My band played this in our last concert before my conductor left, and the part where the grandpa in the song dies made me cry, because the girl lost her grandpa, and we lost our conductor so he could go teach in South Korea....
I loved to play this piece as a clarinetist, it was one of the first pieces I played and made me love the instrument, it's still my favorite even 7 years later
Duskstar 39/ Luna The Wolf , awesome. Just a little bit of extra information if you care to tell your band director or bandmates, in this piece the piccolo represents the grandfather and the flute represents the main character of the book the Chinese Cinderella. At the beginning of the peace, it is like a conversation between the two characters. Later, when the same theme comes back, you will notice that it is only flute. At that point in the story, the grandpa has passed away. Just a little behind the scenes information
WE PLAYED THIS SONG MY FRESHMAN YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL AND I CAN STILL PLAY IT ON MY SAX AND NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS CALLED AND THE SHEET MUSIC HAD DISSAPEARED ITS BEEN 3 YEARS AND I FINALLY FOUND IT OH MY GOD
I played this in honor band in 7th grade last year and I love this piece sm it’s probably one of my favorite pieces I’ve played, and on top of that it was actually made for my schools band.
My band played this song before my conductor left. So we decided to play this for our band trip and we got 2nd place in state. Its was my favorite ever
When my band first got this piece I was so happy. I love Asian themed music. Its so pretty. When we first got it, i was the only Flute that played it perfectly which even surprised me XD so my band director might just give me the solo because of that. One question though. Should I get a wooden flute for this piece? I think it would sound amazing. Just an idea
Lol I play the flute and piccolo (but is the only flute that can play the piccolo well, so I'm the piccolo solo), but sometimes I wish I was the flute part because most of our flutes suck XD hopefully they get better before our band competition
I know it’s been 2 years but a wooden flute would sound amazing. I play Euphonium, and I loved my part! Flute/piccolo stole the show though to be honest. It fits so perfectly
Playing this on the clarinet for our district’s band competition :D Edit: it’s because of this piece we are now going to Indianapolis for Music for All!!! We have all come so far 🥲
I love these music pieces they just really great and fun to try , but it a little hard but everyone needs a challenge I like all of your music like this one and armory, I play the tenor saxophone and trumpet, Thank you for giving us a joy of music , every time it makes me want to play my instrument, thank you it's really fun and the joy of it is fun , thank you
Hi Randall! I remember playing this piece as the flute soloist for our 2023 UIL last year and I can say that the feeling of you just playing and miced up is pretty nerve wracking but awesome! I really loved this piece especially my solo part. Now here I am, almost a year later, making 1st chair in the all-region band!
My band splayed this for TAPPs it was so much fun ti play and we still love the song and are begging our director to let us play it again for a concert
I love this song so much. I played this song last year during my spring concert. I got the flute solo with two other people and it was an awesome concert too.
My bandmate told me about this song and she said she really liked it. (Maybe because there is a lot of flute parts in it and she is a flutist) I will be sure to tell my band director. (I play clarinet)
This is helping me lol, I got volunteered to start learning the piccolo this week so I can play at our highschool graduation this Monday. We played as a full band today and I missed all my cues because I never got the chance to fully listen to this song and know when I come in. So I’m currently sitting in an empty band room fingering along
My band played this piece for UIL and we got straight ones, sight-reading and concert. Great piece mr. Standridge. BTW our tubas are obsessed with the euphonium part in measure 44
coming from a small group of percussionists (there are 9 of us) i have been blessed to be able to play both woodblocks and high tom in this outstanding piece
Thank you for the compliment! My personal favorite of my works is a tie between "The Witching Hour" and "Imaginarium" but that's what makes are interesting...everyone reacts differently.
I love this piece so much, i adore measure 44 because I'm a 2nd chair trombone and i have 1st part so i play the melody at that part and i just adore it
My middle school band is playing this for our commotion March 3rd and this is my first competition last year i was a beginner and I have the flute solo
Sometimes I truly regret listening to band music so much because I can't decide what song we choose so I can only be jealous of those who get to play this song :(
We played this my freshman year in high school, i played flute and it was so much fun to play, and although I didn't play the solos I must say that this song holds a special place in my heart, not because it's fun to play (although that is part of it) but rather because once you look at the backstory of this song and tie it in with the actual song itself, you realize just how beautiful this song is and the significance of it
Were doing it for our band contest, which, we’ve gotten all 1+’s(which is as high as you can get) for the past like seven years. We have a mix of 8th and 7th graders
My band is performing this piece for my last 8th Grade concert this year. It’s a great song to play so I can end my middle school experience with a bang. Thanks, Mr. Standridge. :) ( The tuba part’s so fun. I love playing it! )
@@randallstandridge thank you!! I love your music so much. And you are my favorite composer! I played your song last year imaginarium and got all 1s on that too
We are playing this piece in band and mostly everyone gets hyped for this piece and I play the timpani part and my band director calls me timpani girl because I can rock it
Dang. I wished our band could have played this song. It’s honestly killer and I think we would had a chance but we only have two percussionists (me and somebody else) and by mine guessing, there is many percussionists parts in it. I hope we can play in high school but if not, I still love this piece.
My band played this in our last concert before my conductor left, and the part where the grandpa in the song dies made me cry, because the girl lost her grandpa, and we lost our conductor so he could go teach in South Korea....

That's really cool!
Randall Standridge yeah I just read this book in class. My teacher’s face when I told her we were playing it in band was awesome.
I'm the same! We are playing this for our May concert (last concert for 8th grade) and I get to play the piccolo for it
WE PLAYED THIS SONG MY FRESHMAN YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL AND I CAN STILL PLAY IT ON MY SAX AND NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS CALLED AND THE SHEET MUSIC HAD DISSAPEARED ITS BEEN 3 YEARS AND I FINALLY FOUND IT OH MY GOD
