Well, depending on what side of the apartment you live in, yes. This is to be expected in Melbourne's Southbank suburb though as it's where all the tallest buildings in Melbourne are built.
They're clearly there to launder Chinese money. They'll be owned but unoccupied most of the time. I don't think they'll care much; like the Russians "in" London don't.

I kind of like it. It's neither too flashy, nor too bland. It's got this subtle distinctiveness to it, and I really love the fluid shape of the facade. Hope someone makes a city skylines asset based on it. I'd love to have residential towers like this in my cities :D
Looking forward to the finished product. What I keep telling people though is how bizarre it is that New York built a 330m tower in 1930...and in 2019 we still haven't got a tower that big in Melbourne!

You should know that the Commonwealth Star is a seven point star. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_Star This is 8 points. It's not a real Commonwealth Star, no matter what they claim.
I like the green structure more, it really stands out from all the other smooth glass structures. The style is unique, at least to the surrounding structures, here's hoping it gets built. If I ever visit seeing these buildings would be amazing.

It's impressive, not to mention that the main highway into Melbourne gives you a perfect view of the skyline. I've driven a few people from elsewhere in the country into Melbourne, and I always hear a "wowwww" when you come around the bend and see the skyline. Not as much of a wow as when visitors get off the train at southern cross and walk out only to be right next to enormous skyscrapers...
Both city roads are crossing through everywhere make it look like a rubbish dumb from birds eye view. I wish it look like a massive rectangular parcel roads.but it isnt
I'm never going to be in the mix for it but i gotta admit: A chance to live in the highest residential (residencial?) building in the southern HEMISPHERE is quite the pull ^^ Great video, as always. Still, this one is as special to me as the Billionaire's Row projects. Wow, calling it projects gives it a whole new spin ^^
In terms of residential, yeah it'll be the tallest for a while. However just a bit closer to the river a hotel tower is going to be built that will be taller than both 108 and Q1 on the Gold Coast (by like 2 metres or something, a very small margin). I think it's called One Queensbridge, and will be the newest addition to the Crown Complex
well, here we are years later and the One Queensbridge has been cancelled. at least we've still got the STH BNK ready to start construction even though it looks fugly and seems like an engineering nightmare
@YT11Many Chinese are the developers & some are importing sub standard building materials. A lot of the buyers are Chinese, so they are victims as well. The real problem is that if you have a faulty toaster you can send it back and get refund, but currently if you spend thousand or even millions of dollars on a property, after 6 years if the fault doesn't appear then your stuffed. That's the fault of the NSW government.
That Green Spine tower looks super nice in the renderings. II saw a similar concept for Japan but I don't remember the name. I wish more towers would look like that.

@@wilwick756 Yeah they're pretty tall and all but nowhere near as tall as Melbourne's. My point is that Sydney is the economic engine of Australia, so they will naturally need skyscrapers, particularly tall ones.
you would think there would be more tall building in the southern hemisphere, since the building are hanging upside down and wouldn't have to hold up so much weight......
For 150 years they couldn't build anything over 2 stories high in that area because it was a drained swamp. Then in the 1980s they started building taller and taller buildings. There is a concert hall nearby that has it's foundations surrounded by a sealed membrane so it can float if the foundations subside.

My dream is to live in Australia 108 one day, I've been following it's construction progress from Hobart (looking online for photos since I don't live in melbourne) since Jan 2018. As a skyscraper enthusiast who wouldn't want to live anywhere but Australia, this is a dream come true... a very expensive, out of my price-range dream :(

Melbourne is pretty much the best city on the planet to live in. World class food, sport and entertainment, beaches and nice parks, booming economy, low crime, clean air. Really has a pumping vibe right now, mostly thanks to money pouring in from China via property and international students

I have lived on the 12th floor of the Eureka tower for a few months. The amenities were the best, the view from the apartment less thrilling
