Fabulous to see such a no nonsense tutorial from someone who is actually dealing with the difficulties of applying make up to a more mature face. So needed and at 67 I'm loving these tips.
If you're referring to those horrendous, LONG, pointy, tacky unnatural looking ones that look like part of a costume I do so concur. I just keep thinking of all the extra buildup of crud & bacteria in them 🤢
What a fantastic video, from a lady who has made mistakes like most of us.....No drawn out talking just getting on with it and giving great advice to ladies over 50.....Thank You so much for your advice amd tips.
At 69 I have had to change my make-up...Your "tutorial" as well as others, has given me alot of tips, on applying, as well as products...going into my 70s with a bang!!
So nice to have someone my age giving makeup tips!!! Seems like there are a lot of younger people giving advice for older women...... that doesn't work for me!!! Looking forward to more videos!! I also like the use of "drug store" and more upscale products. Always nice to have a choice!
FANTASTIC advice Dez, it’s so easy to forget and drift back into some of these old habits- I agree with all this tips. Let’s look younger not older !! ❤❤❤
Love this video, Dez. Great tips, straight up with no BS and no ridiculous finger nails. We need more of these videos for us women over 50 - makeup behaves so differently on our skin which the 20 yr olds just do not comprehend.
Just watched you for the first time. It’s so helpful to find a real person, of the age that so many of us are, addressing every day challenges with make up application. And I appreciate your review of both drug store and higher end products. I look forward to following you and learning more. ❤
I just found your channel recently. Your mom’s picture is gorgeous. I love your hair!! I am so tempted by your bangs….❤. I am 63, and admire your beautiful skin. I can’t wait to check out all of your videos, and am looking forward to next year.
I just found you and love you! I'm also a woman in my 70s and love seeing another woman my age (with all our facial "life experience"). Thanks for the tips. I needed them. Just subscribed.
Just wanted to say thank you for this tutorial! I am 65 and have been struggling over how to do my makeup. The techniques you showed have been very helpful for me. In particular rubbing the foundation in you palm of you hand and dabbing it on with a brush! It really did smooth out my skin without looking cakey. I also appreciate the way you applied the blush. thx, Marie
I am in my late 50s and have been struggling with my makeup not looking cakey . Fabulous video ! I learned so much from u about how to do a fresh makeup look with textured skin . You are absolutely gorgeous too!🎉🎉
Hi Dez! I think I have had to make so many changes in makeup application over the last couple of years. I have been using a lighter brow color also. I used to go darker, but my hair used to be darker. Now I just don’t want people looking at my eyebrows very closely at all. I do like to use eyeliner but I definitely don’t use black, medium or light colors instead. This was such a great video! I am bad at not taking time to curl my lashes. I live life in a rush 😊
Thanks so much Mona! Getting my lashes lifted at my local salon makes a huge difference. It doesn't seem to be a thing in the rest of the world as it is here - changed my life 😉❤️
Love your videos. Another tip I’d like to tell you about because it makes a huge difference to me. I spray a little urban decay setting spray on my foundation brush before I apply the foundation. That way the make up looks more like skin and never looks cakey. The brush is then damp and I buff the foundation into the skin for at least a full minute. Almost until the foundation looks as if you’re not wearing any. If I need to reapply makeup before going out , I spray the brush again with the setting spray before applying the foundation.
As a fairly new subscriper from US, I really enjoy your videos. I thought your tips were great but laughed at the overdone top 10 mistakes. The real finished makeup was perfect.
Dez, your hair style is very youthful. Love it. Great tips. Now I do have to say, on me, brown liner makes me look tired. So I stick to black and make it a very thin line. Another good liner is Cassis by Chanel, which can make green eyes pop. It is a sort of brownish purple. Ta, Dez!
