lol), for me the final battle kinda was cut short. I did enjoy the movie but I knew there could’ve been more. As the final song in the movie summed up perfectly: “nothing lasts forever”.
I still liked it, didn’t mind the stuff you got points but feels like over analyzing from my pov. Song a bop got funny bits and way better then the other films they’re advertising in theaters .
Even the Doom Syndicate would beat Maxime’s Cockaroach Ass. Illumination needs to allow the creators of these movies to put great ideas in otherwise people will lose interest and aside from Despicable Me and Mario what does Illumination have that is very popular?
imo this movie would be abit better if they skipped 3 and went straight to the 4th movies plot, or continue grus evil personality in 2, and make the 2nds plot in 3 and this one in 4. I just like evil gru.

Minions 3 I believe might take place in the '80s assuming they're gonna make a prequel for every decade since Minions 1 was set in the '60s and Minions 2 in the '70s, so I don't think there would be Mega Minions since it hasn't happened yet.
This franshise should've have stop at the third, instead. The same goes for kung fu panda 4 and toy story 4

I have the feeling that Mario Movie 2 is going to be a disappointment like Despicable Me 4 I don't hate Illuminations or Nintendo for what they do to their fans but it really feels bad at Illuminations honestly.

Ironically, i gone to the theater with mom the watch it out of curiosity and my mom was laughing at some jokes, (me included) and found it entertaining. This proves that some folks can find something funny even if it's in a bad movie. Or it depends if you're watching it in polish. And if your a baby person such as myself, you would love to watch Gru Junior.
Personally, I thought it was alright. It's not a great movie, it's not a bad movie, it's just decent. There were plenty of jokes that got me laughing, but there was stuff like the story being a bit boring at times. I can clearly understand why people won't like it, and I respect that, but personally, despite the MAJOR flaws it has, it was still an alright time. Certainly, better than DM2, DM3, and Minions in my opinion, but not by much. lol

Despicable Me 4 - 5.5 or 6/10 Its just chaos with subplots and minions stuffed together. There is little to no heart or character development or theme. The first two movies did have heart and theme and character arcs but then Illumination downgraded the franchise to cash cow. Will Ferrel is great as Maxime but his plan is incredibly silly.
Kung Fu Panda 4 - 8.8/10 I strongly but respectfully disagree with you about the movie being mediocre and Chameleon being a villain that just exists. They are both great and underrated !! The movie had great themes about change and apart from the action and comedy I enjoyed the themes and character development.

Yeah I already saw Inside Out 2 in Theaters back in June I think I might see it AGAIN in late July or August again instead of this annoying cash-grab sequel, Despicable Me might soon be the next Blue Sky R.I.P. and Ice Age if Illumination cannot make successful new franchises which even Pixar and DreamWorks have done successfully for decades.
At least Ice Age 1 was okay. Nothing Illumination is good. What a terrible studio.

My guess for why Gru Jr doesn’t like him is by the time he sees Gru’s physical appearance he loses his charm of loving Gru back. Maybe it’s cus he’s bald and looks gloomy.
Even though a lot people say that disney animated films are falling off except inside out 2, but at least they try to make a good story and put some effort but sometimes they fail, but that's ok because not all of films can be perfect, but illumination barely puts effort in their movies, even thought they have a lot of potential and talent but at the end of the day most of there movies are made to make a pretty penny or sell merchendaise.
@@fabianmelendezdominguez8208 With what you said Disney tries to put some effort and make a good story in their movies, I feel that they did that in Wish because I believe some people liked the movie even though it flopped and I can say I am one of them. Not the best, but I think it’s better than Strange World. I also think this is a sign that Disney is slowly going back to its roots not as fast as Pixar, and if Moana 2 does well then that’s a miracle. 🙏🤞
