    OG mini user here I’ve had it for about 4 years and still going strong. Outstanding review and I agree with much of what you have said. The serviceability of the machines was one of the major selling points for me even as a home user. Also I would reiterate the frustrations of the app. The OG mini has had similar issues over the years and I’ve only seen marginal improvement with updates. Keep up the good work!

      Another user commented that instability can be caused by wifi networks that broadcast a bonded 2.4 and 5ghz signal. I killed the 5ghz from that network and the mini is already a lot more stable on a locked 2.4ghz network. If you have the ability to change this on your network give it a try.
      I could not get the mini to connect at all on a dedicated 5ghz network.

    Having been one of the first to get the LM-R in February, I think this is a great review. I also noticed it is susceptible to paint chips so well done for holding LM accountable.
    Hoping a future feature would be GBW sync so that it talks to a grinder to get the perfect extraction.
    Would definitely recommend the LM-R for anyone willing to pay a premium price tag.

    Thanks for the great review. I’ve had Linea Mini R for over 6 months in nearly daily use. I was first going for GS3/MP but chose this one after it was released. One is looks, but I really like the quickly adjustable pressure on the top. I frequently change the pressure depending on the beans. I also have it plumed in to get the 3 bar pre-infusion. With these features, among others, I’m able to brew excellent light roast espressos.
    I also agree it’s a little unfortunate that switching off the stream boiler affects the temperature stability. How it affects the actual taste, I don’t know. I rarely make any milk drinks but I keep the steam boiler on “just to be sure”.

    Great in-depth video as always. I own the flair 58 and for personal use I find it delivers so much value for the price and have used it for about 3 years now still no sign of wear and tear on the parts. Really hope to see a review of it in the near future. Also I really seem to like what the lelit bianca has to offer at the price with pressure profiling, pid control, preinfusion timed settings, dual broilers, and a live pressure gauge at the group head. I was wondering if a review of that machine would ever happened? Been wanting one as an endgame machine 😃

    • @DaddyGotCoffee
      @DaddyGotCoffee  5 дней назад +3

      Awesome, two incredible review suggestions and agreed on all counts. I’m working on getting a flair 58 +2 to review as well as a partnership that may open the door to Bianca and MaraX reviews (not at a point where I can self-fund ones that big yet!).
      The flair 58 is a truly killer machine at the price, and at the Bianca’s price point it’s really hard to recommend any 1:1 competitor explicity ahead of it. In Europe, the Bianca is priced even more competitively.
      Working on plans to do both of these reviews. Won’t be for a bit though

    I would have never thought I would spend so much money on an espresso machine.
    And here I am with my Strietman that has like zero "features", just manual espresso at its best.
    It took me a while to realize: hey , for that price you could have gotten a Micra or young Mini.
    It is a hobby, it is enthusiasm, not really "resonable".
    But great review- with gusto, but not blind praise.
    Exactly what we are here for ❤

    Great review,thanks! Sums up the little points mentioned in all other reviews online on the Mini R very nicely to be the most comprehensive one I’ve seen…. and believe me, I’ve seen them all!😅 In the end, for me I went with the Bianca instead as I couldn’t swallow the lack of profiling capability. The Bianca does offer the same pre infusion possibility while maintaining the pressure at the puck and I do like the look of the black one sitting on my coffee bar next to my black Key MK2 and EG-1 grinders. I do have to admit that I did look at the Minis on show at the Accademia del Caffe Espresso with some envy when I visited earlier this week. Now if only that paddle wasn’t just an on/off switch but could actually pressure (or flow) profile…. One can dream (and wait) I guess 😊

    Firstly, you have great taste and your attention to detail is first rate. It's obvious in every video you put out. As a Micra owner, I couldn't wait to hear your thoughts on the Mini R after I saw it in the background of your other videos. You didn't disappoint and even though I don't need a Mini R for my purposes, I still would love one with its new features. Like you said, it would be nice if you only needed Bluetooth and not WiFi to change some things but I if I make sure my phone isn't on my 5G network, I've been getting connectivity right away with the Micra. Super Salty's comment addresses your issue much better than I can.

    • @DaddyGotCoffee
      @DaddyGotCoffee  5 дней назад +1

      Thank you for the kind words! I did see that comment and messed around with my network settings. So far the best and most stable results are with dedicated 2.4 and 5ghz wifi networks. I have the mini on 2.4 (not bonded) and my phone on 5. Both broadcasting networks are on the same internal network, so my phone and mini can talk to each other while my phone can access higher speed.
      I still stand by my comments and agree. Full functionality on Bluetooth is needed for a variety of reasons.
      Thank you for dropping this!

    something I have been noticing with smart devices since I have been slowly "smartifying" my home. Is that many smart devices HATE when you have bonded 2.4ghz and 5 ghz wifi where only a single wifi name is displayed and based on signal integrity your devices will switch automatically.
    For whatever reason many smart devices hate this. Especially if they are only 2.4ghz compatible they will consistently lose their minds.
    Some are fine. Others aren't and it doesn't seem to be a cost thing. I have a few cheap single plug smart switches around the house which are happy as can be. And I have a ridiculously expensive smart vacuum mop that has all the bells and whistles. but it absolutely shits the bed with bonded wifi.
    It is so bad I just got a separate 2.4ghz only router on a channel as far from my main routers as possible. It's got tons of range and sits in my ceiling. It backhauls through a cable to my main router.
    Now I have no issues.
    I would hazard a guess your wifi connection issues to the machine are probably similar.
    If you have a router that you can temporarily selectively disable 2.4ghz to test. I suggest you do.

