I understand because of safety concerns they are keeping the middle gate closed. However I worry if something really happens the masses of people in the yard will not be able to get out in time.

Yes John, you're absolutely right. At 7:50 you can see the chain hanging and flying around, and the chain under the horses head is tight, probably upsetting the horse. Yes, same horse, Tabor, only mark i can see is a small white dot low on his right front leg. Thor is on the right.

Having watched Horse Guards for nearly 4 yrs, it seems to me that apart from no common sense, there is oblivion with regard to the actual size and WEIGHT of the horse. 600kgs-800kgs. (Drum horses even bigger and heavier.) The weight alone can flatten a human. I think tour guides need to learn about horse behaviour and impart that knowledge to their tour groups. The simple signal of a horse's ears flattened back is a clear indication of horsey not happy, move away from it.
People taking pictures should not be encouraging people to stand closer to the horse. Every human and animal has it's comfort zone.
Sure, it adds to the excitement when a Boxman, Gatesman or Chitsman (Chicksman) shout at tourists. Personally I would like a responsible person of authority (e.g. Retired Cavalry) standing at each horse box stopping people getting too close to the horse, or touching the horse (because that inevitably leads to rein grabbing, horse
eye poking etc.). Tourists need to know their boundaries and learn that Cavalry horses are highly trained and should be admired for their stature, not irritated by tourists.
I am just an old Gran (77) who loves the Military, parades, ceremonies and admiring the Cavalry in their spectacular uniforms and magnificent horses, but gets grumpy with stupid tourists 🤷🤦🏼‍♀️🤗

You really shouldn't need anyone to tell you in your language that you are about to be smashed against the wall, and then trampled. PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE, MOVE AWAY!! And they say animals are dumb. Well, not hardly.

The curb chain had become detached at one side, which may have been upsetting the horse. I'm guessing they took the horse into the stable yard and sorted it out, so the horse was much calmer on his return.

If it is the same horse which is more than likely, it could've been something else like the bit pinching his lip or something caught under the saddle or strap, which is causing discomfort, which is why the horse returned so quickly and more relaxed after it was adjusted. It's not as if they can tell us! Oh! For us humans to be more telepathic with our animal friends! The day will come! I'm a little telepathic with my daughter at times, which she finds a little frustrating! 😅 So we're beginning to evolve genetically as I'm not the only one. 😊

Yes but some tourist just do not get that horses are real animals , ( I grew up on a farm with horses, cows, pigs and sheep- animals have minds of their own and are not pets ).

I also grew up on a farm, and all my extended family around me were Farmers as well. It seems today that many people don’t ever get the kind of real life experiences that help them develop common sense; and it doesn’t help that neither do most people have personal experience with any large animal or livestock at all. I think that they think this large animal would never hurt them. So many people have over romanticized & anthropomorphized animals, that they just can’t conceive of any animal actually injuring them!
I say more young people need to spend some part of school volunteering on a farm. This is such an important part of our history! I’m fortunate to live about 15 miles from a Living History Farm, re-creating family life from the 1880s with the same breeds of traditional animals & crops appropriate for the time & area. Once a month they open up for Saturday morning chores, and you can come and help them feed and water chickens, pigs, sheep, cows, horses, collect the eggs, shovel a bit of manure, etc. If it’s the right time of year you may be able to milk a cow, watch manual sheep shearing or horse plowing & grain planting. There are usually some hands-on activities such as shelling corn off the cob. In winter sometimes we got to go on a sleigh ride in the snow! You can see a working wood shop & blacksmith, and often people spinning wool, weaving, knitting, gardening , cooking on a cast iron wood stove etc. of course we got to taste some of whatever they were baking! I’ve been appalled about some of the answers we hear from other people bringing city kids out, children who have no idea where their milk comes from. A few of them said the store, but not one said a cow! Doing a few chores at different times of year can really help you appreciate how easy most of us have it in our lives. 💙👩🏼‍🌾🖖🏼

I couldn’t see which part of the harness you were talking about but did you mean the curb chain which prevents the bit from rotating in the horse’s mouth which could make it very uncomfortable. If they adjusted the curb chain it wouldn’t have taken long and would have made a huge difference to how the horse was feeling.
It doesn’t matter where those two tourists came from or what language they speak - if a huge horse is prancing around in front of you and no one knows which direction it will go to just standing there up against a wall which it could flatten you up against at any minute translates as “dumb” in any language.
