Always great to see you out sir. I quit for 18 years when life just got in the way. When my wife past away about 3 years ago I had to get out of this house. It was going to be a boat, RV or motorcycle. As you know it was motorcycles. I bought 3 in 4 months and am so glad I picked "Black Betty" my 2020 Electra Glide. It has save me I do think. Be well sir, I appreciate you.

I have hit many speedbumps in 45 years of riding and over 1 million miles that made me stop and hesitate. For some unknown reason, I just kept doing it as the rewards outweighed the risks. Either way, you got back into it and are enjoying the sport. Stay the course Ty! Eric

Had my first street accident at the end of January myself and just on my way to the ER I started questioning if I should quit riding. Problem is I grew up riding dirt and then street all my life and it's my passion to just ride since it's a peace of mind for me. Got the bike fixed and still riding but it was definitely mentally tough my first ride back on it 🤘

Ty, I live in India and I ride a 1972 Royal Enfield Bullet with a G2 engine. It's an addictive bike and if I can't ride then I feel down and like something is missing from my life.
But here are the few things that stopped me riding my Bullet...
    1. The Indian monsoon. Imagine a continuous rain for about two months. Having to clean the spokes each time I come back home, is not worth the trouble.
    2. Cold winters like you said.
    3. Once I tried adjusting the tappets myself and made a mess. It took a couple of months to get it fixed.
    4. A leaking oil pipe which I haven't been able to replace for a few months.
    5. Once I got Dengue fever and couldn't ride for a month.
    6. And the lockdowns, about which I don't want to rant about.
Other than that, I hope I'll be ride till my last day.
Keep riding Ty, it's what makes your channel different from the rest!!! If you can find a Bullet, let me know your impression.👍🙏

I can't imagine a day when I don't ride. However, thank God, I have not had a wreck on the streets, plenty as a kid racing in dirt, but not on the streets. I still cannot imagine it ever stopping me from getting back in the saddle, if I was physically able to do so. I got hurt pretty badly a few times in the dirt, and as soon as I could, was back at it. I've been thrown from horses and got hurt but, as soon as I was able, got back on the same horse. We should never let fear control us. But we should also not let anyone else make us feel pressured to get back on the seat. Some people don't like riding alone, but over 90% of my riding is by myself, and I am fine with that. It gives me time to truly relax, go where I want, stop when I want, eat when/where I want, and not have to think what someone else may want to do. Riding in groups is great sometimes, but I wouldn't want to do it all the time. My favorite rides are when my sons ride with me on their bikes.

These are all valid reasons to consider whether or not you continue to ride. In my opinion, motorcycle’s are not inherently dangerous. I’ve been riding 56 years and have seen a lot of different people do dangerous things while riding. For me, a small group ride, two to five riders is ok. However, I prefer to ride alone or perhaps with only one other rider. Great video! Thanks and ride safe!

I live in the mountains of Colorado, and I ride year-round no matter the weather. I stopped driving cars because I hate sitting in traffic, so my main mode of transportation is a KLR 650. It is dirt cheap and reliable. I don't ever plan on having a family to go home to, so I'll ride until the day I die. And the way I ride, it's unlikely I'll die riding. To me, life just wouldn't be as enjoyable without being able to live it on two wheels.

Many years ago I was involved in an accident that left me paralyzed for a month and when I could begin to walk the pain was unbearable. I quit riding for 20 years. When I turned 62, I got the bug again and had to learn to ride again. I started with a 500 cc Honda followed by numerous sport bikes (My favorite bike was my Ducati 696 Monster) . I now ride a 2022 Harley Davidson Nightster. This bikes put a smile on my face each time I ride it. Yes there are still idiots out there but as I get older, I decided that I may get killed in an accident however the risk is worth it. I now ride trips 3-4 hours or 250 miles before it is time to stop for the day. With the Nightster you have to stop every 115 miles to refill the gas tank. 😂

