In South Korea, there has been a growth in illegal “ghost doctors” in the country’s thriving plastic surgery industry. “Ghost doctors” are stand-in medical workers who perform the procedure instead of the hired surgeon. It’s done to increase the number of surgeries conducted, maximising profits. One victim of the practice is Kwon Dae-hee, who died of severe bleeding after undergoing jawline surgery in 2016. CCTV footage showed the 26-year-old was left unattended during surgery. The victim’s family was reportedly compensated 430 million won (US$386,900) in 2019, while the surgeons involved face manslaughter charges.

This is very common in Korea. Far too many medical malpractices are happening in Korea but hardly no doctors get punished. They quietly resign at the clinic / hospital where they malperfomed the surgery and open up a clinic elsewhere or continue working at a different clinic or hospital. Of all the countries in my opinion South korea really has the most toxic beauty standard. Their ideal beauty is so uniform and narrow that their "beautiful" Actors nearly look the same, you can clearly see that they have a reference "beautiful face". They are so obssesed with it which is wrong because what they consider a "beautiful face" is not beautiful for everyone. External appearances are temporary and shallow what makes a relationship last is in between our two ears.
Human beings are flawed creatures we break the rules of nature and create our own. A wild animal would not think of changing the nature of its face because of its feelings, it only worries of how to find food to survive it follows natures codes and for that it is a perfect creature in a way.

I share your disdain for their obsession with cosmetic surgery, but what should really concern us is that this could just as easily have happened with other more life-threatening operations they handle, if their work practices are this shady/lax
The boy bled to death because of negligence and irresponsibility. In this case (and many other cases) it is happening because there are no strict safety protocols/regulations and the law is lax in that area. Maybe the law can't keep up with the culture?? Koreans are very divided and polarizes. Older generation is very "conservative", they don't want a change. Remember the sunken ferry with over 160 high-school kids perished with it due to the lack of safety protocol in place and no leadership? The captain of the ferry ran of the boat while students were inside the cabins on the lower deck patiently waiting for the instructions as they were told. It took years for people to get answers and make at least some changes (actually not sure of the second). But while the parents and young people were demanding changes, and wanted the country president to at least resign, the older generation were opposing those changes and wanted to keep the president as she were. The older generation did not more money to be spent on safety, training, etc. Maybe long time ago Korea had a different culture. But things are changing fast and people become greedy when they see more money to be taken...
I also dont think that wanting to look a little more perfect should be a reason for plastic surgery but if theres really something that people make fun of all your life that leads to huge depression I think its also okay and still way better than a very unhappy life or even su!c!de.
(Btw. theres a plastic surgery clinic in Korea named " M.V.P " lol)
@Messy people like you are the worst who can’t accept reality or opinions. They just shared their opinion and it’s not like it’s a rude opinion or something.
@Messy not everyone is fluent in english
This is why those 2 sentence horror stories I read said:
"We are the biggest serial killer in history who haven't been caught,
And the best part is to say their families 'sorry for your loss, we tried our best.' "
Kpop/ kdramas should come with a disclaimer "For entertainment purposes only, the performers are fictional characters and none of this is inspired by real life."
Underrated
I teared up when the boy's mother said that *she failed to protect her child.* I can't imagine the pain she must be feeling. May his soul rest in peace 🙏
This is an issue in Korea because consumer protectionism is dangerously low. People can get away easily with scamming consumers with a slap on the wrist. If the punishment for these acts were so severe, doctors in Korea wouldn't even fathom attempting these switches. But they know they'll get away after paying only pay a small fine (at best), so their financial benefits far outwiegh their potential costs, which is why they keep doing this.
This is why credentials and monitoring are important when it comes to the service industries. With proper qualifications you can be assured that the doctor tending to you is a real professional. With proper government monitoring you can cut down on crimes.
Ah yes, because all government officials aren't corrupted, and getting bribery from thes medical firms. Totally not like Korea's recent two out of three presidents are imprisoned or impeached.

