That’s the hidden beauty of California right there Ben, we are a biodiversity hotspot! Just as NorCal is drastically different from SoCal, so are the fish! For example, cabezon fishing is phenomenal up North, but very rare and infrequent down here. You can only be 99% sure what’s around until you fish it yourself :D. Fun fact though, Barred Surfperch are one of a few species that can be caught almost everywhere along the California coast, from up North like Bodega Bay all the way down South like San Diego c:
I’m glad you enjoyed the vidya :D in all my videos, I try my best to emphasize the experience of fishing, it should be chill and fun c: even if you don’t catch fish, you can’t beat the fresh air, sounds of the waves, and scenery all around c: thanks for watching Slywee05! 👌🎣
Ofc :D and there’s also so many different ways to fish so there’s always something new to see c: if you’re interested, check out my buddy JLHA Fishing is not just fishing’s channel. He fishes mainly in Oceanside but his videos are always super informative and he catches a lot of nice fish. If you check him out tell him I sent you his way and that I said hi 👋 😂
Hi Sven, love your channel. On the next video, can you break down how you cut your shrimp up (shell on/off, size) and how you place it on the hook? I'm new to fishing and am curious how you do your bait.
Thanks for watching! I’ll be sure to add that in a future video c: I usually use small pieces of shrimp, not too big, a good piece for a size 6 hook, too big of a piece and it’ll get nibbled away by smaller fish haha
I caught a 15 inches sculpin 3 years ago on another jetty at Dana Point. It was my favor fishing spot. But I can’t catch anything these two years on jetty.
Sounds like a solid sculpin :) I agree with you that fishing has kind of slowed down over the years but you’d be surprised what you can catch if you keep on grinding! You should head back out to your favorite spot when you can during a rising tide with some shrimp, weather has been warming up so there might be some surprises catches waiting for yah!
I agree, squid is also a great bait over at Dana point, anywhere along the jetty is good but I’ve noticed more fish once you get pass the halfway point 👌
I mainly use the high low rig, it is incredibly beginner friendly for bait and wait fishing :D the rig itself is simple to put together and you can have 2 pieces of bait out at the same time. I normally run size 6 baitholder hooks because it’s the perfect size for surfperch, but can still handle bigger fish that might be there c: let minnow if you have any other questions :D👌🎣
Hi Carlos, the closest place I can route you is Dana Point Pier, which is a public pier so no fishing license is required for that spot. Once you're at the pier, there are lots of great fishing spots all around Dana Point (including the pier itself), just be sure to double check fishing/activity regulations as the Dana Point State Marine Conservation Area (a type of Marine Protected Area) is located in the same vicinity. Each type of MPA has it's own set of rules and regulations so just be mindful of that. Hope this helps! Address for Dana Point Pier: 24200 Dana Point Harbor Dr Dana Point, CA 92629