    • @DaddyGotCoffee
      @DaddyGotCoffee  5 дней назад +2

      Thank you SO MUCH for this! I have a robust Unifi home network for all the video stuff I do, several APs, switches, raids, the whole deal.
      I have a dedicated 5ghz network as well as a 2.4ghz network. BUT, I had bonded 5ghz onto the 2.4 network so that devices that could leverage it could take advantage of the speed while staying on the same network as everything else.
      I just took that off and the Mini is already a lot more stable 🥹🙏☕️ I haven’t had any issues with other smart devices, and I have a lot of them.
      I do stand by the comments made in this video. I am pretty network savvy and didn’t figure this out after many months. I also ran my connectivity issues by La Marzocco and a bonded network issue (or even 5ghz) never came up in that discussion. Also, this will still be an issue in pop up environments where wifi is not available/accessible.
      Would love to see this updated to ideally be as fully functional on Bluetooth only as it is on wifi.
      THANK YOU FOR THIS TIP 💪☕️🔥 I am sure it will be helpful to many others as well!

      @@DaddyGotCoffee No problem at all. Glad i could help. I struggled with it for a good while and I have been working in tech for a good 15 years. I assume it's a code related issue or the specific wifi module being used that may not have the best firmware.
      I am almost not surprised that La Marzocco don't know about this since many homes don't have bonded wifi like we do. It's becoming far more common, but still isn't as widespread since most homes just use the hardware they are provided from their ISP.
      Regardless it isn't an excuse on a piece of hardware at this price point, and to your point absolutely a problem in a pop-up scenario or potentially in highly wifi congested business areas.
      This really should just be using Bluetooth since it's not all that much data and modern bluetooth is fairly low latency. I believe bluetooth 5.4 is under 20ms and even 5.3 is around 100ms which is MORE than enough.

    Regarding temperature stability for the brew boiler, I have the Micra. I am not an expert in understanding the difference between the Mini and the Micra. However, there is a German review of the Micra that followed the stability between the brew boiler on vs both boilers on. They found very little drop-off unless a few consecutive shots were done. In your opinion, do you feel I am 'losing something' by not turning on the steam boiler as well on the Micra? Or, are the systems on each machine different? I only drink a couple of double espressos a day.

    • @DaddyGotCoffee

    To me, the Micra is right for the person in a smaller home who doesn’t entertain larger groups. The Mini is great for the homeowner who hosts larger family get togethers. They can request giant lattes, and you can deliver them quickly, back to back. Even if you only host a couple of times a year, those are important events, so a fast machine lets you get back to family without frustration.

      I’ve not had any long term experience with any of these (so far). The Decent has a huge community and a lot of street cred. I have heard that the user experience can leave a little to be desired and the flexibility can be overwhelming. The You I find intriguing - it comes at a high price point and I have heard mixed feedback on the UI and functionality. The Bicocca is super fresh, I haven’t heard much yet or even seen in person. I would like to eventually review all 3!

    One thing to note is that the Micra (and the old Mini) do not have the 2nd group solenoid, meaning they vent the group and destabilize the puck when you pre-brew. So the Mini R is a big step up for light roasts where pre-brew is beneficial. Or you need to plumb in the Micra and switch to preinfusion rather than pre-brew.

    Although Brew by weight is a nice feature, the requirement of Acacia LM scale is a big drawback of this feature. It scale is completely overpriced!

    A great review as always, I really like the way you approach the practical side of getting a good coffee in the sometimes chaotic morning home environment. A key question for you though if you had to pick one machine to live on your counter top for the next five years would it be this one or the Ascaso Baby T and why, what would swing your decision.

    • @DaddyGotCoffee
      @DaddyGotCoffee  5 дней назад +2

      Great question, and a difficult one to answer. For pure home use, both are really fairly over powered and I may actually go with something smaller than either. There’s no question that the fit, finish and overall experience of the mini is better. But the Ascaso is also not without its advantages, more cup clearance, volumetrics, better on power and also very stable.
      I’m in a bit of unique situation as someone that reviews products out of their home that having the standard of the mini to test other equipment on/against is extremely helpful. If I wasn’t in that situation and was looking for a flat profile machine, I would probably look in the Micra/Duo Plus tier.

