    Okay, I just watched this video... it’s funny when you mention the snake on the menu & then say something like, “of course, the minute I say that, I can’t find a menu with snake” Kind of like that sound my car makes , until I want the mechanic to hear it . Also you seem happy on the video, which is good to see . Great job! Wonderful trip...another “trip of a lifetime!! Keep it up!

    I've been sold on Siem Reap as an ideal retirement destination for about 3 years now. You did 'nothing' to ruin that belief ! --- Expats rave about it often - many if not most as a tourist destination though. Younger digital nomad types apparently get a bit bored and move on to the Capital for more 'excitement' ! Older people seemingly don't require the extra excitement. Low cost of living and a tremendous food selection combine to appease most elderly - and the city has about all the necessities expats would want ? --- My pick overall - when the "retirement visa" for 55 and older expats is considered ! No other country I have found in the world is more friendly for retirement. 👍 ❤ ✌ 🙏 👌👋 👊 🍺

    The money situation is actually pretty simple. Leave the That baht out of the mix - very few people use baht in Cambodia.
    Cambodia doesn't use coins like Thailand which makes things simpler. I hate dealing with a pocket full of coins.
    Cambodian currency 101 -
    Here are the denominations of Cambodian currency and their U.S. equivalents:
    100 riel = about two and a half cents.
    500 riel = 12 and a half cents
    1,000 riel = 25 cents
    2,000 riel = 50 cents
    5,000 riel = a buck and a quarter
    10,000 riel = two and a half dollars
    20,000 riel = 5 dollars
    50,000 riel = 12 and a half dollars
    There are a few other oddball denominations, but like a 2 dollar bill, you don't see them out in the wild very often.
    Wrestle with the numbers above for a bit and it all starts making sense (no pun intended).
    The key is to remember that 4,000 riel equals 1 USD, and that 1,000 riel equals a quarter.
    Note:
    These numbers aren't exact, but good enough for day to day transactions. The current exchange rate is 1 USD = 4,070 Cambodian riel.
    Pro Tip:
    Try to keep some smaller bills on you (500 riel to 10,000 riel, and/or $1 and $5 bills)
    If all you have on you are $20 or 50,000 riel notes, many vendors will have a hard time making change.

      Good comment and very accurate. My issue is that I then have to convert the USD to AUD to actually see what I am paying. So a 10,000 riel beer, is $2.50 USD which is $3.75 AUD. I feel like Rain Man constantly doing calculations in my head. But its all cheap, so doesn't really matter

    • @BuffertheTourist

    • @AAWGASHTADS
      @AAWGASHTADS 2 месяца назад

      I just drop the conversion gymnastics . It's like comparing kilos to pounds or anything else . I'm not buying pounds I'm buying kilos and I'm not spending $'s I'm spending Riel . I'm in Cambodia I use Riel and that's that . If my budget is 6 Million Riel a month then that's what I keep an eye on

    • @bushputz
      @bushputz 22 дня назад

      @@AAWGASHTADS
      Yeah. Once you get an ABA bank account, all the conversion stuff goes right out the window. Almost everyone uses ABA Pay. You just scan the QRC code, enter the amount you want to pay, and that's it.

    GREAT VIDEO... However the Khmer Rouge is a more complacated than most people think. Pol Pot went after all of the wealthy people that the poor thought was selling them out. Kind like what is happening with the Chinese coming in now and buying up so much of Cambodia land and forest. Someone is getting that money and its not the poor people. This could lead to another breaking point like in 75 hopefuly not I prey they fix it within before that ever happens again. I am not a supporter of Pot or againest him only instressed in learning the culture, history and languge. Did you know its illegal to leave the house with no underwear lol 😅 so much to learn. Beautiful people there and land.
