It was an excellent place to grow up in as far a projects go. We had wide open spaces, a swamp to skate on, hills to sled on, a creek along the high, woods, trains and a river with the 6 arch bridge. There aren't many people that can say they grew up in the projects and had a tree house. Shaughnessy Terrace rocked. My heart breaks every time I go by there and see it torn down.
Mike, that brought the biggest smile to my face... I think I'm going to do my own version of that song... Thanks for the smiles. Brought back a lot of memories...
Excellent song!! A friend shared it on Facebook and then I did the same. I've had a lot of people share it from my page as well as comment. So many places, people, activities you mentioned are what we group up with. I know Shaughnessy Terrace well. Spent a lot of time there. I grew up on Moore St and spent quite a bit of time at O'Donnel Park. Definitely did a lot of train hopping, swimming in the canal, everything. Great stuff!!
Oxie, I've been living away from home for about 5 years now and when a good friend's mom posted this yesterday my hair stood on end. Feeling wicked nostalgic and these tunes really moved me. Thanks a lot man. Please keep it coming. I love my hometown and I'm glad we have an anthem now!
I just came across this Michael..I love you and miss you dearly..I was actually looking at the Biden town hall from last night, and when I saw you on the sidebar that shows other videos,I couldn’t believe it…You were there…so now I’m here..I love you baby…I’ll miss you forever…July 5 th , 2021… you died…..and changed our lives forever..
Ibelieveinmisoul, the swamp I was talking baout was behind the maintenance building. where the ball field was. It was a big swamp and there was plenty of room to skate. We used skete on it, have parties on it and burn christmas trees on it. What years di you live there? We current have a group exclusively for Shaughnessy Terrace folks. Who did you know?
i have now watched your other songs, as well as the slide show version of this! what an interesting neighbor you are, Oxie! come play down at the BoKitch some Saturday night!!
I do remember those freights. In fact I posted a story the other day about it on the Facebook group The Misfits Of Lowell. Can't paste it here because it's too long but you're welcome to come join us.
I'm re-doing the slide show to add additional slides. I got a bunch of old pictures from people who viewed it on FB to add to the slides. One of the pics is of a mother standing in her Shaughnessy Terrace kitchen with Sunday morning curlers in her hair.
Thanks for this info., as I watched it and then when I wanted to share it with my husband it was locked, so when do you think we can see it or rather when will you finish the project??? Sent it to my sister in law in Calif. and when she seen it she cried. Thanks Gary , great work..
I have several more verses that metion diners and stores, etc. It was a 5 minute song as it was and I didn't more for fun than anything on the lowell board on Facebook, but I will add a new video soon with a bunch more verses. Thanks for listening. I had no idea it would be so well received.