Very useful video. I use Elf's concealer and find it blends really well. Also, I chucked out all my make-up last year, aside from a powder by Elizabeth Arden, and bought new from Studio 10, which is specifically geared towards more mature skin x
You look lovely! I so enjoyed seeing a woman around my age, with coloring similar to mine, with really useful suggestions and tips that I can use. You are someone I can relate to in that way, and I appreciate your attitude and graciousness.
Really helpful tips for mature skins. I’ve been at a loss recently as to how to address my sagging eyelids and rest of face. Nothing in my past routine looks good now and just amplifies my flaws making me look harsh and older. You look terrific!
Subscribed ❤. Love how you included affordable brands alongside luxury brands. They don’t have testers for drugstore brands so it’s hard to know what’s good. Thank you!
I agree! A lot of tutorials use expensive brands that are out of many people’s budget, so the tutorial feels disconnected and makes one question if they’ll get the same result using a cheaper brand (not to mention trying to decide what’s ok to to buy as a replacement!). Thanks so much for being real!
Good tips! I don't use a primer - but always use a setting spray, which for me softens any powdery look and keeps my makeup looking fresh for several hours. Nothing expensive - just the ELF Makeup Mist. I've used it for years. I will definitely try the ELF Primer, but I'm always afraid that one more product will just pill! Only wish I could get hold of the Soft Glam foundation - out of stock everywhere.
Thanks so much Fiona! I keep forgetting to use a setting spray. How annoying you can't get the foundation. Honestly, give the primer a go - pilling can be caused by so many factors. It's definitely been added to my makeup arsenal ❤️
Good information. You’d think we’d know those things by now… but as you noted we didn’t have all those different products to use years ago. Thank you👍😘❤️
Thanks Dez. I use Angie hot and flashy concealer brush under my eyes, it’s a total game changer and with a light hand IT bye bye pores loose powder with a small fluffy brush to set the under eye- no more creasing or settling and I’m in a very humid climate. Also my eyelashes won’t hold a curl. I’ve recently found the ELF lash and roll mascara in deep brown and it really goes on well, stays on doesn’t smudge or flake and removes with ease.
I've really struggled with loose powder - I think a light hand is what's needed, but I find that quite tricky 😉- I have a couple of ELF mascaras but not that one - will add it to my list - thank you ❤️
Enjoyed your video very much. I must try a face primer -you have convinced me. Your hair with highlights suits you. Also, you are very lucky to have such big, expressive eyes. Your eye makeup accentuates them perfectly. Thanks for another great video!
Thank you, new subscriber here! This video is excellent. It's hard to break away from the makeup "ruts" as we age. To see the two different makeup applications and your advice on why the changes brighten the face is very helpful!
Thank you so much Francesca! Can I say what a beautiful name you have - as a child I wanted to be a ballerina and was going to change my name to Francesca ❤️
Very good video, thanks! Your application and most of your products were excellent. As a makeup minimalist, I am almost tempted to buy a primer and powder! Still not ready for highlighter, though. In terms of colour, I can't believe how much colour you got from what what looked like such a pale blush palette. Also surprised by the difference in the eyebrow pencils. The second one was soooooo much better, although, as an erstwhile brunette, I was looking at the first one and wondering if there actually were lighter shades! However, I find the cinnamon kajal too reddish for the eye area. Id love to see you in a taupe or olive shade, personally. Thanks again and all the best!
Oh my! Finally a woman of similar age. Helpful, honest commentary. (I accepted that my boobs would sag. Never considered that my cheeks would also succumb to gravity). Beautiful finished look. Eager to see other Beauty by Dez videos.
Thanks for the video and the demonstration of the makeup mistakes. I really liked the foundation and the blush. Personally, I would give up the lower line in the eye and instead create a smoky shade for the lids, with non-shiny shadows. I would choose a more subtle color for the lips with a lipstick rich in moisture.
Hi Dez, great video! Try the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer. The anti-aging one- not the original. You just need a tiny bit and I swear it keeps my eyeshadow from creasing and it stays on all day.
