yeah... I really love this idea, really makes sense, you want to inform the client rather than have them judge your work.

Its true. And sometime it attracts people who really knows their client more than they know themselves because the architect is really doing its job designing for the client having a vision of the possible problems they would encounter and providing the design as the solution

Hi, this is really nice. I just wanted to know if i could see any samples of educational portfolio... Is that mean i am going to define the space or the category, be it residential or commercial in that...Didnt that sound as if am showing my college work.

I am about to embark on a $10 million industrial project in Texas. I have 3 bids. How do I choose the best group? How do I vet these folks? How do you know if they're good or great or not? I am acting as the GC. All three firms seem ok. All have sharpened their prices. All want the work as there are not too many projects of this size.

if they seem ok and are in the same price range. Look at stuff they did, call people they worked with. And ultimately: go with your gutt feeling.

do you have any updates on how you ended up picking who you are going to go with?

I got bids from 4 different firms. I took the two priced in the middle and got them to match the lowest price. Then I went to a consultant that works for the city of Dallas and asked him who they worked with best. That's my architect. $300,000

@@RandalCollinggood luck. Did that include engineering?MEP, etc?. I am in the middle of a 20M+ hotel project and the biggest problem hasn't been us(arch)but the consultants/engineers. We are only as strong as our weakest link, unfortunately. I don't interact with GCs much at early stages of the project, especially about monies, thanks for responding. I think as an architect (in training) I would have had lots of questions for an architect if I would have been in your position, but I'm sure my needs as an architect are very different than your needs as the GC.
