These engines are amazingly simple honestly. I think if they took a minute to research it's totally possible to rebuild it in 12 hours. I rebuilt my first VW 1500 (converted to 1600) SP 1968 motor in my basement in the dead of winter during college. I started it using a drill and 1 cylinder then tightened the remaining 3 plugs. Got a lot assembly fluid on my carpet, my mother was not happy.
For bolt removal, I prefer to use punched out cardboard and label them so I know which order they go in. Bags don't let you note which bolt came out of which hole. If it's obvious and the pattern doesn't matter, bags are great. Great content as always.
My last few days off have been dedicated to rebuilding the top end on my 1600. Heads, pistons and cylinders. Replacing the clutch, too. I'm feeling your pain right now.
Hell yeah man wish I could like this comment more than once. I was about to mention it and decided to see if anyone else noticed it! MR-S master race! They should do a video on building one of those (fuk boring ass miata), you got at least 6-7 engine swaps that can make it a beast on the track, I've been building mine for a couple years now and it's fast but if I had the money....it'd be unstoppable.
Wow I am literally rebuilding mine tomorrow, which is an air-cooled vw bus as well, and this simply pops up to me like nothing... Hmmm, how suspiciously interesting it is lol
There's an exhayst pipe inside that metal shell. Everything's fine until that exhaust pipe rusts. Then... you know. Over in Porsche land they like their stainless steel aftermarket header/heater boxes.
Quick correction, and it may be due to the lack of sleep, but a short block is the engine block with the crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons. A long block is all that plus the heads and valve train. The intake and accessories make a complete package.

Anna Gump we had all the parts needed already when we sent the bus to him from even someone else that was supposed to get it back on the road.
Mechanics were considers “essential” in New Mexico, so he was working the whole time on other people’s VWs. We have gone to the shop to see him and check on the progress, but there has been none. At this point I’m ready to grab it, my dad’s cash, and send it to one of the reputable ACVW shops in California.
I can sense the growing frustration through my monitor.
If Zach Jobe can’t do it smoothly I’m sure I can’t either
For bolt removal, I prefer to use punched out cardboard and label them so I know which order they go in. Bags don't let you note which bolt came out of which hole. If it's obvious and the pattern doesn't matter, bags are great.
Great content as always.
When doing anything in a workshop, ALWAYS multiply your estimated time goals by a factor of 1,5-3
Expectations: *12 hours*
Title: *16 hours*
Reality: *37 hours*
Actual title: Trying to rebuild an air-cooled engine in 16 hours, til Rocky showed us. LOL
My last few days off have been dedicated to rebuilding the top end on my 1600. Heads, pistons and cylinders. Replacing the clutch, too. I'm feeling your pain right now.
11:35 there’s an Mr-S in the background that shop knows what’s up
Hell yeah man wish I could like this comment more than once.
As an air cooled VW guy, it's fun to see a new generation experiencing the beauty of classic VW. And to laugh at the mistakes...lol
Did my type IV in about 4 hours (post cleaning/disassembly). Installed and running fine.
Rocky be like: oh no what did i get myself into
Me watching this 47 minutes after it came out and wondering why I can’t see the van on Chinatown markets page yet
High key best donut media videos, love the actual real drama and having to work stuff out on the fly. Love you guys!
20:09 every car enthousiast after building an engine and being happy it starts
Wow I am literally rebuilding mine tomorrow, which is an air-cooled vw bus as well, and this simply pops up to me like nothing...
Hmmm, how suspiciously interesting it is lol
I’ve got a vw camper. Since 1974 it’s never needed an engine rebuild, it’s got the original tyres. Ours has held on nicely
WHAT?! A COLLAB WITH CHINATOWN MARKET?!
That heater seems like a good way to get exhaust into the cabin
There's an exhayst pipe inside that metal shell. Everything's fine until that exhaust pipe rusts. Then... you know.
Over in Porsche land they like their stainless steel aftermarket header/heater boxes.
Quick correction, and it may be due to the lack of sleep, but a short block is the engine block with the crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons. A long block is all that plus the heads and valve train. The intake and accessories make a complete package.
Alternate title: *Watch Zack constantly drop his mask*
It doesn't make sense when they use mask all the time when they touch each other and whatever the others touched, so they would get the Coronavirus if they have worn a mask or not🤔🤨
@@Thatoneguyfromtheinternet not really, if they're taking the right precautions you can touch something that has been touched by someone with covid, as long as you desinfect your hands before touching your e

7:16 pressing on the main crank gear is a big no no damages can occur to the gear, crankshaft or wudruf key. The main gear should be heated slightly (careful not to blue the gear or its ruined) aswell as the brass timing gear and they should fall in place.
Well THIS certainly wasn't what we expected to see to see as a new "Money Pit" episode! But hey, welcome to how MOST builds REALLY go! ;)
Zach looks like the kind of guy that would let you copy homework and then give you next days answers
You can copy it, but i'm never sure if it's right
This is why I love car people. Always helpful.
That mask thou. Starts at the nose, after talking for a minute it's under the mustache
Damn, down in mexico I've seen how they rebuild them in less then 6 hours
Must be because there's literally one in every corner 😂
This is the channel i have seen grow and i kinda am proud of that . internet can do amazing things ,here i am in india watching some Americans having fun with cars
