- Brave Spirit - Randall D. Standridge - Grand Mesa Music (Grade 2+) - This work, inspired by the book The Chinese Cinderella, uses the pentatonic scale, synthesized mandolin, and other effects to create an evocative portrait of a brave young girl.

I loved to play this piece as a clarinetist, it was one of the first pieces I played and made me love the instrument, it's still my favorite even 7 years later

My band played this in our last concert before my conductor left, and the part where the grandpa in the song dies made me cry, because the girl lost her grandpa, and we lost our conductor so he could go teach in South Korea....

Duskstar 39/ Luna The Wolf , awesome. Just a little bit of extra information if you care to tell your band director or bandmates, in this piece the piccolo represents the grandfather and the flute represents the main character of the book the Chinese Cinderella. At the beginning of the peace, it is like a conversation between the two characters. Later, when the same theme comes back, you will notice that it is only flute. At that point in the story, the grandpa has passed away. Just a little behind the scenes information

My band played this song before my conductor left. So we decided to play this for our band trip and we got 2nd place in state. Its was my favorite ever

I played this in honor band in 7th grade last year and I love this piece sm it’s probably one of my favorite pieces I’ve played, and on top of that it was actually made for my schools band.
When my band first got this piece I was so happy. I love Asian themed music. Its so pretty. When we first got it, i was the only Flute that played it perfectly which even surprised me XD so my band director might just give me the solo because of that.
One question though. Should I get a wooden flute for this piece? I think it would sound amazing. Just an idea

Lol I play the flute and piccolo (but is the only flute that can play the piccolo well, so I'm the piccolo solo), but sometimes I wish I was the flute part because most of our flutes suck XD hopefully they get better before our band competition
Bro, I play trombone and I get to play the same note with the same rhythm for a long time only to go and play a new rhythm for also a while.
I know it’s been 2 years but a wooden flute would sound amazing. I play Euphonium, and I loved my part! Flute/piccolo stole the show though to be honest. It fits so perfectly

Hi Randall! I remember playing this piece as the flute soloist for our 2023 UIL last year and I can say that the feeling of you just playing and miced up is pretty nerve wracking but awesome! I really loved this piece especially my solo part. Now here I am, almost a year later, making 1st chair in the all-region band!
My band was going to play this with two others when covid struck, so everyone recorded their parts at home. Almost made me cry to hear it again.
My friend and her band played this. It's so beautiful, I love it! I hope one day the band I'm in plays it!

This is helping me lol, I got volunteered to start learning the piccolo this week so I can play at our highschool graduation this Monday. We played as a full band today and I missed all my cues because I never got the chance to fully listen to this song and know when I come in. So I’m currently sitting in an empty band room fingering along

Dang. I wished our band could have played this song. It’s honestly killer and I think we would had a chance but we only have two percussionists (me and somebody else) and by mine guessing, there is many percussionists parts in it.
