I have that exact same nutmeg grater, it was my mother’s. I mix in either pistachios or dried cranberries in my banana bread. I’m allergic to walnuts. I 💕 your fabulous red oven!!
I tried this recipe yesterday, and it was amazing! I thought the ginger going to make the cake taste weird, but no. The spices made the cake taste more delicious. Definately going to make this cake again next time. Thank you for the easy and clear recipe. I will try your other recipes too.
Made this today but missed out the nuts as I had none in. Doubled the recipe to give one to daughter and four grandkids. It was absolutely delicious and so light. Granddaughter gave it 11 out of 10. Everyone loved it. It is now my go to recipe for banana loaf. Thank you.

One of my favourites especially when it has matured for a day or two :) A tip for getting the loaf out is to put parchment paper over hanging the sides to easily lift it out :)

very similar to my recipe ... but I also add ground clove - this loaf is so much more interesting than a blah banana bread. It reminds me of a light gingerbread, but you can still taste the bananas in the background. Delicious.

John I made your banana bread today! I had to substitute white sugar for brown sugar as I ran out of white and couldn't get to the store. The brown sugar worked!!! It gave a rich, deep flavor! Try it 😃 it works! 😊
Another great looking video! I have always preferred using Pecans rather than Walnuts, but both are good. One trick I use is to lightly toast the nuts before putting them in. I also save some whole Pecans and place them on top of the loaf just before it goes in the oven. This way, they don't all sink to the bottom. The recipe I use is very similar to yours, but it makes enough for 3 loaves. I cut the in half, wrap in plastic and freeze what I don't immediately eat. (Sometimes it never makes it to the freezer!). It's always nice to have a half loaf in the freezer to pull out when the fancy strikes.

John I have just made this. OMG it’s the best. I didn’t have walnuts but did have frozen blueberries and I layered batter and then blueberries as you show in your muffins. Truly just the best. Thank you for taking the time to make such fantastic recipes. Do you by any chance have one for Eccles cakes. I’m originally from Sheffield but my parents immigrated to Australia 50 years ago but a lot of our baking still revolves around British baking. What do I miss most, Battenburg cake, I can still taste it.

That *does* look fabulous! I love nutmeg, never thought of adding it to banana bread. I may try substituting grated fresh ginger instead of dry, just because that's what I have, but will be mindful that it can hold some moisture so may make that batter just a bit wetter. Hi John attempted this recipe today, but after comparing the one in you Recipe book i was confused there is variations the biggest is oven temperature 170c for 60 minutes it was cooked inside but caught on edges, in your book its 150c for 60 minutes, I am retired and just taking up cooking and baking and purchased some equipment and recipe books from your shop and enjoying your tasty meals. Oh yes! Do love banana bread (also carrot & Hawaiian) And they keep well - not that there's going to be much left!! Yum!
Banana loaf is a favourite of ours but if I don't have any walnuts I replace them with some saltanas. Lovely spread with a bit of butter.

I make this bread all the time now. It's the best recipe I've tried. I usually drizzle a little maple syrup on it before the mob (kids) get to it.

John I have just made this. OMG it’s the best. I didn’t have walnuts but did have frozen blueberries and I layered batter and then blueberries as you show in your muffins. Truly just the best. Thank you for taking the time to make such fantastic recipes.
Do you by any chance have one for Eccles cakes. I’m originally from Sheffield but my parents immigrated to Australia 50 years ago but a lot of our baking still revolves around British baking. What do I miss most, Battenburg cake, I can still taste it.

That *does* look fabulous! I love nutmeg, never thought of adding it to banana bread. I may try substituting grated fresh ginger instead of dry, just because that's what I have, but will be mindful that it can hold some moisture so may make that batter just a bit wetter. Hi John attempted this recipe today, but after comparing the one in you Recipe book i was confused there is variations the biggest is oven temperature 170c for 60 minutes it was cooked inside but caught on edges, in your book its 150c for 60 minutes, I am retired and just taking up cooking and baking and purchased some equipment and recipe books from your shop and enjoying your tasty meals.
