A few weeks ago Australia had the privilege to get the latest Despicable Me film released way before the United States. And like the typical RUclipsr I sat on my opinions until the hopefully “peak” interest time to release all my thoughts for maximum revenue. Now I’ll be honest, since the release of Minions 2: The Rise of Gru I’ve been pretty hyped for this latest instalment. I have strong memories of not thinking that the 3rd Despicable Me film wasn’t all that great (having taken a look back in my RUclips catalogue it seems I did a rewatch about 2 years ago and actually enjoyed it so who knows lol) and it’s a shame but I do feel that this film only scares just above this level. But you’ll have to watch the video to find out why. Enjoy.
You wanna know what's disappointing? There is an official interview of Margo, Edith, and Agnes NEVER AGING and that bothered me. I don't want the girls to be stale, I want them to age. I hope to God, they reconsider and ditch the status quo.

I’ll never understand why people want the girls to age, I think the problem is just not giving them a main stake in the plot, having the girls grow up would be a gimmick they can’t come back from, it wouldn’t make sense.

I love the fact that Maxime Le Mal tends to pay for gasoline for his giant cockroach robot instead of stealing it at the gast station. Which is something the other villains would do instead of paying.
I mean I want to also point out EL macho payed for his drink during the flashback from the second movie, just with a tip of a snake alongside

I feel like the filmmakers had a compelling story staring them in the face. In the first film, Gru adopts the girls after a long, begrudging period of not wanting them. In the fourth film, he and Lucy have a new baby boy - their flesh and blood son. *Show how each daughter reacts to this change!* Show Agnes no longer being the baby of the family and grow into being an older sister. Show Edith reluctantly trying to embrace a softer side and the baby having none of it. Most importantly, SHOW MARGO! She was the most hesitant to accept Gru in the beginning, so if anyone's going to be unsettled by a new baby, it's her. Perhaps she starts acting out and Gru misreads it as her becoming a villain. Perhaps she gets tangled up with the film's Big Bad somehow and Gru has to rescue her again. Yes, it's a little tropey, but guess what? Reinventing tropes was where the first film shined brightest! I would have watched a film like that on repeat!

@@moonfour4 Yeah dude the plot really sounds interesting specially with how it involves the gorls and lucy in the main plot again.
I went in expecting shrek the third and left a bit emotional. Idk but that ending part felt like a finale to the series. Wasn’t as bad as I expected, but a bit underwhelming.
Something I did wish the film did was have the three daughters have more agency in the movie.
Like they could’ve had some stuff about Margo struggling to fit into her new school and maybe her and Poppy forming a friendship or something
Maybe have something about Anges struggling with being in Edith’s shadow and trying to become her own person. Maybe have something about her standing up to the karate instructor and beating him in a fight or something

i think they just focused more on comedy than they did the actual storyline. It just annoyed me because they could have done more with the minions because i mean they quite literally had powers. It just doesn’t make sense why they didn’t do more with the minions.
honestly the story would've been good if poppy was a neglected child (which is why she wants to go into villainy) but is taken under Grus wing as he tries to guide her towards good and teaches her that just because she wasn't treated well that doesn't mean she has to go into a villain role. This in turn could get Gru thinking about how maybe HE has been neglecting his OWN girls and could try to address that and have a heart to heart with them about the move and the new baby etc etc
this would also make sense since Gru himself was a neglected child :/
My favorite part was when Gru says: "It's Despicable Me 4ing time!" And then Despicable Me 4ed all over those guys.

I think my least favorite part was how gru just got embarrased. He was one of the best villians with the best scientist, lots of gear, and has a lot of feats, and the best army, but he just got beat up and embarrased by everyone, like he legit had to go into hiding and got blackmailed by his like 10 year old neighbhor, so I hope he becomes cooler or less of a pushover if there's ever another movie.