So in the beginning of my riding career I was young and moving way too fast…honestly (sadly) my focus wasn’t on safety and others around me while on a motorcycle…hadn’t gotten into the world of low speed maneuvers, safety, and practicing, I had small children and kept thinking about crashing or worse and leaving my wife with those challenges should something happen to me…so I stopped for some time although I missed it terribly…back now with my wife’s blessing and practicing weekly while safely enjoying my commute to work…great video by the way, and glad that you and your wife are doing better…take care and safe travels…

We don't need to hear it from them. We all keep riding for the same reason, we weigh the dangers with the rewards and make a decision and live with it. I’ve been fortunate, one minor accident in all the years I’ve been on two wheels. I can’t say what I’d do after a bad wreck. Would I quit? I can’t answer that. I did stop for while when my son was growing up, but that was selfish reasons only, I didn’t want to miss a minute of time with him!! Once he got older, and didn’t want to hang out with me as much, I went back to riding. It’s a very personal decisions, and I would never judge anyone for stopping, for whatever reason they make the decision. Great video my friend!! Patrick

I enjoy riding by myself. In fact, I prefer it. If my wife wants to ride with me, I gladly take her on a ride, and if others want to ride, I will... but still, the alone time is priceless to me. After my accident in 2018, my wife asked if I was still going to ride, and after a "HELL YES!" she said OK and then told me if I was going to continue riding, I had to wear gear all the time, and she didn't care what the cost was, she'd buy it for me. She also told me I couldn't ride HER bike for a while. Luckily I had my other bikes at the time, so I rode those while my Vaquero got fixed up.

Good subject. I chose to stop riding a few years ago when my late wife was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. I was the sole breadwinner and had the insurance. Just didn't want to risk getting hurt or worse. After she passed, my first long trip was up to St. Louis to Route 66 and westward to Santa Monica, CA. The meteor crater outside Winslow seemed like the loneliest place on the earth. The journey was life changing, for I met my current wife in Oceanside, CA. This is definitely a different kind of video but properly sobering. I'm 71 years old now and just starting to ride believe it or not. That might be against me along with my high being 6 ft 7 and 260 lb. I purchased a couple scooters they're still new and now a light BMW 310 for training and a large one on order. I waited to do this for a long time and I see it as a discipline for getting and staying in shape taking courses practicing skills constantly. I won't do this if I don't commit to that. Admittedly, it's a bit of rebellion for some broken parts of this life but the freedom of the feeling on two wheels isn't easily substituted so I hope to ride for at least 10 years. Thanks for this kind of video. We need to choose our battles in life and our rewards if possible.

This was a really good year to sell my Street Glide (top dollar) - so I did it - but not a good year to replace it (for the same reasons) so I’m spending more time with my other interests (guns, guitars, etc). I’m 66 pushing 67 quick and have owned and ridden motorcycles since 1974 - no telling how many hundreds of thousands of miles I’ve logged with only 2 accidents.. those were decades ago. But I am still ‘somewhat’ dealing with my accident from 1978 and probably always will. Right now, I am leaning towards finding a small used dual sport (300-400cc) just for riding in the back woods and around the county slow roads. Fall is coming and the wind is calling me - but no matter how much I miss it - it really isn’t the same as it used to be.

I was starting to get a bit iffy of riding since it kind of got boring and then I ended up crashing before something very important in my life. For the first time I was actually ready to quit bikes. I was pissed off that I was crashing before I even hit the ground because I knew it will mess me up and my other life plans.

I had a bad wreck in which I had multiple broken bones, torn ligaments/tendons & third degree burns (gas tank exploded). 6 months in hospital & told I wouldn’t live several times much less walk. 3 days out of hospital I was riding another bike at night in 20 degree weather hundreds of miles & could barely bend my knees (break down canes in the tool bag). That was over 40 years ago. Now arthritis in my legs will no longer allow me to support a big bike. Looking for a used Harley trike.

