I've read both your books - and it got me started on my journey of being my own boss. I've just quit my job and have landed my first client designing a lodge in the African Safari. Thank you - your efforts are immensely appreciated.
I, want to discover an effective way to fuse both architecture & engineering, build a home with the 3dprinting & sell the formula to contract-construction companies.
I purchased your Architect + Entrepreneur 2 weeks ago and it has changed tremendously the way I build my architecture business. Thank you for sharing so much knowledge. I vote we make you the architect of the decade.
I am an young architect and i started my own practice a few months ago.......i´ve been a fan of all your videos for a few years now and all the content you create is SO helpfull to me and my growth as an architect. I really appreciate the work you put on this videos and all your plataforms. Thanks men!
Referrals were how I got started. And as you said, you have to earn the referral. The person who referred me thought I was a disciplined student and referred me to a client on a budget. And the rest is history as they say. Nice vid!
I just got out of high school and I wasn't really sure if wanted to be an architect. I discovered your channel this week and it was so enlighting. Now I understand better what's an architect job like and that's exactly how I picture myself in a couple of years. Thanks so much !!!! Love ur videos dude.
As a student that aspires to be an architect, I take so much inspiration from you're videos. Each and every one of your videos, show me lots and lots of various skills that I can practise and develop into the future. Eric, thanks so much for all the inspiration and help throughout the last couple of years. Jason :)
I know this is an old video, but WOW! I'm not an architect, but deep diving into the industry as a digital design, so I can position myself expertly to help them from a design, branding and marketing perspective. Thank you so much for the video.
Right now on my to do list is watch all your videos and repeat. Somehow I instantly connect when you start speaking and do not miss a single word. Love your work.
Definitely going to keep following you. Trying to get licensed before starting a sole proprietorship, so watching any video like this and seeing others make it happen makes me hopeful. Thanks for sharing!
Am just about to restart my journey afresh as an architect, I love nd respect you, one thing that strikes me is ur business approach to problem solving, Its near to my heart ❤
I'm a 49 yr old architect who is just now taking the plunge as a sole practitioner. Your content and info is incredible. I have ordered your books because there's so much I have to learn in the years ahead. Thank you!
I also keep a folder of all the projects I said no to! I think its a really great way, no matter how long you've been running your business, we can feel insecure at times and a little reminder to calm down in that moment is all you need to reassure yourself that "it's going to be ok!" (Of course, if you're doing the work to market yourself and not just hoping for clients to land in your lap!) Love your videos!
This video is one of the best from "30x40 Design Studio" for people looking to improve their businesses. I will be very happy if I can get to the next step this year with some of the points you highlighted Eric. Following your channel helped me to focus on important issues to get back to work and your enthusiasms lifts me through rocky periods. Unfortunately, I am not sure where am I heading to (this is one thing to figure out this year) and I am proceeding slowly and with difficulty to find enough time, but as much as I feel frustrated sometimes having to look after my children (being trapped in the housewife role), now I realise that they can be another source of creativity, a new windows to the world. There is opportunity everywhere with the right approach. Thanks! x
You did it again! Straight game for young Architects and designers to get started and explore what works for them. I appreciate your content! Thanks again.
thanks! im a struggling architect! im already in my 30s and im still not having much luck with projects and clients. its a good talk! im going to try some things i learned from this video!
Agree 100% regarding referrals in getting projects. Referrals, referrals, referrals! But also: always remain true to yourself as the client hires an architect as a person first.
I've always relied on referrals to get projects, but I've decided to actually market myself and my business this year. Thanks for your video, it's exactly what I need!
Im more inspired now. Gathering guts here. Though im not an architect, im in love with the arts and beauty of building. Thanks for the great words of wisdom. 👍👍👍👍
This is an awesome video. I just launched a drafting and design service before Christmas, then got pneumonia (fun!), so although I've laid a lot of groundwork and done a lot of research on who I should market to, pneumonia really took me off track and it's been difficult to get a grasp of who I should market to. As I'm not an architect (yet), I have limitations on what I can do and for whom. I also discovered my limitations based on the tools I have available. I recently heard a man say this. If you imagine a navy approaching a beachhead in a storm preparing for battle, there are three kinds of people: 1. Those who, from the bow of a ship, only see the storm 2. Those who, looking out from the ship to the beach, only see the obstacles 3. Those who, from the ship, only see the objective This video has helped me a lot to clear my head and set me back on the right path. Thank you for this one!
Your videos are really helpful ..... I'm a student and in 6 months I'll b an architect and was really worried about how I'm going to start . You always do have ways . And really appreciate the help u always provide
Yet another great video Eric. I've been kicking around the idea of hanging up a shingle for several years now, and each time you post a video like this it is inspiring. Keep up the good work.