Thanks so much, Jennifer! I get my nails done in a salon, where they use a dipping powder by SNS - I usually get shade 267 or similar. Useful article here on dip powder nails: www.refinery29.com/en-us/sns-dip-powder-nails-review - I think they last better than gels 😊
Spooky. I have recently adjusted my daytime makeup look. I love wearing kohl in the waterline but this is exactly what I am trying to achieve...love thst VB pencil. X
Excellent advise i had gotten to the point of not wearing makeup foundation or concealer because it looked horrifically aging and i would end up taking it off. I just turned 71 and inheritsd good skin. But its really stared showing age now. Concealer was a total mess and i switched to a darker shade because i was using a lighter shade which highlited my wrinkles! Yuk Truly overall less is more and keeping tone more neutral and warm pinky like. I have very olivey skin and when no sun tan is pretty dead looking. Thanks so much!
Hi Dez, great video, as always ! I love your hair colour, its really suits you. I think your make up has got lighter too since I first started watching you, its lovely. I have given up pretty much on traditional foundation, and now only use the elf soft glam, a BB creme, or CC creme. I had a massive sort out and passed loads on the other day. What I did get yesterday and am loving, Is the Pillow talk Fair lipstick and pencil, what a gorgeous colour it is. Its cooler than the original pillow talk, ( CT) , and is nice with lighter, or in my case, White hair. Thankyou Dez. 😊
Ooh nice - annoyingly I think CT lippies contain fragrance, so I've stopped using them - not the pencils, though. Glad you like lighter hair, and you're right, I have gone lighter on the makeup too - still have force myself to step away from the black eyeliner look, though 😉
As the long weekend here in the US winds down.. I’m catching up on a bit of RUclips watching. Oh gosh yes .. the “tide line” had me scratching my head. But I get it now 😅. I’ve had a bit of fun learning new liner techniques this last year. The full ring liner look makes my small eyes look even smaller. I’ve been trying lining only 1/4 of the lower lash line .. then smudging it. I like it for an evening look. I’m tempted to try a lighter brown for a day time look. 😊
I was listening to Lab Muffin's book on audio and she references some research about eye liner, both top and bottom, making eyes look more prominent to the viewer - I'll try to find it - I was quite surprised that even the lower lash line made the eyes pop, apparently! I hope you're having a great holiday weekend. Daughter is back in New Brunswick for a few days' work - wish I could have gone with her!
@ that is absolutely fascinating. I’m going to experiment some more with some liner techniques. My hairstylist Started out as a makeup artist in New York City and he insists that liner makes everybody’s eyes look better! Though he said for my smaller eyes to smudge it out and not go all the way to the inner corner. Safe travels to your daughter. If you ever do make it back to New York I’m always happy to pop over and keep you company.🥰. Have a wonderful Sunday.
Thanks, Dez. That was a lovely photo of your Mum. I can see the family resemblance. I didn't know that our eyebrow shade shouldn't be too dark and should match the hair line colour. I'm 58 and my eyebrows are black, but they have faded a bit in later years. I've never heard of eye lash lifting before (I'm in NZ). Also, I didn't know I shouldn't apply blusher beyond the iris. Gosh, I have been making a few mistakes. Haha. I look forward to trying these new tricks. 💝
Ah, and LOL! I didn't know about the eyebrow thing until I watched Andreea Ali - RUclips is such a mine of info! Mind, if your brows are naturally black, how lovely - mine are so sparse. I've looked up the brand of lash lift used at my local salon and they are in NZ: elleebana.com/salon-finder/ might be worth a punt - and thanks so much for watching ❤️
Hey Dez! Excellent video! In general do you think cream products, versus powder products, look better on mature skin? Im nearing 60 and want to get my makeup in order. I really love what you did with the lighter eyeliner. Unfortunately I cannot wear coppery shades so do you have a recommendation for blue/green eyes and fair skin for a similar look as yours?