    At this price point and that of the micra I should not have to have an app to get full use of my machine. plus the length of their warranty for such expensive appliances is ridiculous. I guess they don't believe in their own quality. For those who don't know, in NA it is one year on the Micra and two on the Mini. Probably some of the lowest length warranties in the industry except the knock off equipment

    All the flaws you mentioned in the video is the exact experience I encountered with my mini R. The paint chipping, over flowed shots which the scale can’t stop due to either grind size or tamping that causes channeling, and the constant weak connectivity.
    What I don’t like about the machine is that the fact you are tie to control and adjust everything on the app. Unless you are happy with the adjustments you previously set, then there’s absolutely no need to use the app. However you are forced to use the app to do the back flush cleaning which is totally annoying.

    To me, “ultimate” is not an adjective to LM; rather, the word “durability” and “consistency” are best description.
    For the class of Double Boilers and 9 Bar flat pressure machines. There are some machines in more budget tag. But none of them can match the quality of LM Linea Mini.
    What makes Linea Mini apart is the material, the group head and how easy to service the machine. Under the hood, you can find the machine is super clean. All LM parts are easy to buy, and there are lots of LM technicians around the city.
    The only thing I dislike the Linea Mini is the manufacturer uses flathead screws-when you twist the screwdriver hard on these screws… you will easily get a scratch to the panels…

      In 1000% agreement - excepting one point: in this case I was using “ultimate” as an adjective to “review”, as opposed to LM 🤣.

      LM makes very good machine, but their target is not something like KVDW and Slayer. LM’s machines are pretty, and powerful.
      For instance, would I buy a Linea Mini over order E61 Double Boilers? Yes, absolutely. How about a GS3 MP and a Slayer? Well, I’d puzzle a bit. If a choice between Linea Mini and a KVDW Speedster, then I’d go for a Speedster.

      I am fairly certain the Baby T operates this way, as well as the GS3 and OG Mini.

      It's more common with commercial-based machines. You might be familiar with more domestic style machines like the Silvia pro, which "prewets" by simply delaying the start of the pump after the shot starts

      Okay! I had no idea! That's interesting.

    • @Foolsauce
      @Foolsauce 5 дней назад

      Interesting. Yeah I think I just assumed the pump was just starting and stopping, but I think I might be getting confused. So the solenoid closes after pre infusion, but does then it doesn't open the 3 way valve to release the pressure into the drip tray, does it?

    • @tatemazer
      @tatemazer 5 дней назад

      @@Foolsauce you do see the pump delaying the start like you mention on some other machines when they're plumbed in, like synessos and some other commercial machines.
      The concern you're mentioning about the pressure going back to the drip tray is exactly the problem the extra solenoid valve is there to solve. It stays closed to keep that water depressurizing during the preinfusion.

    Fantastic review. I’ve had my Mini R for about a month now and I’ve never once had an issue with the app. It’s been rock solid. But outside of that, everything you said tracks with my experience. I would also say if you get black, the walnut accents are a must. That combo looks amazing.

      Thank you!! Yeah I have had a lot of issues with the app for whatever reason. Even if all the settings were accessible by Bluetooth that would make a huge difference. It was really tricky in a remote pop up setting when I couldn’t change preinfusion or steam settings!

      Decent is high on my list as well. A machine like the Mini is really nice for wonderfully brainless morning shots and a slick user experience. A Decent for playtime when the house is quiet would be a killer companion machine 👀

    • @UloPe
      @UloPe 5 дней назад +1

      @DaddyGotCoffee I was a bit concerned about that before I got mine but it turns out that the decent can be an excellent “brain want coffee now” machine as well. Just choose either a flat profile or something like the “adaptive” and then it’s basically a set and forget experience.
      Also I even do about 50% of my pour overs with it nowadays using Scott Rao’s Fliter3 “basket”.

    It’s not the ultimate Mini R review i am yet to see a review of the new Mini R that mentions how much metal they replaced with plastic on the inside of the machine. The whole base structure of the Mini R is PLASTIC (see at 4:15) instead of metal like in the old Mini which was all metal structurally. I’m not talking about the painted black steel bottom, i’m talking about the main structural support skeleton on which all internals sit, the front plate is mounted to it, you’re paying a lot more for a lot less premium material. ALSO, the steam wand is some cheap made in Italy doublewall steam wand and NOT the $700 performance steam wand. Lots of important information missing in this review. Brass plastic portafilter on top of it, this is where all reasons end and you must realize this is cash grab machine that milks the legacy of the name and reputation of the old and true Linea Mini.

    • @DaddyGotCoffee
      @DaddyGotCoffee  5 дней назад +1

      Thanks for dropping this. Definitely some changes here that seem to be cost related for LM. I covered the ones that were important to me (portafilter, thinner gauge panels, paint, also would love to see increased investment in the app). I did notice the plastic supports behind the backsplash, those aren’t the hugest deal for me as everything is still very rigid when everything is bolted together. The steam wand I did not realize was substantially different aside from the tip. I think it’s important to note that there are several substantive improvements as well when compared to the OG mini, not to downplay any of what you have mentioned.
      If you are aware of anything else please feel free to drop. Thanks again!