The funny thing is Uncharted 4 had pretty much the same plotline and it’s considered an amazing game (it was executed way better)

Let’s face it. Despicable me 1 and 2 were the only good ones. With Rise of Gru being alright.
The rest are either mindless noise, or confusing messes with no focus or plot structure.
If you hate despicable me 3 and 4, then why bother watching? You simply don't like the main story to go along with something else. Do you prefer to end the story in second movie or bringing back all the villains in prison? How is having an unknown brother and a new baby a confusing messes to you? And btw all the minion movies are targetted for childrens

I think it was good, nowhere near the first one but at the same level as the other two. This franchise is more about having a good time, people shouldn’t expect Pixar level storylines. I can see you being disappointed if you thought it was going to be as good as the first movie, but I thought it was going to be the same level as the other 2, which it was in my opinion.

The thing is, they're not fun either. Actually, every single installment of the Despicable Me franchise except for the first one was a soul-sucking, depression-inducing, thoroughly terrible in every manner experience.

There was no vision for this movie and it should've never happened. Gru's character arc is done, Lucy and the kids were sidelined, this is the 2nd time the minions have gone off on a side mission bc they had no place in the plot and dr nefario and dru are irrelevant due to gru's life of crime being over.

Wow. If I had a nickel for every 2024 film that was a superfluous and underperforming fourth entry in a franchise that could’ve ended perfectly fine as a trilogy, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but I’m worried it’s gonna happen more than twice.

I think the reason why every movie gets worse is because they feel less charming and random unlike the first one which was a brand new ip so it had more charm to it

For me i honestly do not care about the despicable me movie plots becuse i dont want the movies to be all serious and pixar story telling,what the franchise is going for is just for little kids having a good time and goofy fun. i thought the movie was great but yes i do think they could've got rid of some stuff in the movie. But that doesn't matter the whole point of illumination is dumb fun for little kids to laugh at instead of having a compelling story thats so serious like pixar. Pixar is for adults and kids becuse of the stories message, but illumination is for kids (if your older then like 13 and still like illumination then that's fine) its not trying to take its self to seriously
The thing is it did take it self seriously at the beginning with the first Despicable Me being genuinely very good cause illumination developed to a standard of a Pixar movie or DreamWorks movie but after that and minions took over the world they realised that they didn't need to try in order to be profitable cause they can just pump out mediocre crap and not give a damm about making a good quality film. Yeah every kids film doesn't have to be dumb and fun but the thing is that the influence that illumination had on animation was negative in that it changed people's perception on a animated movie compared to the 2000s with Pixar or Disney and DreamWorks completely overshadowing them.

I live in Thailand and I begged my mom to go watch the despicable me 4 movie on the first day it came out in 4Dx in English. When I got there I was excited but there was something off, THERE WERE 0 PEOPLE IN THE THEATER AND ONLY ME AND MY MOM ( Probably because it was in English not Thai). But, it did make the movie more enjoyable because I can talk to my mom LOUDLY about the Easter eggs and other things. Overall, the movie itself was great in my opinion. FYI: I recommend to go watch it in 4DX because this movie is INTENSE in 4DX, you like shake everywhere and there is water sprayed in your face and the fans run at full power which makes it very cold and windy at some parts of the movie like when they were flying in the air.

I saw it today. I would rank them 2, 1, 4 (close call b/t 1 and 4) and I really didn't like 3. Was this overstuffed and plot thin? Yes. But I laughed out loud or heavily chuckle 5 or 6 times at semi adult jokes (i.e., the gas station, playing I Am To Sexy as the neighbor drove away, Gru blackmailed by a teenage girl and her telling him he is old as dirt, others) and I liked the climax ending b/c it was just Gru v. the villian. I just felt it was a decent see at the movies. I believe folks are being to hard on it. It was pretty good. If you like the others you will like this.

You should keep going with Miraculous Ladybug season 1 retrospective reviews. Unless I’m mistaken, Volpina is the only season 1 episode you haven’t talked about yet and then you can start reviewing season 2.
This is why 4 parts of movie sequels are a dead fad more than anything else. If they can't do it right, then all hope is gone

The scene where they’re hiding was boring and their fight at the end was short, predictable and underwhelming and the blackmail girl just disappears and is never heard from again

For me personally, I watch these movies to have a good laugh and to have a good time! Despicable Me 4 delivered on that for me! I really enjoyed this movie because of that! If you want to just have a good time watching a movie, watch despicable me 4!