Thanks so much Tammy! It's tricky with regard to cream v powder - I think it depends on the product itself and the application - and the skin, so no hard and fast rules. I tend to prefer powder in the cold months and creams in the warmer seasons. Re colours for blue/green eyes - I would say maybe lilac or mauve shades would go well with your cool complexion. Andreea Ali did a great video about colours - ruclips.net/video/9ZEGTKw_EXY/видео.html - really worth a watch ❤️
Great tips Dez and your “do” look is gorgeous! I’m excited to see your review on the Laura Geller Balance n’ Glow. I’ve never tried that one! Have a good one my beautiful friend!❤️
A delight to discover your channel & I can't wait to watch more of your videos because I have struggled to find someone of my own age in UK talking clearly about problems . I hope you will do a "How is the make-up wearing" type vid - which is the real test of make-up ! It is a pleasure to subscribe.
Thank you so much! That was one of the reasons I started the channel - during lockdown I was looking for a UK based beauty and fashion channel for over 60s and there didn't seem to be any! I will do more wear tests, thank you. I am planning a concealer wear test video at the moment ❤️
Hello my darling Dez. I think all of our moms lined their eyes in black liner. I go with brown, gray, or burgundy. Black, for me, is too harsh. Fabulous tips, Dez. I see so many mature women wearing your before look. I want to tell them to get rid of the black liner, and stop applying blush on the apples of their cheeks! You and Melissa 55 are big Victoria Beckham eyeliner fans. It looks lovely. Gorgeous finished look, my dear Dez. Lots of love. 💖💖🫶
Thank you dearest Rene! I must look at Melissa 55 - she is so stunning - I keep forgetting to watch her channel. Much love to you for your holiday season ❤️❤️❤️
You would love Melissa55. She's just darling and a very dear friend of mine. We've chatted on the phone, and text back and forth. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season as well. Hugs❣️💖😘@beautybydez
I see videos of make up artist & they line the lower lashes the outer third lashes & its supposed to make the eyes look larger. For myself I use similar application for foundation but start in the middle of my face & blend out adding more to the areas if I need more coverage.
Just saw this on my RUclips home page…so glad I clicked. You have been blessed with lovely skin. In my experience I’ve noticed that English women have beautiful complexions. (Wonder if the damp weather has anything to do with that). Anyway loved this tutorial!
Aww thanks so much! It is true, we are blessed with damp weather, and it can be rather grey, so the sun doesn't shine on our skins as much as it might do in hotter climes ❤️
Love your hair. Lighter looks fabulous! I have the Westman Atelier concealer too. It's a lot thicker than most other doe foot concealers. I use half of what you applied, a scant drop just below and a little inward of the lower orbital bone and an even smaller dab at the outer corner of my eye. I pat it with my ring finger, which I've been told is the weakest finger, so less likely to eventually make wrinkles worse. Then I pounce with my sponge, then dust around eyes with an extremely light dusting of very finely milled powder. I pat the head of my brush on the back of my hand after I've dipped into the powder to ensure I have minimal powder on the brush. I get no visible settling. I have Victoria Beckham Cinnamon which I only use on my lower lash line but I only apply it from the middle of the lash line to the outer corner. Then I take a pencil brush with a dab of a shimmery taupe eye shadow and go over the line and extend slightly in, stopping about 1/4 of the way towards the inner corner. On me, anything too dark at the inner corner does me no favors. I also prefer the VB Kajal in Cocoa or Ash on the upper lash line, really smudged. Cinnamon doesn't define the line enough. By the time I apply mascara, the line is practically invisible.
Thanks so much Andrea! I am still struggling with all my concealers, tbh, especially under my right eye - my left one is fine. I am doing my best with minimal powder, but maybe I need to go lighter with the concealer first. I'm playing with the ridiculously expensive VB concealer at the mo 😊 Re VB pencils, I like the cocoa for evening and the cinnamon for day - although today I've revisited her palette which I couldnt get to work for me last year...