Wooooa best video so far in my long binge from your channel. Hey man...thank you, you are truly very generous. Wishing u the best in this weird and troubled times. And thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
Great advice, I'm actually a Wealth Manager and I was here to get another perspective and love your content, as there's a bit of architect in me! Thanks.
This video came at just the right time. I started my new business this month and trying to get the social media down. I'm a building designer not an architect. But your videos and this one in particular gives me a much straight forward view of the direction I need to go. Thanks Eric.
Thank you! Your video came just in time! I was actually very overwhelmed with how to start and where to start from but I guess the universe does really listen to us when we ask. very inspiring and motivating indeed. thank you again.
So you got me...I'm 51, started my own design studio focused on furniture, cabinets, and millwork, in early 2019, and it's still slow going. Totally agree that clients arrive when its time and projects always have a way of arriving to meet the financial needs. I have a list of revenue streams that I am attempting to work on, but passive income is something that I hadn't heard before and is a bit intimidating since I'm largely disinterested in content management via socials. However, you present a deep challenge here, and it's one that I have been contemplating for years: that of building relationships with future clientele so they know you and trust you as a knowledge resource (via the internet and socials...oh the irony) before they ever need you to actually design anything for them. I am similar to you in that I have done podcasting for years, have done photography for 3 decades, video editing and producing, and I love writing. Putting all that together into a business model is something that has been difficult to grasp, but this video has helped me to see it from a different perspective. Your platform and voice has certainly been a source of motivation for me the last two years...I"m now fully entrenched in Notion because of one of your videos. Keep after it.
Great as always, Eric. Vey much instructive, teaching and educative.!! As for you Tm Ferriss is your Yoda, you are mine. I have your books and toolkit, and you are a inspiration to me. Every day trying to improve my self and my sole practice. Cheers, Eric, keeping doing that ofr all of us.
This is super helpful! I'm a student of Architecture almost in my final year. Learnt so much on how I can get new clients now and when i'm done with school. Thank you so much.
You are an inspiration, i take your notes seriously and i know it's all truth and comes from creative architect .. thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas always ..
I never fail to get value from your content. Thank you so much for your efforts. I am really glad to see you making headway in this new and ever-changing marketplace.
I've been self employed as a licensed General Building Contractor since 1985 and wished I had the access to resources back then in my beginning years that's readily available now days to everyone that's interested in learning. Like you said, they don't teach the business side of you chosen profession in college.
A great place to start are City, County, State bid boards. They are always advertising Requests for Proposals or Requests for Qualifications for A/E Services for public works. You would be surprised at how few firms apply to a lot of this advertisements. ESPECIALLY IN RURAL AREAS.
Hi everyone, I am an architectural/interior designer from Hong Kong. I am curious on the rate that successfully getting a client through social media marketing for architecture/building project in other places. . The reason I am asking is I feel like the investment for an architecture/building project is too much, it’s different from other design services like graphic/website. Client in my place would not look for designer through social media. For residential project, it may works for small scale project. But for commercial project, it seems referral is still the best way to get client. (At least in my place) Have not said that, I have been following this channel for awhile. This is my first comment and I want to give my sincere thanks to Eric for constantly provide value to us and this industry. You are a great mentor to me and to all designer/anyone in this field. Keep it up:)
Hey Eric, Yours videos are so inspiring. Whenever I feel like I need to learn more about architecture and all this stuff i jump into your channel. its really great.
There’s some great advice on here. I’m fortunate to have built up a good network. That’s keeping me busy, but taking time away from building my online profile. I can definitely see the benefit in this approach for those starting out without existing connections.
Thanks so much! This is a good resume of what is necessary to do in order to carry out a good online marketing for an architect! Watching things done is the best way to put everything organized in your own agenda with a plan and a strategy! often one have perfectly in mind what your lifestyle must be but he do not have the courage in the heart and the confidence to achieve it
Another great video. Very inspirational and informative for me and my small business. Something to aim for and keep me busy when next I am at a loose end!!
I partially clicked on this link for background noise (sorry) but this is legit helpful and practical advice. I wish I came across this a year or two ago.

Hey Eric! I'm really grateful for your work! I love the quality of your work. I have learned so much by watching your videos. I am currently building my business as a designer in Montreal. I'm definitely interested in your course. Thanks for adding value in my life.
I really appreciate the advice. My practice is in a bit of a rut and I’m looking for ideas on how to attract new clients. Websites, content and social media haven’t been my strong suits but I’m going to change that.