I'll try to make my story short if I can. I bought a 2021 Iron 883. Loved the custom color. Invested about 8500 bucks in modifications. Hammer performance 1250 conversion kit, Ohlins rear shocks, power vision tuner, LED lights all the way around, sundowner seat, new intake, forward controls. Basically threw my life savings into this bike. Started riding and I can't tell you how many close calls I've had with incompetent drivers in this short time. One girl even hit me in the rear tire while I was sitting still for a traffic light. On top of that I was out of work for about a month so I panicked and sold the bike for way less than I should have. It was a very bad impulsive decision getting rid of it. Complete ignorance on my part. But when I think of how bad the drivers out there are and the weather here is only good riding weather a few months out of the year. Sometimes this entire situation happened for a reason. I lost thousands on this bike and am feeling big time sellers remorse. I just keep going back and forth in my mind if I should get another one. I feel like I had my one and only opportunity to have a bike exactly the way I wanted it and totally blew it so I don't deserve another one. Stuck like a rock in a hard place. Some positive feedback would be helpful. I really do enjoy riding. Just trying to figure out if it's all worth it in my current situation. Thanks for the great video 👍

    • @TyFromTennessee
      @TyFromTennessee  2 года назад

Hey Sean! That sounds like a sweet bike. I'm sorry to hear you're feeling a bit convicted about your decision. You did what you thought was right and that was probably the best thing to do. After my accident, I see so many drivers on the phones with no clue about what is going on around them so it is most certainly dangerous sometimes. The good thing is that if you decide to ride again you can always buy another motorcycle. Hang in there man and take your time making whatever decision works for you. I appreciate your comment. Thanks for your time.

@@TyFromTennessee Thanks for the nice message. I appreciate you reaching out. I actually came across a 2011 Yamaha Stryker that a guy is selling. His Mom has stage 4 cancer and needs the money. It has 7k on it and except for a few little scuffs on the front fender it's a beautiful bike. It has an aftermarket exhaust on and sounds awesome. I know where he bought it from so I called them and told them what he wanted for it and they said it's worth every penny to go for it. He actually bought the bike from that same bike shop. He only put about 300 miles on it. I told him I would give him $4,500 for it and he accepted it so I'm going to transfer title tomorrow and then take it into the bike shop so they can service it in oil change. It's the blue Yamaha Stryker which looks absolutely incredible. This is a bike I'm going to hang on to and hopefully it'll take away my seller's remorse and I can enjoy it. The biggest one is a BMW GS 1150 Adventure, and while it's still a great motorcycle, I'm starting to find it a little on the heavy side. My other bikes are smaller and lighter. Nevertheless, I have often had this very same question - "Is it now time to quit riding bikes"? Time and time again I face this dilemma and haven't yet had the "balls" to pull the plug on it. Sure, it's dangerous, but I've lost many friends to illness and far more benign things in life, so what the hell, I think I'll just keep on riding!! In my opinion the wrong question is being asked. Why would I start riding motorcycles ?
If you're raising a family, are paying for a house, have little kids who depend on you, it is (IMHO) irresponsible to ride motorcycles due primarily to the inherent risk factors involved. In my case my wife and I had an agreement , which I adhered to:
    1) house is paid off
    2) insurance is paid up
    3) kids are raised
    4) I pay for (myself) the motorcycle(s)
    5) I purchase all PPE and take MSF class
That's when I started riding motorcycles. I'm not judging any one here; I personally feel that with the right PPE, courses and MSF training, good road strategy, good emergency and slow speed skills, a person should be able to ride well (crash free) for a life-time. But, we all know shit happens. I personally don't believe that motorcycles are dangerous; people are dangerous on motorcycles just like they are in their automobiles. What we can do with good road strategy , PPE , course work , practice , practice , practice , is to mitigate most of the inherent risk involved in riding motorcycles... not eliminate it entirely , but mitigate it considerably.
If I would lose technical skill or ability to safely ride motorcycles, I would quit; and sell my bikes. In the mean time, I keep practicing , building my skills , maintaining my bikes , and riding within my skill level and abilities. I'm not a hot-dog. So far, so good.
