Just had a Q air arrive today, very timely video. Have only made a single brew with it so far. Was a great cup of coffee and not significantly less than my K Ultra. Fantastic value these small grinders are. Will say though, a lot more effort to grind. K Ultra is so smooth and fast by comparison.
I've had the Q2 since release a couple years ago. I have the Comandante too, but I use the Q2 for a single cup of coffee and never adjust it except for cleaning. When I brew bigger batches, I use the Comandante. In other words, I have dedicated grinders. That said, the Q2 is one heck of a grinder!
I just got that 1Zpresso for Black Friday and I definitively enjoy using it to brew with an Aeropress. I have a Fellow Ode 1st gen stock burr and I agree that it is not that easy to match the same grind size using the click system on this one, but still I've enjoyed dialing my brews.
6:50 - My trick for remembering which orientation I need to put it back together is to mark the butt end of the axle to point to my zero point. I take a pen and draw a little tick mark halfway across so that I can be sure I put the click plate back on the same way.
Marking it with a pen is a great idea, orrrr you could take a little metalworking chisel and put a little [gentle] nick on the spindle and plate. The Q2 that I ordered for grinding my wife's pour over coffee should arrive tomorrow, so I'll see if your idea works first, because I don't want to wack something out of alignment. LOL * On second thought, a metalworking scribe should be enough. Hahahaha
Been using a Q2 for about a year now with my aeropress when traveling to workplaces that don't have any decent coffee. Might think about a Q or Qair for replacement and use the Q2 for pour over at home. My other grinders are all espresso focused
Would love to see you look at the XPro in light of the Q review. Had one for about a year and it’s kind of like Apple’s SE models, lots of value but not the biggest and best. Uses the Q2 burr with a bigger capacity (30 grams), and external adjustments that are more espresso friendly. Kind of a budget K series. Would love to see that comparison. Found you on IG and loving the RUclips content, cheers
Honestly an excellent review! Now I can safely consider one (or Q air) for traveling. I have the K Ultra but I don’t feel like I should travel with that since it’s quite bulky and heavy. Not to mention if it happens to get lost or break during travels that would be a lot of money down the drain lol. Thank you for this review!
I love my Q2! It works well with flair pro 2 for espresso- can pull some good shots. The pour over is really good:) u can even put the Kinu pour over burr inside
Just bought the Q air to use as my travel (aeropress) grinder on a cyber Monday deal. Feels silly to own yet another grinder but at that price... Why not?
I have had the q2 hept for 1,5 years and I must say, it's amazing, for the price. Only problem is when grinding 50-60g for cold brew a have to do it in batches. Regarding the adjustment I prefer to count the clicks, rather than the 3 number system😅.
Not too huge of a fan of the foldable crank so I was lucky to find a Q2 Heptagonal with the older crank. Replaced the knob with something more "knobby" like the ZP6's and I have a portable powerhouse that I'd actually be happy to not just run daily, but even compete with HAHAHA I'd say this is the best bargain in hand grinders if you're looking for something that's almost endgame for most people. I used to recommend the Timemore C2 as a baseline, but this makes a strong case especially with its metal construction. If you're really pinching pennies, the Q Air would be my top reco these days. EDIT: As far as grind settings are concerned, I treat it like the C40. I don't use the numbers as a guide and instead rely on the number of clicks. Hassle, for sure, but I'd dare say it's very much a set-it-and-forget-it type of grinder. Find a sweet spot then adjust, as you said, by just a few notches finer/coarser, depending on the coffee.
I’m with you. Q is currently getting my top recc, and if someone balks at the price, q-air. I could totally be happy with just this grinder if I needed to be
@@UpNorthWay the problem is that it has long clicks and it is difficult to make adjustment. at 20 clicks the shot comes pretty well on my ecp 34.20 but already at 21 it has too fast a worflow and 19 seems too slow. it has little room to maneuver.
Also curious about the mavo phantox pro at this price range. Personally use a ZP6 and dont plan on getting a new grinder anytime soon, but ive seen ppl online say that one is popular in China with coffee ppl.
I love reviews like this. I wonder why so many coffee products have "air" in them? The Hario Air, the Q Air, the Knock Aergrind, etc. Thanks for the entry level introduction! I know where to point my friends if I manage to win them over on the specialty coffee side.
What roast level and style is your preference? In Canada the roasters I tend to suggest on the medium-light to light roast spectrum the most often are Hatch, Sorellina, September, Rogue wave. There are a ton of other great roasters in Canada. For now it’s pretty easy to order and bring into the Us.
@@DaddyGotCoffee I brew mostly manual pour-over (~70-50%), some espresso (pumpkin spice lattes October-December) (~25%), and some cold brew (during summer) (~25%). I rarely do French press, moka pot, and automatic drip (~10-15%). I love traditional espresso shots and I am willing to try modern coffees for pour-over.
Wait. The Q is the successor to the Q2?! I am Jack's confusion. I wonder... If you have to go coarser to maintain the same brew quality, could that mean there are more fines being produced by the NewQ(tm)? The pre-breaker teeth look more blunt, so perhaps they are causing more fines to be produced. 10:44 Lol, it looks like they're flexing.
II bought the Q2 (model no.: FGQ2T5 - the one with straight handle) in May 2021. About 1.5 years later its handle snapped in half after daily use. The material was/is too weak to hold up with daily use. Since 1Zpresso did not sell replacement parts back then I chose the C40Mk4 as its replacement. I´d never buy this grinder (even the newer one with foldable handle) again. Today I see it as a lesson learned and a waste of money.
Gostaria de uma comparação entre o Q air e o comandante. Tenho um Q Air depois de assisitr vídeos do canal. O sistema de contagem é muito ruim, eles imprimiram os numeros espelhados.
I was wondering the same thing. Picked up a Nano as my travel grinder - particularly for work - a while back, mostly for use with Aeropress, pour over and the occasional espresso with a Picopresso. Been generally happy with it, although capacity is limiting should my SO also want a cup. I have a K-Plus which is actually brilliant, but it’s a heavy thing when you want to travel light or when flying.
Excellent video thank you for this video. A review of the best grinders suited for aeropress would be awesome.

