Melbourne continues to approve and build incredible skyscrapers… Eureka tower, Australia 108, next it’s Skybridge and Green Spine (STH BNK), all accented in gold. I love it!
You call this beautiful smh people like you make me sick. These eyesores can't hold a candle to the great work of architects that lived centuries ago. Come and see 1 high gothic cathedral in person and i promise, you will be disgusted by these so called marvels of modern architecture.
Nothing tackier than a gold building. Tacky.
@@andyrob3259 Gold is a key part of melbourne's history and identity so I assume its intentional
You can thank the Chinese and Singaporeans cuz they all invest in the city and county.
Huge monuments to the ultra-wealthy that do nothing to help the citizens below.
It’s an amazing feat of engineering, but when the company behind it is openly calling it ‘Melbourne’s most exclusive address,’ you can’t expect it to benefit any more than a handful of people.
As a melburnian i love our architecture and how much attention it gets on this channel.
We're losing people to QLD year on year according to today's news.
@@kelsey_roy depends on the reports you read. A lot of international students came to study at our world class education facilities. Majority of those left, either to their home countries or other states, to fast track the permanent residency. I think people will come back that did leave, whether its for the weather, culture, or availability of new land to build on.
I just wish the zoning wasn't so garbage
@@julm7744 gah such a waste though, if the inner suburbs supported medium rise construction there wouldn't be a need for suburbs to extend all the way to geelong
@@julm7744 I just don't think outward expansion is the way to go about achieving that. Melbourne's already on track to overtake Sydney when examining their growth rates and the cost of outward expansion on infrastructure and public services would be prohibitive

tall buildings are overrated anyways
Better than 108, that thing is disgusting, I hate looking at it driving through the city
@World2021Order been to Tokyo, amazing depth of construction but the city is all over the joint... like Godzilla is the town planner in charge (LOL)

How to design for differential deflection during wind and earthquake?
This building is on my driving route to work and I remember what was on the site before this commenced. It's going to be a magnificent addition to my cities skyline and proof that Melbourne is once again open for business
Isn't Melbourne world's one of the most expensive places to live
Melbourne is closed yo
What was there before this building? It looked like a low rise attachment to the Telstra exchange tower and some form of circular building. Was it a part of Telstra before? A sales center perhaps?
Can't wait untill someone made this buliding for cities skyline and upload it to steam workshop
It always has been open for business, we just need to get rid of Dan as he bankrupts us.
This is extremely impressive. I live an hour away from Melbourne, but travel there frequently.
It’s amazing to see how Melbourne’s skyline is changing and now that the Southbank by Beulah has been accepted to start construction.
Melbourne is really putting itself on the map and world stage for skyscrapers.

too bad Labor fucked the state up.
You’re welcome anytime

As a New Yorker, I am beginning to envy Melbourne's skyline and the imagination and creativity of its high-rises!
we are seen as the new york of australia with our great skyline and culture. i visited new york in 2018 and couldn’t believe the similarities between melbourne and new york. both are beautiful cities
As someone who lives just out of the CBD, there's a lot of ugly rubbish going up too, particularly on the north side with garish colours and tacky shaped cladding.

I just love any video about Melbourne because I think its the best city in the world. Probably because I live in it, but its just a gorgeous place that every other major city I've gone to doesn't have.

Skyscrapers, and especially the skybridges, are so majestic to look at. Since my childhood, I had only known about the sky bridge of the Petronas Towers but to get to know that there are numerous buildings and structures throughout the world having a skybridge is mind-blowing.
I bow down to the engineers who create such masterpieces!
This video has inspired me to catch a tram and visit the CBD for a day. Just walk around and take in the views. I now feel a bit sad living in this wonderful city and not taking advantage of the amenities. I sit in front of the computer watching too many RUclips videos.
I was in the arts building at Uni (UoM) yesterday, looking at the skyline when this exact building caught my eye. I literally thought to myself ‘I hope B1M does a video on this’ as it literally blew my mind seeing such a Singaporean-esq. skybridge in Melbourne
Looks good, I'm from Sydney but happy for Melbourne to getting another unique building 👍👍
Thank you.
I am a Melburnian living in adelaide so please sympathize with me.
Tell me how has sydney done coming out of this crisis?
Is the CBD recovering?
Is there vacant shops, buildings or is it doing well?
Never been there.
Beautiful building. I’ve never lived in the city like that before, and I often wonder about the neighbours.. like how do they feel when a new building goes up and takes up the entire view from their balcony? Where as there was nothing there before.. all of a sudden there’s this new towering complex
There are always apartments to choose from in buildings whose views will never be built out, due to their adjacency to parks, water and the like. But they come at a significant premium. Interestingly, the views toward Carlton Gardens from Sapphire By The Gardens aren’t necessarily guaranteed, as a proposal exists for a super skinny apartment tower to be developed in the tiny triangle of land in front of it (currently housing the Royal Society of Victoria).
one doesn't just need to buy the plot of land to build a skyscraper; one needs to buy the airspace from the owners of the surrounding buildings.
@@SAOS451316 what you said varies from one city to the next. Its all about building codes and even those can be changed by the city council.
@@AndrewDun1 good point Andrew but that parcel of land in front of Sapphire by the garden has been allocated to the world heritage environs area as part of Heritage Victoria’s World Heritage Environs Area Strategy - in other words there’s no way the authorities such as DELWP and City of Melbourne would allow for further development that undermines the area. Funny fact Sapphire is actually considered to be in that area even though it’s a brand new building. The strategy came into play after development had commenced.