I tend to use too dark a lip liner . I need to perfect my black eyeliner I just line the top . I just bought a waterproof eyeliner pencil. See how that works out. I enjoyed your video. Thanks !
This was helpful to me. Not the mistakes but the how to section. I have a suggestion for you. I would love to see your bottom line done only partially across your eye. Back when the full rim was popular I read somewhere that redheads should never do a lower line. Well, no rule is really perfect for everyone, is it?! But I have enjoyed using a lighter shade of shadow to make a soft bottom line that I do only partially across way from the corner toward the middle of my eye. It helps to show that I do have lashes down there and brings in some color without closing off my eye. I think it would look lovely on you! Thanks for the fun video!

Very useful video. I use Elf's concealer and find it blends really well. Also, I chucked out all my make-up last year, aside from a powder by Elizabeth Arden, and bought new from Studio 10, which is specifically geared towards more mature skin x
ooh yes I've heard of Studio 10 but never tried them - will have to take a peek ❤️
You look lovely! I so enjoyed seeing a woman around my age, with coloring similar to mine, with really useful suggestions and tips that I can use. You are someone I can relate to in that way, and I appreciate your attitude and graciousness.
Aww thanks so much Kitty, that's very kind of you ❤️
Really helpful tips for mature skins. I’ve been at a loss recently as to how to address my sagging eyelids and rest of face. Nothing in my past routine looks good now and just amplifies my flaws making me look harsh and older. You look terrific!
Thanks so much Denise ❤️
Thank you for this! I’m 76 now and need this type of advise!😊
I’m new to your channel and almost 69, thank you for sharing your techniques, it’s so helpful!
Thanks so much!
Subscribed ❤. Love how you included affordable brands alongside luxury brands. They don’t have testers for drugstore brands so it’s hard to know what’s good. Thank you!
That's so true. I will do more drugstore videos - just to warn you the next makeup one is luxury focused, though ❤️
@@beautybydez Yay - got the foundation on line - bought two as I wasn't sure of the color and I got the primer. Will let you know.
Good information. You’d think we’d know those things by now… but as you noted we didn’t have all those different products to use years ago. Thank you👍😘❤️
Thank you!
I've really struggled with loose powder - I think a light hand is what's needed, but I find that quite tricky 😉- I have a couple of ELF mascaras but not that one - will add it to my list - thank you ❤️
Fantastic! ❤️❤️❤️
Enjoyed your video very much. I must try a face primer -you have convinced me. Your hair with highlights suits you. Also, you are very lucky to have such big, expressive eyes. Your eye makeup accentuates them perfectly. Thanks for another great video!
Aww thanks so much for your lovely comments! It is really worth giving a primer a go - it has made a difference to my foundation application ❤️
I loved it, so great not to see a 20year one with overdone makeup, you look beautyful and very natural thank you ❤
Thank you, new subscriber here! This video is excellent. It's hard to break away from the makeup "ruts" as we age. To see the two different makeup applications and your advice on why the changes brighten the face is very helpful!
Thanks so much!
What great tips! I love how you did your cheek color. You and I have similar coloring, so your advice is especially apt. Thanks, Dez.
Ooh nice suggestions, thank you - will consider those! I love the term "erstwhile brunette" - that's me too ❤️
Oh my! Finally a woman of similar age. Helpful, honest commentary. (I accepted that my boobs would sag. Never considered that my cheeks would also succumb to gravity). Beautiful finished look. Eager to see other Beauty by Dez videos.
Thank you so much - hope you enjoy them! Do let me know if there are subjects you'd like me to tackle ❤️
Dez, the ELF primer is my holy grail and that is exactly how I've been applying my foundation and I love the way it looks.
It is really good, isnt it!
Thank you so much, realized l have been making a few mistakes, maybe more than a few. Looking forward to future tips, thanks again
I'm glad I found your channel. You are delightful
Aww thanks so much, Diana!
