    Let me put the salary in perspective
    I'm an Architectural Technologist 3 years university and I have worked 8 years professionally post study to get to £40k.
    In UK architectural Technologist get to a higher number faster then architects because the 3 year degree is classed as a finished degree whereas architects have to do the whole 7 years study before reaching £40k.
    My wife just graduated as an optometrist starting salary post university and 1 year pre registration £40k plus.
    Makes me feel like I have wasted my time doing architecture.
    To anyone about to do architecture. Dont! Passion doesnt pay cost of living and you do not want to work until your pension age. Look for financial freedom from your career, not to work your whole life and be tied down.

    Great tips, Could you do a video on what masters / Post graduate degrees are prone to be the best niche field of architecture for junior architects to learn and pursue a promising career in?

    I want to be an architect when I’m an adult. I’m currently 16 and I’m taking extra design and business classes and doing a lot of home research it’s very overwhelming.

      I am a 34 year old architect and I would advise you to think long and hard before embarking on an architecture career. Or you might end up becoming your nickname. Especially if you want more than one kid (or any kids for that matter) and a family. If you think of leading a monk-like existence and being married to your job for the rest of your life - then you might be fine. I plan on changing careers and I will return only if and when the current problems with fees are addressed in a satisfactory way.
      Good luck!

      Without considering the current situation, what are the problems an architect faces?

    • @parvanboyukliev116
      @parvanboyukliev116 4 года назад +16

      @@SURESH-ee2dr Long hours. Underappreciation both financially and morally (for the services we provide). Everybody is second-guessing you and think that they know better. Having to coordinate an ever increasing number of specialties - water, HVAC, structural, lighting, acoustic, electrical... Coordinating is VERY time consuming and therefore architecture is not a scalable enterprise, unlike engineering or accounting. Another problem is legal responsibility. You carry a lot of responsibility - while your building exists, or until you die.

      It is an occupation and a practice just like any other business. Yes, nothing wrong with enjoying what you do but it is if you can find clients to pay reasonably or a sustainable fee. The reason it may look like a rich man’s hobby if the cause a well connected architect or ones who get noticed by financial decision makers . Possibly how inconvenient it is to replace you can be an advantage. Money gives you choices.

      Not a lot of architects we’re good at drawing in the beginning (before they started on school).
      But after a lot drawing in school all different types you will find the one you like and you draw it more often and get better at it.