I live across the street from this !! Have loved watching it come up !!!
This is the view I have from work, thanks for all the tech details.
Good location. I've enjoyed living in an apartment in that part of Melbourne, it's a way more livable space than southbank, where a lot of these large residential spaces are being built. There is lots of green to be seen and to be able to walk through. Close to nice restaurants, easy access supermarkets, retail, library, museum, IMAX. The views of the city skyline itself will be sensational from that spot. It's also a more quiet and relaxing part of the city. Perhaps the size of the development will change the energy a bit in that area, but hopefully it still retains a certain level of calm.
This really shows how Melbourne is basically the modern city of Australia whilst Sydney is like the OG bit more old fashioned city
Melbourne had loads of amazing Victorian architecture as well. Best of both worlds
thats until you try the public transport in melbourne RIP

just by the thumbnail I knew this was gonna be in Australia. Y'all are really building some funky looking shit
I work in a building across the laneway at the back of this project, so I've been watching it with interest since it was a hole in the ground. The overall footprint of the project is large - the skybridge provides a lightness that the two structures wouldn't have without it.
Clicked faster than lighting.
When we came to Melbourne in 1986 there was just the Rialto !! Once a single tree now in a forest.
Awesome! Would really want to visit Melbourne one day and experience this building
I'm not an engineer, but even though the buildings are rigidly linked together, won't there be some inevitable differential movement in high winds, which could damage the bridge? Say 200 kph winds?
The buildings would move a lot more if they weren't a single piece. They now have similar resistance to winds as a much wider building but without the added surface area. Yes, high winds will put a lot of torque at the joint between the tower core and the skybridge, but that can be factored into the design.
Unlikely it would be 200 kph, but I know Melbourne gets very windy. Up to 120 or 140 kph is not uncommon higher up. I know that In NY ( Manhattan) they get up to 160 km winds. The old WTC had that factored into it's design although I know it had massive floor plates ( one acre)
I prefer living closer to the ground lol you guys can have it
easier to escape when there's a fire drill or real fire.

Awesome video, as usual! I saw this building in person the other day and it certainly is striking. Love it or not, it's good to see better quality architecture and design being deployed in Melbourne, a city which has typically seen proliferation of lots of very tall, square towers.
Considering Melbourne didn't get it's first skyscraper until 1972 they haven't wasted any time building them.

Fantastic. Now if someone would just concentrate on removing all the graffiti and filth from around the streets... the rubbish and the pigeon poo... and if the trains would actually run when scheduled and weren't cancelled or late..... maybe lots of people will brave the cold, draughty, grey and dismal inner city streets to go have a look at it.
I always like the video before watching as I know what is in content is in store for me!
Parabéns pelo excelente trabalho realizado.
sorry but because of Dan Andrews ..... I like 60000 other people have left the state for good
Ok, and? People move all the time, what makes you think you're special for doing so? Or that you need to announce it publicly? Just a reason to whinge about politics or something like that, maybe? Also, 60,000 is around 1% of the entire population of Vic, give or take. Hardly even a dent on the overall population of the state. Good luck to you in wherever you moved to though, I guess
Actually Melbourne is not the fastest growing city … people have been fleeing in droves and has experienced the highest decline in population in the last two years:
that was just because of lockdown which is finished now

I'm soo conflicted watching these. On one hand, I marvel at the level of engineering we've achieved, but on the other, I am deeply concerned about the level of ostentatious display of wealth disparity in out society. It's truly unfortunate that the money being used to develop these engineering feats, is going to ultimately benefit so few people overall.
Only one problem, it’s in Melbourne!!.
A splendid video of a very interesting architectural project. I loved the graphics and explanation! However, i would've loved a few more full building shots of the final project from different angles with Melbourne in the background.
Another interesting video mate!
I am from Melbourne. All these new shiny towers are just trinkets, destroying what was once a beautiful city with hundreds of beautiful buildings from the 1800s and 1900s. Melbourne is turning into the new Dubai. Developers competing to build the tallest, shiniest, most gold-plated piece of junk possible. Meanwhile at street level pedestrians walk in the dark and get blasted by the wind. At least New York has set-back rules, so towers generally taper as they go up (well, that's the idea at least, a lot of the new stuff doesn't follow those ideals).
Sky bridges are nothing unique... here's another one.
it looks beautiful
I'm happy to say my company did the metal deck and shear stud installation on this sky bridge.
Most of the structure was assembled on the ground, to be lifted and installed as separate modules. Thankfully.
Only a few minor sections were filled in on site, which I was told was quite hair raising. Apparently the plywood deck wasn't much comfort.
Our company also did something similar for Australia 108, which was the metal deck and studs for those yellow bits sticking out of the building.
Once again, I was fortunate to do this while on the ground while other less fortunate blokes had to complete it over 70 floors up.
