Thanks John :D! Crazy catches from the shore, never seen a rockfish that big from the shore before too :o and that calico put up such a nice fight 😂 Dana Point is on fire atm if I do say so myself c:
As long as you’re fishing with hook and line, and as long as you catch them below the mean lower low tide level, they’re keepable c: each SMCA has different rules but hook and line to keep is legal with Dana Point’s :D!
@@scruffy7443 ahh okay :D yes they can differ Scruffy, for California we have designated areas called Marine Protected Areas (that’s the blanket term). A State Marine Conservation Area is a more specified MPA if that helps. Each MPA will have its borders and set of rules of what you can and can’t do. Some of them (like Dana Point’s SMCA) will allow fishing by hook and line for keeps + other stuff like spear fishing. Other MPAs might only allow spear fishing. And then some will allow no take or recreational activity at all while within its borders. My suggestion would be to search up potential MPAs in places you plan to fish c: that way you can double check to see what your restrictions are (if there are any). There’s an app you can download called FishLegal that gives you a map of MPAs and information on them, very handy to have on your phone if you’re exploring spots, otherwise you can always look them up online c: Let minnow if you have any other questions and I’ll try to help out as much as I can ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
@@SvenGoesFishing Dude, thanks for the valuable info, This SMCA, MPA stuff does confuse me and bit, the take by hook in certain areas that have tide pools of what you can take and not take marked in red and blue on map as I see, and the part of what type of fish can be taken, I'll tell you the true, I will keep what I catch if it is legal to have, no throw backs specially if I have been out there for hours without a bite and finally caught something, even it's one fish. lol
Ofc Scruffy, glad I was able to help c: you free to keep what you can legally keep, I just enjoy the fishing so I let them back most of the time c: they’ll still be out there for someone who would want to eat them :D!
More to come for sure :D my buddy and I actually hit the rocky shores again, it was even more insane than this vidya haha, it’ll come out once I get to it through the backlog ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks Mr Egg Hat :D that’s the one thing I love about fishing, how chill it honestly is when you’re just enjoying the peace and fresh air c: then stuff like this happens and it’s a clown fiesta of chaos 😂
😂 thanks for the support Dawson c: sorry I haven’t been posting, I’ve been quite busy. But since I have you here I might as well give you an update :o I was blessed to be given the opportunity to work out in Monterey county :D! It’s a super fun job but the only problem is that it’s super remote, like I either get 0 or 1 bar of signal, plus there’s no internet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I have been editing in my spare time but until I can upload it, it’s just sitting there, menacingly! I’m hoping I can start uploading again by the end of this month, but we’ll see how that goes 😆
Bait wise I like using shrimp or squid, anchovies or sardine pieces that are bait threaded work rly well too c: we are casting as far out as we can without getting wet 😂
They’re actually kinda fun to use, each link is about .5 oz, they’re also pretty snag resistant, sometimes more better than lead 😂 tend to bounce off the rocks more. Give it a shot if you ever get some by chance, I highly recommend them c:
Anchovies is the way to go, size 2 or bigger hooks, half and anchovy, bait thread to keep it in place :D it’s more easier to fish low tide, make sure you cast out as far as you can c:
Hi Edward, I'm always down to fish haha, the only issue is finding time to fish D:! Sometimes I don't know I'm good to fish until either the day before or a few hours prior the same day :o but if you want, send me a message on my Instagram and we'll try to work something out c:
Another great video as always Sven. Those were some insane catches you boys caught for sure. Keep up the great work. I look forward to more videos.

Hey I see you went to Dana point! Nice video, my grandparents live up in San Clemente so we go fishing down there a lot!
Fishing in Dana Point is super fun :D I think there’s lots of fish there right now with our current weather, worth a trip out to check c:

So fishing by hook on State Marine Conservation Area zones are keepers?
As long as you’re fishing with hook and line, and as long as you catch them below the mean lower low tide level, they’re keepable c: each SMCA has different rules but hook and line to keep is legal with Dana Point’s :D!
@@SvenGoesFishing I forgot to mention, I'm in San Diego, Ca area, do these SMCA differ in areas Cali?

@wannabearctic np, always happy to help c:
I know that spot and didn’t know you could fish there. I’m usually on the bend on the Nettie fishing.
You can definitely fish here :D! It is an MPA, but it's an MPA that allows fishing by hook and line, no collecting c:
Why do you use chain link for weights? Never seen that before!

Very cool bro🤙
Thanks Kevin c: a solid day of fishing in Dana Point it was 😂
Pretty cool
I always thought that we’re not allowed to fish on that stretch…I’ll give a try
Fun fishing there for sure c: yah can definitely fish there, but that’s about it, no messing with the tidepools ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’m going there this weekend. Can’t wait brother. 🎣