It was super funny, entertaining and I really liked the storyline. The whole point is comedy!
The first 2 and minions 2 are fun for me personally however the others just felt too degrading and using baby jokes to make their films a success

They should’ve had The girls be older and become more distant from Gru and Lucy as they age since that’s what most children do when they start aging. and they try to bond with them more to become more present in their lives with Lucy doing activities with Agnas and Margo while Gru and Edith are doing more crime stuff (so we can get rid of Poppy) cause that is so suitable for Edith and also they really should’ve had Vector and all the other villains return which would justify the need for them to go into witness protection and would also justify the need for the Mega Minions (also a fight between the muscle Minion and El Macho would’ve be LEGENDARY)
I dunno, but in this film, the super minions had the best character development, although they abandoned the rest of the minions, they actually LEARNED how to control their powers.
Maxime Le Ma's reason for hating Gru was dumb in my opinion. Villans like Bratt were actually good at explaining why he is evil.
Finally, i still don't get why Gru Jr. respected Gru a lot after stealing Principal Überschlecht's skunk, even though he is uncooperative ( I actually felt bad for it coz he was abused by Principal Überschlecht)

Tbh, i really loved all movies of DM and Minions except this one.. My expectations were truly high, but unfortunately, It's disappointing and the story line is just meh. Some characters makes no sense and kind of useless. More like it is a rushed and "forced" movie. Makes me sad ngl, hopefully it's not as bad when they make a new sequel/part.

The story was ok but they ending was great
The movie was good overall but for me there was so much going i could barely understand lol. But my fav scene was the last one and overall it never really managed to stay boring. Imo but the thing i found weird in the second day it came out in the us there were BARELY ANY PEOPLE only like 4 more people but everyone prob went to see inside out 2. Imo i feel like the movie will become underatted.

I thought it was okay, however it doesn't compare to the other movies. And the Minions were still funny regardless, so I don't think the Franchise is going anywhere.
The movie wasn’t that good I wish we had more mega minions action and if Maxine le lamal was dangerous villain that made Gru and his family go into hiding just for him to be taken down really easily and Gru’s family was only under cover for two days it could have been longer also poppy I thought wasn’t really a good character she served no purpose in the film and I watched all the movies and I’m a fan but that’s just my opinion.

Not a study story for the movie,Dru didn't have A SINGLE part in the movie except being mentioned and being seen for a second at the end of the movie,would been MUCH better with dru

Why is Inside Out 2 the ONLY good theatrical animated movie this year so far?
Kung Fu Panda 4- Sucked. I hated it. It feels like something some cheeky spinoff would do. Not an actual full-blown movie
The Garfield Movie- Absolutely boring as shit.
Despicable Me 4- This series is getting exponentially worse. 1st was good, 2nd wasn’t as tolerable, 3rd was horrible, 4th was completely disjointed and feels like something you’d find at a dollar store.
Orion & the Dark and Ultraman: Rising were pretty good but those weren’t theatrical, I hope Moana 2 and The Wild Robot don’t suck utter balls or even turn out to be “just okay.” I want them to be good for the sake of the animation medium!

I liked the 1st one personally,but not that much,i would rate it a solid 8/10

Ok, there were alot of fair points here, BUT, the way i see it, I think its a set up for more sequals. But yes, of course, I doubt the gurls are going to be featured much more in the coming future. This film was pretty much just a set up for some more minions movies. As for animation, if you just focus, you can see all the perfect details on the models. Illuminations style is just kinda goofy, but mixed with overly realistic as well.

In this movie I just watched it Agnes was a pain in the ass and it also just feel like some stuff happened just to happen like they chose the main villain to be a roach out of all things and also what I said it felt like things happen just to happen because what was the point of the karate scene or like the hair scene and all of a sudden we saw they went from the first movie him jumping on rockets and dodging them to being scared of a 12-year-old girl

I think it more because of the minion that ruin it a bit. like i wish they played more into gru secret life but the minion took most of the screen time for me. I don't hate the stuff that happen with gru but the minino are the drivign factor of the show some what. Also i kind of hope gru diid know how to play tennis or at least do something well and not have the minio being involved even though they are the comdey and driving factor
