- From July 18, 1992 an incredible workshop with Vassar and Byron playing and talking about the incredible musical moments they were involved with. Video shot by the late great Peter Burton Hanson. I can't say enough about this. It was shot by my best friend who died on flight 175 along with his family on 9/11. His story was featured in the program for Grey Fox 2002.
The connections mentioned in the video of these two fiddlers covers so much. From Jerry Garcia to Stephane Grappelli who played with Django to Byron's work with Gram Parsons and Vassar's and Byron's entire contribution to bluegrass music, this is truly a historic event and I'm glad Pete had the capture it with his old school, mono regular 8mm video camera. I've tried to fix the sound and color correct the picture a bit but other than that, here it is. -Chris Clark 2018
Thank you
Hands down the two finest fiddle players of my lifetime.
I had more personal history with Vassar, but that in no way diminished my respect for Byron.
With word of his passing today I came out on RUclips to look for some tracks and stumbled onto this.
Such a precious historical document. Thank you, Chris.
Thanks somuch for this rare gift.
This film was such a pure delight to watch!!! To see two of the best bluegrass fiddlers the world has ever known playing together in such a laidback and comfortable setting is a really rare treat, for sure! Thank you so much for putting this up on RUclips!!!☮😃🎻🌞🌈
Thank you. I still have a bunch of other workshops and performances to post. This stuff needs to get posted and my buddy would be proud.
Geoff Somers on guitar and Wayne Ferguson on mandolin. They were in Blue Mule and we won the band contest.
They did very well.
The best two fiddlers by far!
I love reading the comments. So happy about the responses and I know Pete would be as well.
thank you for sharing this treasure
RIP BYRON
Incredible! Thank you for this!
Wow. Amazed I never heard this before. Saw Vassar couple of times. Once at club in Dallas. Put lit pipe in pants pocket. Would reach in and take puff every 4-5 minutes. 😂. Byron is amazing player. Lives in Oklahoma. Have been to his place once and seen him several times in Texas.
PRICELESS! Thanks to all that were responsible, And thank you for posting!
That is just so great!!!!!!!@!!