Whether surgery is medically necessary or just cosmetic, we put so much trust in doctors. There is so much negligence that goes unheard and doctors continue getting to practice and sometimes just get a slap on the wrist. I feel so deeply for this family and others. In today world most ppl are so fake, fake face and fake attitude.
Which part of the world do you live in? The world is huge, just move somewhere nice
That has been the case for centuries.
@@rinne7244 yeah and those scheming ones are the ones I hate. Sometimes those who are mean has a soft heart deep inside.
No lady you didn't fail to protect your child's life, you failed to teach him to value his own life more than trying to fit in a society that is extremely superficial and shallow.
Patient: Thanks surgery doc I can't thank you enou-
*turns around*
Patient: Uhh d-doc? Where'd you go?
It was later found out that the plastic surgeon passed 20 years ago
Cases of haunted surgeries still continue to this day
What...... ???
I didnt get it
Are doctors ghost or what?
Exactly, this was what I thought when I read the title of the vid 😂
This is what would happen in a Bollywood movie
I hope more people will become aware of this in south Korea
I'm just glad I'm contented with my beauty and dont need any surgeries.
The obsession with changing who we are is mind boggling
The Solution is simple
Be proud about who you are and how you look
Don't go for fake look like K Pop
What you're saying is like telling an angry person to calm down or telling a sad person to just be happy. It will just make them hate you
May your soul rest in peace dear..Your Mom is a very Strong Woman. 🙏🏻
It's the high beauty standards of the society that sets breeding grounds for these monsters... The bullying and the teasing one has to face at high school and gatherings is the underlying factor that leads the younger generation to rely on plastic surgeries... Shame on the society that impose the "beauty before character" trend on the new generation😤😤😤
Where are we heading as humans? Why people hate themselves so much?
We’re heading where we’ve always been heading. European women used poison as makeup a couple centuries ago. Lead to whiten the skin I believe?
Korean needs to understand that beauty is not all about having a surgery to make you look better, they need to appreciate their own natural face and embrace it.
I mean getting a double eyelid one isn’t even that bad. That’s what most of them get. And it would be the only thing they get. I don’t think it’s ruining natural beauty.
I personally think a person is allowed to be dissatisfied with themselves. Sometimes it’s very hard to love ourselves and, this is where surgery comes into play at times. I think we should also realize that others and ourselves will never be satisfied with what we get. It’s a natural human trait.
Some of the comments here smh... It's the doctors' problem, not the patient. There's nothing wrong with getting a plastic surgery. This case is clearly a medical malpractice.
I cried when the mom said she couldn’t protect her son :(
The surgeries are only "necessary" due to a toxic culture, too. The amount of medically unnecessary plastic surgery that's been normalized in Korea is sad.
That’s scary especially since S.korea is top in the number plastic surgeries done and people’s lives depend on it there
Living in judgemental society must be really tough
I got to know about ghost surgeries through Kdrama 'Dr. Romantic 2'
Never thought it is still practised in real.
I used to admit South Koreans were naturally beautiful. But it's recent I came to know of their plastic surgery. I just feel sorry for them😥😥😥
And here I am not appreciating my open society
No one needs plastic surgery you’re beautiful the way u are
I love Korean shows, food, shopping as I lived there for 16 years but lots of corruption till today :(
Condolence for people who died from medical malpractice. I think South Korea has to regulate their plastic surgery industry tightly, because lots of foreigners see it as one of the most popular destination for PS and the more foreigners visiting for PS, the more likely such malpractice can happen to unlucky foreigners. As SK depends on their human-resource images for marketing their products&services, if more and more bad news about medical malpractice appears, it can affect their reputation and quite possibly the chains of products&services related to these whole "beautiful-looking idol-face" image.
Regardless of PS controversies, people-anyone, really- deserves to receive secure, standardized and safe medical practices when it comes to any kind surgeries.
No maam you didnt failed to protect your son because he died under the knifes, but you did FAILED MISERABLY because you didnt say " son you are ok without surgery, and to be confident of what you really are is more cool than just changing something you have been for, and garbage dumb will aways been garbage even if you paint pink or changing the handle...."
Sorry but maybe you don't know how terrible south korea can be to ppl who don't fit beauty standards. They have a huge issue of bullying and consequently a HIGH su*code rate...so unfortunately it's not the moms fault that he wanted to change his appearance. It is society
Can see your point but I reckon its more complex than that
@@usha5802 I agree. Many men know their mothers love them, but that isn't everything. If they feel they can get a job or a partner by changing their looks, they will do it. He did look fine, that is so sad.
That's why makeup is a thing for people.
dump*. Pink is nice.
I think plastic surgery shouldn't be legal in the first place
Imagine having such high beauty standards to the point where the majority of the ppl there can't keep up and has to risk their faces/lives in order to keep up or be normal
In that case do you feel bad for the top 2 countries with the most beautification surgeries, USA and Brazil?
@@thedarkyellowpages4016 USA doesnt put huge beauty standards pressure to teens
@@lollol-vg8dk LOL. Suits your name. Keep sleeping under a rock.
386k for your child death. What a disgrace.
The value should be in the millions.
i dont understand why people dont accept themselves as beautiful in south korea and put their lives at risk by undergoing surgery process ..... You all are beautiful the way you are ....accept yourself....
What's crazier is the victim who already had attractive features feel the need to undergo cosmetic surgery. The beauty standards are insane
this is why i hate when sasaeng fans try to defend their idols who udnerwent dramatical surgeries. young children feel the need to get surgery to fit theri beauty standards. i hope the idols can be an idol for people to just accept who they are and stop extreme surgeries (talking about full face, jawline surgery)
That's not sasaeng fans, that's delusional fans. Sasaengs are a different breed of fans that's more complicated.
No amount of money can compensate for the loss of your own child, the loss of life doesn't have a price tag.
If they could just take the effort to raise a not insecure child it would be okay.
This is so sad, I'm sorry your child was taken so soon. 💚
They all project the really pretty anime faces out there and I'm glad to be an Indian because no matter what the problem or issue is, we always voice out our opinions genuinely. That is on of the reasoywr haven't drifted apart due to the ever dynamic state of the modern world
Yes! There are still cases of bullying, body shame, etc, etc _but_ we don't shy away from voicing our opinions and we made sure the freedom of speech is a day-to-day event here in the Indian household
Nowadays there are many doctors who entered the profession for the money or status, not because they really want to help people. Sad.
No money, no punishment can bring back their child 😔
Don’t think it’s ghosts haunting these peoples psyches , but rather their egotistical narcissism . Doctors should be punished for jumping the gun with their training on someone’s life .
