  • In India, an ancient religion known as Zoroastrianism is under threat.
There are fewer than 60,000 believers in the country and their numbers are projected to fall further.
The UN says this is alarming and warns of an "extinction in the not too distant future".
Could matchmaking Zoroastrian couples and having more children help keep this 3000-year-old religion alive in India?

Not really, vast majority just converted from zoroatrianism to islam. There’s literally no way Arab Muslims would have been able to hold Persia otherwise. It required a lot of tolerance especially in the beginning

The no conversion is not a doctrine of Zoroastrianism itself as we can see that Zarathustra supports the propagation of Ahura Mazda's message as seen in the gathas. The no conversion is a result of the terms of agreement upon entry to the land of India which is explained in the Story of Sanjan.

The community is placing unfair demands on the youngsters without coming to agreement on wider differences - allowing women greater role in religion such as becoming priests, allowing women who marry outside to still identify themselves as Parsis. There are many who are calling for reform, but the voices of the conservatives still tower above the rest.
You can hardly blame the govt. If the younger generation prioritises looks, height and income over being a Parsi, the religion no longer has appeal.

I mean, they are good because their numbers are less. I can already see them actively blocking us from all ways of life if they had population sizes comparable to that of ours. See, their temples are not permitted to non-Parsis. Even while marrying, they are wary of specifically not marrying Hindus, as if we are some forbidden people. They literally know Hindus would worship even their gods without a second thought unlike most other religions, yet they see us like the others only. They constantly worry about their population sizes, as if we are a threat to them. This is the truth. Stop making shit up just because you want to show the world how good they are in comparison to Muslims. The harsh reality is they aren't. It's not like they were very nice and good and victims of Islamic expansion. They ruled Persia for almost 2-3 millenia and took part in many violent wars before being uprooted by the Arab Muslims. Literally every faith other than Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism are intolerant, this is the sad reality. The Jains officially call themselves Hindus even though they have many laws and restrictions which the Hindus don't have. Buddhists literally have no borders when it comes to religion. That's how free and liberal our Indic religions are.

India in the butt crack of the world. A dirty, backwards country filled with archaic traditions and culture. It's no wonder why India is one of the major contributors to world pollution.

@@yinyan_9686 Then you're uneducated and misinformed. China and India are number 1 and 2 by a long stretch.
Your waterways are some of the most polluted waters in the world. Most of your population lives in poverty and famine. India is truly a disaster for not only its own citizens, but it's impact on the rest of the globe.

@@michaelkelly7968 yeah bro by your logic all minorities including parsis should leave this disastrous, godforsaken, filthy..... country and settle in USA and other western progressive nations... I think these parsis will assimilate well in christian American society since christianity and Zoroastrianism share many common beliefs the best being example being concept of heaven and hell.

Parsis need to change the way they treat Parsi woman. Let them marry outside. Give them property right. Let them stay Parsi even after marriage. Chill done on Parsi patriarchal rules.

While it’s great that people want to marry within their communities to preserve culture, but endogamy can cause a lot of problems in the children . This issue will be a big problem in many indian communities because endogamy is practiced throughout India.