Hi Dez, great video! Try the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer. The anti-aging one- not the original. You just need a tiny bit and I swear it keeps my eyeshadow from creasing and it stays on all day.
Thank you - I will give it a go💓
Great to watch you, you look lovely.❤
Thank you ❤️
Thanks for the tip about the blusher
Love all the info! Very informative & I plan on implementing them soon!
Hi Dez. I love your channel. Your new hair color looks so good on you and your makeup looks so pretty and understated,
Thank you so much ❤️
Your hair is beautiful, love the colour, really suits you, and you look amazingly great! Looking good!
Thank you so much!
Love the video great tips!! I wondered which nail varnish you are wearing and which brands you find best. Thanks so much for your help!! ❤
It is fab, isn't it!
Fun video, Dez -- thank you! You come across so personable and charming on camera, and have a lovely voice, too! 🩷
Aww thanks so much ❤️
Excellent advise i had gotten to the point of not wearing makeup foundation or concealer because it looked horrifically aging and i would end up taking it off.
Thank you so much - and agree, less is more, judiciously applied ❤️
The full ring liner look
makes my small eyes look even smaller.
Great to get some new make up tips for aging skin, the range out there is so confusing, thanks I thoroughly enjoyed watching this Dez.
Thank you ❤️
Thanks dearest T! I need to plan in the Laura Geller comparison vid - I've also ordered a Bare Minerals power foundation to add to the mix...❤️
I love your videos and I thank you for all the lovely ideas ❤❤Bravo Bravo
Thank you so much!
Absolutely fab, thankyou for your informative & fun tutorial ❤
Thanks so much!
such a pleasant experience being with you thank you
really lovely Dez. Love the softer, more natural look!!! Plus you are funny!
Thank you ❤️
Hello my darling Dez.
You look really great with both makeup routines
Thank you for the makeup tips.
Some great products...you did your brows perfectly.
Loved your mistakes , they were such fun! I love the color of your eyeliner!
Thank you!
Great tutorial....lovely, lovely lady. At 64 struggling with my makeup...and really needed this advice. Thanks
Christine B.
Thank you ❤️
Such a lovely look and absolutely great tips, thank you!
Thanks so much!
I really like the highlighter tip. Thank you
Great video. Is there any tricks or makeup to colour grey eyebrows?
Thank you! Try a taupe brow powder or use an eyeshadow close to your hairline colour - it might do the trick ❤️
You look great ! Thankyou for your video, I'm going to give it a go 😊
Thx. Enjoyed your video..learned not to use such a dark blush and lip liner..
Thank you!
That’s my favourite mascara. I love, love, love it x
Wonderful video. Great tips and love your presentation style ❤
Thanks so much ❤️
I've only just found you & your final makeup look is absolutely fabulous! Thank you for the helpful hints. 🩵
Oh thank you so much, that's very kind of you ❤️
Thank you! Useful tips! Love your hairstyle 🤗
Thanks so much ❤️
Loved it! Thank u so much..more videos like this...your so beautiful😊
You look beautiful! I am going to try that highlight tip.
Thank you!
Wonderful. Thank you 😊
I see videos of make up artist & they line the lower lashes the outer third lashes & its supposed to make the eyes look larger. For myself I use similar application for foundation but start in the middle of my face & blend out adding more to the areas if I need more coverage.
These things are what i do too.
That's a great technique!
Thank you! We've all made some of these mistakes. Mostly adding too much product is my weakness...
Ditto! I've been trying to hold my brush further down so as not to go all in with powder products 😊
Thank you for this video ❤🎉😊 xx
Thanks !
Thank you so much!
What a lovely presentation, Thankyou nice lady. Very useful.
Thanks Laura - that's really helpful and I will try that ❤️
Hey Dez, final look was really pretty and I really like your hair color. Lynne from Tx.
Thanks Lynne ❤️
Thank you for these helpful tips!
