    Petrograd was Leningrad under the Soviet Union, Look up the Siege of Leningrad or better, read Salibury's The 900 Days: The Siege of Leningrad. Occasionally you see veterans among the viewers, and it is clear that the memory runs deep.
    To get the scale of the battle, imagine all of the crowds in all of the NFL stadiums on a Sunday in October starved, died of exposure or were killed by bombs over the next two and a half years. That was just the civilian loss during the siege and the evacuation of survivors, many of whom were too weak for the movement. The military casualties were at least as large.
    The Victory Day Parade in Petrograd has to be the most deeply felt memorial parades around.

    🇷🇺💪🏼 strong Russia, strong me
    bless my grandfather for all he has done for Russia before the DP camps in Germany. Blessed be my grandmother to give birth to a Russian son. There are no words for what my father had to endure so far away from his fatherland. Jail, poverty and alienation from his culture, from the values of Russia and the honor to be part of a strong St.Petersburg. So much is lost. It breaks my heart to see the pain in his eyes till this day. I remember and won’t forget. This story broke his Russian soul completely. I wish it would be different but it isn’t. He never knew the books of his father existed nor was he able to read them. What a sad end for him. Thank you for this great military parade St.Petersburg. 🙏🏻

    • @PetrovFed
      @PetrovFed  6 лет назад +7

      Why? This march was very popular in Russian Empire beginning of XX century (because of name - Russia also has Double Eagle on Coat of arms), this march was known in times of USSR, now he continues to be played in Russia.

      PetrovFed wow I didn't know that. I was wondering why they have used Austrian music in V-Day parade. Thanks. By the way, Austrian creates great music too, like Radetzky marsch, wien bleibt wien marsch.

    Its interesting that marching troops do swing arms until they approach the reviewing stand, and then they do not. I am speculating that at the command EYES RIGHT that they then cease the arm swing in order to pass in review at the position of "attention"? can anyone confirm or deny? thanks :-)

    Could you explain me, why the Navy Guards Slow March is played when some non-navy unit is inspected? I have wondered this for a while. And am I right that other marches heard during the inspection (or when the general greets the troops) are not "regimental marches". For example, in some parade Slow March of Tankmen-winners was played when paratroopers were inspected.

      Greetings, dear, the whole point is that the number of counter marches is not as large as the marches of the ranks, for example, used directly during the passage of the parade calculations (troops) in a solemn march. In this regard, counter marches do not sound in accordance with the parade calculation of the type / kind of troops to which the commander of the parade, the general, drives up to greet and congratulate. In general, not every type and branch of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has its own counter regimental march. In the case of a marching march, it is increasingly diverse to pass through and almost every type / branch of the armed forces has its own march-a song that is the hallmark of a particular type / branch of the armed forces and in this parade, when passing, the music corresponds to the type / kind of troops being marched through. Sincerely, Alexander, musician of the military orchestra of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation 😊👏

      Hello, dear, I think that you are not quite right, these are Russian Imperial Marches, most likely they are simply written in the European style, Imperial Russia was in many ways equal to Europe.
