Living in NJ all my life with some of the strictest/craziest gun laws in the country, and buying property in beautiful Portage Lake a few years ago with a plan to hopefully move to someday. The direction Maine is moving in is very disappointing . JUST VENTING

Never be too busy to spend a day with your children and always pick up the phone when they call... People are always strapped for time these days, just remember, no amount of money can buy one day or turn back the hands of time.

Love listening to the deer camp stories hearing you chew the fat. I wish I had an upbringing like this. I don’t own a deer camp but I am trying to make some memories in the woods with my boy
Deer stories are great! Hey, deer camp is many things to a lot of different people. For some it's a physical camp, but others it's a tent, a camper...heck, even the back of a vehicle! It's about the coming together with a common goal. Enjoy that with your son👍
I hunt in MN and have just found your channel. Enjoying your videos. I’m 39 and will be 40 in December. Everyone in my family that heads out in November for deer prefers to sit in a stand. My grandpa taught me to still hunt, and he and I did a little tracking in my young teens. Now, nearly everyone in my group has aged out, or had to give it up for medical reasons. I no longer have a party to hunt with. I’m a loner in the woods. As much as I enjoy the solitude, when I have success, I miss being able to enjoy the moment with someone. Or enjoy someone else’s success. But last year I killed a nice 8 point nearly a mile from the nearest trail, let alone road. The drag was worth agony. But as I get older, I’m starting to think about how far I am from my truck.
Your story is a familiar one. It's hard to hear deer hunting groups dissolve. I also enjoy the solitude, but there is something about sharing a hunt with someone. Congrats on the nice buck last year👍. Nothing like a good drag to make it worth it😁. Good luck this fall!

Gang of us hunted Aroostook county from 85 till 08 or so. We hunted out of wall tents. Last season some young hunters that heard many of our stories asked me to take them up,and show them them what it's all about. Next generation all comming back this year. Old man also! Barry, nj
Question; I was aways taught to never hang deer by their antlers or neck,, always from their back legs behind the achilles tendons. (True story,, I shot my first buck when my Pop wasn't home. I dragged him home rinsed him out with icy cold water to cool the meat and proceeded to hoist him up with the rope wrapped around his antlers that I dragged him home with,. Although my Old Man was proud I had bagged a nice 200Lb, 8 point buck,, he then read me the riot act for hanging him from the antlers. I didn't dare ask why. I have heard that from other "Older Hunters as well.) I was told it's out of respect for the deer. Maybe in reality its just for processing reasons. Either way, I see most hunters hang them from the hind legs. Is there a reason you hang them this way? Just curious of your thoughts.. ~Best
Excellent question! I know some hunters feel it's disrespectful to the deer. It's something I don't usually give much thought to because it's how most in the northeast do it or have always done it. There are 3 logical reasons why we hang deer head up 1) It's traditionally how we did it and convenient 2) it sheds the elements better (rain, sleet, snow, debris shed off the deer better when hung at camp) 3) makes rinsing out the inside easier once back at camp. I was just a younger but feel like there was definitely more deer and bigger deer in the 1990s. Seems there was one or multiple 200lbers taken every year in this camp and probably most camps but today they still take 200lbsers just more of a rareity.
In 1990 I made a trip to Colorado to bow hunt mule deer and I remember it was last of August and the whole trip was cold and rainy ,, left NORTH Carolina and went to Colorado,,cold and rainy when I left and cold and rainy nine days later when we came back.
Live in Maine but snowmobile in NH and LL cote store is a dream. Not as big as kittery or bean but picture ll bean with an ace hardware, and snowmobile supplies.
It seems to be that it’s 72 hours after your background check. So an online sale will be included because you’re transferring from your local FFL. It just makes a mess, Kittery put out a comment saying it would hurt their business extremely since people will be able to go across the boarder to NH where it’s also Tax free and walk out the same day.
Truly enjoyed this one. Funny how other’s stories cause us to reminisce. Makes me wish I had kept a journal. Some of my best hunting friends are passed or moved away, but that’s the thing about memories, they may not be as clear with time, but no one can take them away. As for the waiting period, there is no evidence waiting periods work. They claim it is to prevent something bad. How do you measure something if it doesn’t happen? One question for you, at 33:35 in your podcast in the photo with the deer, is that a coyote on the end of the pole?

Concerning the new law requiring a 72 hour waiting period before you can pick up your purchase, it is a shame that the great State of Maine with its deep hunting traditions is bowing to the “WOKE “ political mob. Hopefully the residents of Maine will prevent it from turning into another NYS, or Massachusetts. Here in NYS semi automatic shotguns, rifles, and .22’s are highly regulated, you need a purchase permit in order to purchase and own one. If I wanted to purchase a used Remington 742 deer rifle, just like you guys use, it requires a registration and a permit. Another hoop the average citizen of this state has to jump through in order to enjoy our hunting traditions. On September 14, 2023 a law took effect that requires a background check to purchase ammunition, any ammunition, .22LR on up, and including shotgun shells. The background check, which is conducted by the NYS Police, adds another $2.50 - $3.00 to the purchase price of the ammunition. In a lot of cases the background check approval takes several days to be processed requiring the purchaser to return to the store to pick up the goods. These are only two examples of the many 2A restrictions New Yorkers have to deal with. Hopefully you don’t consider me long winded with this comment. Great video guys, Question, I know you said police and licensed security guards were exempt from the 72 hour waiting period, Are ex military exempt also? My reason for asking is because of The Lewiston shooting.and the shooter.

These recent gun laws are a perfect example of why local elections are so important. We have to vote in more reasonable people who will protect ALL of our rights. Especially the ones supposedly guaranteed in our federal Constitution. Every state where there is a liberal Democrat Governor, we have these restrictions.
You should look at the gun bill H.4885 Massachusetts just passed. Insane... Talk about gun control in 1 sweeping bill. After this all new england states are in trouble. Check it out for your next podcast...

On and on. RUclips, CAPEGUNWORKS, GOALS, CAM AND CO... The have some content. ..
Need to vote them kind of people out. It's getting worse here in North Carolina because of people migrate here and bring their liberal policies with them
I am a hunter and own many firearms. The purpose of these laws are to help stop people purchasing weapons for the wrong reasons. I have no problem with a waiting period. I as I believe all reasonable gun owners plan there purchases. I don’t need to walk out of a store I just walked into with a gun.
Yes, we all have different types of needs to be met. However, it essential destroys the sales to sports traveling to the state from afar, gun shows...etc. Consider this - What if you flew to a state for a 1 week hunt. Your firearm doesn't make it for some reason. How do you replace it?...how's that 3 day waiting period working out for you now?
The problem with your argument is that the 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. It's our right as an American. Have you ever heard of the black market? It's just as easy to purchase a weapon there with no 72 hour waiting period.

Glad you enjoyed it! I agree, 3 days is a pretty arbitrary. That is a coyote. I believe one of the guys shot it off of a gut pile.
