No, the stadium's security would've been watching the crowds-baseball mitts, rolled-up player posters, a promotional t-shirt over an arm. *Never* would've let a man open an umbrella along the way. Never would've allowed departing spectators slow down to have a spat with others passing by in the opposite direction, much less refer to them as "pretty boy". You would have *felt* an Army-like presence in the streets that day, but none of this happened. It was a violation of the *most basic* protection codes that exist. And it's the best indication of a massive plot in Queens.
@@fede018 Seinfeld did use a laugh track but many of the episode segments were filmed live...it's most likely actual laughter from one or more of the takes of this scene.
@@vd3364 True! But it wasn't really a handicap to the show, at all. I don't know why but it never bothered me even a little. Probably because the show and the other actors were that great that it just shined over Seinfeld's bad acting.

I love how Kramer & Newman especially Newman look like they're all angry with Hernandez at first and then when Jerry told his side of the story, they look really nervous and shy as if they just told straight out lie. Holy crap I just noticed at 1:35 The way he moves. I respect that: *that’s* how you build up a spit, you need to psyche yourself otherwise your spit’s trajectory isn’t even going to get past your chin.
Funniest part is Wayne Knight was actually in the movie JFK. He was an aid who helped out Kevin Costner's Jim Garrison and is used in the exact same way in describing the magic bullet theory. And the best part is Wayne Knight's character in the movie is named Newman.
@Scorp308 Keith Hernandez explained later in the episode that the spitter was Roger McDowell (he had played for the Mets at the time). Newman and Kramer admitted they were cursing at him all game, so McDowell took his revenge on them. :)
I LOVE how the Kramer/Newman/Hernandez clip is shot like the original jfk video with the man with the umbrella and the man with the camera on the opposite side and with a vintage filter. Plus Newman/Wayne Knight who recreated the scene about jfk in jfk is here parodying it. Pure Genius!
the amazing thing about how brilliantly they filmed the Zapruder portion of this is that upon the first viewing I did not even notice Roger McDowell (who is clearly visible during the recounting to this scene). It's a credit to how arresting a physical performer Michael Richards is, as well as how brilliantly this is all constructed, that my eyes never left the foreground...
Making light of such a serious historical event is not easy, but they did a great job. Send Jerry to Dallas and let his take over that investigation. That whole thing is a comedy anyway. In Jerry's skit, he ends the scene with the sad thing is, we may never know. Jerry, we know.
I've finally seen JFK and had to come back to this. It all finally makes sense. It's so perfectly done, even Newman in the same position as in the movie.
+Byzantium Which was in theaters when this episode aired. Later in the episode Keith and Jerry are discussing seeing a movie, and Keith asks Jerry if he has seen "JFK."
I remember watching this episode in 1992 and laughing hysterically, which I never do with a sitcom. All I could think was "WHO WRITES THIS STUFF???" Years later I learned about the fortuitous meeting with Larry David that merged his manic insanity with Seinfeld's observational humor to produce the comedy writing equivalent of Lennon-McCartney. Pure genius.
Interestingly, Wayne Knight (Newman) was also in the Oliver Stone film JFK, as part of Jim Garrison's staff, playing a character called Numa Bertel. Numa sounds like 'Newman'. I'm guessing that the Seinfeld parody followed the film. Either way, it adds an extra layer of hilarity to an already great Seinfeld moment.
Newman appears in the same position as he did in JFK.. If you ever watched the investigations into the truth, the "pausing" of the spit in mid air is the funniest because that's what the magic bullet of B.S. did. At least they found out Keith didn't do it and wasn't used as a patsy. Of course common sense was used by Larry David and Larry Levin. Brilliant writing.
0:36 The black umbrella is a reference to the "Umbrella Man" from the Kennedy assassination. A man was photographed holding up a black umbrella in the moments before Kennedy was shot, even though it wasn't raining that day.