Coming from a porlex mini, it seems really quick Amex effortless to me. Also the taste difference is impressive
Great review of the Q2 grinder. * subscribed *
Would you consider doing a comparison with the Kingrinder P2? To my knowledge, they should have similar burrs

Had a Q2 now for nearly 2 years. Absolutely perfect for pairing with a moka pot.

How much you get it for? I'm hoping for a discount for the next Amazon prime day.

q2 has a slighly better burr. just get a better one for home
6:46 why not just make a mark with permanent marker on the right side of a shaft?

Perfect pairing!

Nice video comparing the grinders. Do you have any thoughts on the MHW 3 BOMBER R3 manual grinder?
I'm excited for the robot in the background. Hopefully a review coming up soon?

And here i am with my little kingrinder P2 looking at those end grade grinder like this O_O
What don't you like about it? I'm considering

Nice video but could you do a video for hand grinders for espresso and for travel when people use a mocka pot as thats all they can use.
I use q2 for moka pot when travel. So i can as well. I do 15g for moka pot 3 cup
Also curious about the mavo phantox pro at this price range. Personally use a ZP6 and dont plan on getting a new grinder anytime soon, but ive seen ppl online say that one is popular in China with coffee ppl.
It's the "Comandante killer" the just a pinch more brightness in the cups.
What is the brand of glassware you have? The double walled espresso shot cup and the “mug” you used for your pour over?
Looks like Kruve.
How does it compare to the Timemore C3? I remember you had a short with the C3.

Thinking of purchasing a specialty coffee subscription. Have any unbiased or affiliated suggestions and tips?

So the Q2 is the Q1 and the Q is the Q2…. How dumb am I not to find that intuitive? 😅
That's 1zpresso for you
That's just 1zpresso naming
How do people like rogue wave coffee!?
i just had their anaerobic decaf by Wilton Benitez (now sold out) it was delicious
@jadehendrix thank you for the reply I just got some of their Wilton Benitez pink bourbon and it is delicious
Their product naming really is the worst. WTH is the Q the successor to the Q2?
snowwwwwww
Hahahaha yup! Gonna be snow in the vids for the next bit!
