The theme of the last episode is to rewrite your wrongs. It’s never truly too late to change paths or course, no matter how bad or good it’s been. In the case of Saul, and the entire episode, we were allowed to “time travel” between BB, post-BB, Pre-BCS, and post-BCS and see where Saul could have changed paths. The finale was so thoughtful and profound, honestly very rare in TV these days where everything needs to be about some plot twist or use of violence of sorts. BCS gave an ending that is thematically so perfect.
Specifically, it’s a love story and Jimmy prioritized redeeming himself to Kim over his own freedom. I don’t think he does this if Kim wasn’t in the picture.
@@thumper5839 he definitely doesn't. he needed Kim for that confession, but it was also for himself. he admires Kim, and she did what he never had the courage to do.
I think the last episode is the shining moment of Gene's part of the story. Nippy and the other episode were good but kinda goofy. Saul Gone really stuck the landing, though.
Him doing the same job in prison as he did at the Cinnabon also retroactively highlights that his life as Gene was nevertheless a prison: worse so in fact because at least in prison he can unload his guilt and be himself without hiding.
I think what’s great is how they managed to tell a surprising end to the story and yet even in the writing room it was the only one that ever fit. It’s like it wrote itself. Brought the whole thing to a close perfectly.
“It’s like it wrote itself”. Well put. That’s the experience any great writer / storyteller has-it flies through them and often they are as intrigued by how it turns out as an audience and then looking back it’s perfect.
They definitely made the right call with how they ended the series. Life in prison is exactly what Jimmy deserves. It's full circle from the very beginning in the episode 103 flashback where Chuck gets him out of prison (and he even betrays when Chuck says "If I do this, don't make a fool of me."). Also, we never truly saw anyone throughout both series go to jail for their actions, so we get to see justice be served while showing a different, deserved ending to close out the BB/BCS world. It's a masterful work of art.
Not really, it's like Skylar, she was complicit but knew when to draw the line. Also Kim was never involved in Walter White's empire like Saul was, which was the main reason he went to jail. The worst thing she ever did was help get Howard killed and because it can never be proved because no evidence exists and almost all witnesses are dead, except Jimmy, who is in jail anyway. You're just salty.
Kim most likely got sued by Howard's wife for defamation. Other than that, she isn't guilty of the same crimes Jimmy was, so it wouldn't make sense for her to also get life in prison.
And Peter Gould, who wrote and directed the final episode and was the showrunner for the entire series whereas Vince was out from the middle of season 3 through the end of season 5.
The best ending of all would’ve been Jesse getting caught in Alaska due to the fact that they found the vacuum cleaners number in the dumpster that Gene left in there… Full circle
I hated the ending of BCS just didn't feel authentic to the character, Jimmy would have taken that 7 year deal. But I respect Vince a ton for the amazing series he has created.
4:24 "it sounds very Judeo-Christian ya know whatever, morality or whatever".. really? This guy. He mumbled and stumbled with such hesitation to only justify saying he "paid for his sins”. What are you afraid of Gilligan? What a chump.
Chump who was responsible for 2 great shows. He believes his audience is smart enough for their own interpretations. These shows don't need to hold your hand the whole time

I felt like he actually liked and care about it. Thats why he called the Cinnabon to make sure things were gonna run smooth afterwards.
It was a great ending!

I could’ve thought of 1000 better endings, the show was perfect up until the last 4 episodes

Thank you Vince for everything you have contributed
Love vince, such a good guy, always so articulate and thoughtful which comes out in the shows he produces
Don't read that book from that "Friends" writer.
I would watch 100 different breaking bad spin offs if this guy and his crew is behind it all…
I love this man. Vince it's so damn kind and charming.
Yes. He most certainly is. Holly Rice is a very lucky lady
He's comes across as such a humble guy! Hard to believe he's the genius writer behind this show!!
He did work on some of the best X-Files episodes too.
Looking forward to the next TV series written by this Genius ! I’m going through withdrawals already ….
Bob Odenkirk's portrayal of Jimmy/Saul/Gene is a great work of art.
From bREaking Bad to baking bREad
What he said about being a cockroach made me think about Paulie in the sopranos. The lone survivor sun tanning lol.
In the Bible Saul became St. Paul.
Better call Paul?
Thank you, Vince, for the clarity! All of the explanation videos by fans seem ridiculous now.
BCS was an independent show until last series.
Most of em have to watch BB to actually get to know how Saul became Gene
Anyone else going to rewatch Breaking Bad now?
If so, how many times have you already watched it? 🧐
eventually i want to rewatch all of saul, then breaking bad before the final four episodes of season 6 of bcs
6 times & I’m still in awe of the show
@@SlapYou2Sleep Wow nice! I've only run through it once and have forgotten a lot since.
Thanks for sharing!
Twice
Eisen praising Gould.
such an incredible show!!!!
Peter Gould is more responsible for BCS than Vince
Vince Gilligan is "The Golden Age Man"
Jessie did worse than Saul. Bloke killed someone
Brain dead take
Vrabo Bince!

Kim should have went to jail too, and the fact she got away just because she feels bad is such bullshit.

Most of the crimes he was incarcerated for happened after Kim was out of the picture...he even explained it at his trial.
Women don’t go to prison
Kim most likely got sued by Howard's wife for defamation. Other than that, she isn't guilty of the same crimes Jimmy was, so it wouldn't make sense for her to also get life in prison.
Pretty true to life, if you ask me. Judges and people in general take it easier on women.
Fucks sake Rich get a glass of water
celebrate great writing it's not prevolent in present times
It was just odd how Jimmy was already waiting in the yard by the time Kim would have left the room.
Bro spawned

Good ending, I STILL contend a better ending would’ve been Kim and Jimmy smoking the cigarette in the cell…fade to black. Created by a Vince Gilligan.
And Peter Gould, who wrote and directed the final episode and was the showrunner for the entire series whereas Vince was out from the middle of season 3 through the end of season 5.
A cockroach survives, and now hes in prison. But a lot can still be accomplished from prison........
The best ending of all would’ve been Jesse getting caught in Alaska due to the fact that they found the vacuum cleaners number in the dumpster that Gene left in there… Full circle
Pffft yeah Fuckin right
Don’t think they could bring it back to him
Bruh
Stupid ending. My opinion.
Kinda underwhelming end, shouldve had Kim trying to help him get out or not spending the rest of his life in jail
Or they rekindled their relationship
I hated the ending of BCS just didn't feel authentic to the character, Jimmy would have taken that 7 year deal. But I respect Vince a ton for the amazing series he has created.
He done it for Kim. He wanted to admit his wrong doings to show to Kim he had a heart and wasn't Saul anymore.

Not everyone wants to bring God into every good vs evil conversation
Who came in your cereal buddy? 😂
Breaking Bad was outstanding, but Better Call Saul and El Camino completely sucked. If i ran the planet, Id have Gilligan executed.
